Electroshock is still used, but it's given in short, less powerful bursts. They do not do the same kind of electroshock therap as they did in the 60s and 70s. Also there usually must be written informed consent.

a article in the local paper about an American who was working here, complained that his son was not given treatment "drugs" to control his HAHD, I don't think the doctors would endorse it, because it is though to be a dietary problem "The Es in chocolate or soft drinks etc"

My Grandmother was electroshocked repeatedly. She died of Alzheimer's.  I think the two might be related. And I think she was electroshocked because she was very sensitive to her environment and expressed it, which was considered "crazy" at that time. Actually still.

well, they took blood from me after they locked me up as a juvi. not before that but after. vision quest, and abraxas were two place that took blood from me. And EVERY prison takes blood from EVERYBODY. Un less its in the middle of nowhere.

A good deal of mental illness is associated with complexes of belief and anger, or belief and obsession with the "correctness" of that belief. Normally beliefs have to do with protecting one's self or one's place or status. There is this fellow Cesar Milan AKA "the dog whisperer" who seems to be able to get to the root of sociopathic behavor in canines, and he can help them learn to do a shift toward calm and better adjusted. It is kind of amazing. People don't do that.

It's a difficult thing. Some of is definition. I was a good boy until i was force to go to school at which time i became a traitor and a criminal. (it was a kind of proclaimation by on status grade of authority higher or the teacher) Her prescription was for me to be imprisoned and run out of the country. At that time school became an institution of condemnation, and i became socially or mentally ill and condemned for it. It stuck with me, and i ever after considered authority to be "bent".

Some mental illnesses ARE illnesses, like when a person shampoos daily with lice shampoo cuz they believe they have lice but they don't. Yes there are too many people routed, and treatment is too drug based, but its' unrealistic to say there is no real such thing as mental illness.

I've got 20 years of my own research under my belt, and feel, the resarch scientists are the ones with the up close experience with serious cases, then they disseminate their insights to clinical psychologists who have the less severe cases. I think re: "lust in her eyes" you're being really immature. Are Szasz and Laing research scientists or clinical psychologists?

Also, the clinical psychologists get more of the general population who just need to talk. While a serious reseaercher, like Sass, is around people with a specific illness, such as schizophrenia, constantly, and so their experience is different. Dr. Breeding is dealing with the general populace who get "routed" by amateurs as seriously mentally ill and drugged as if they were.

Hi Paula, Thanks for bringing my attention to this guy. He actually knows something. I found his youtube video on hallucinations & schizophrenia. I like Louis Sass book cuz he goes into the linguistics of language poetry and I am a language poet. Wolinsky "Trances People Live" is also a great resource with some linguistic techniques.

Louis Sass (not Sasz) is a good one to read --his book "Madness and Modernism" in which he points out they do long term studies on patients who are drugged & have NO test group of individuals who are observed long term who are NOT medicated. Bottom line, they can't therefor know what part is the effect of the drug & what part is the effect of the "illness"
