He was born with a cleft lip and palate. It's quite common.

Chance of cleft lip and/or palate parent having a child with cleft lip and/or palate: 1 in 16

Folate deficiency and alcohol or tobacco use while a woman is pregnant increase incidence of cleft lip and/or palate. The recommended dietary allowances of folate for women who are pregnant or who may become pregnant is 600 micrograms.

Aleksander's cleft was an isolated incident in our family. His younger brother was born peacefully at home three years later without incident or defect.

Having parented a cleft-affected child these last 7 years, I am quite aware of its causes, results, and requirements.

I do not accuse or blame you. I tried to provide useful information for people who are interested in cleft lip and palate and want to do everything possible to prevent it in their own children. I was born with a cleft palate and lip myself.

Foods rich in folate include black-eyed peas, lentils, okra, kidney beans, great northern beans, broccoli, iceberg lettuce, beets, lima beans, sunflower seeds, spinach, brussels sprouts, corn, asparagus, baked beans, green peas, baked potato, cabbage, avocados, peanuts, romaine lettuce, tomato juice, orange juice, strawberries, oranges, eggs, bananas.

He was born with a cleft lip and palate. The fourth most common birth defect. He has since had it repaired.

He was beautiful even still. I didn't like how the ending just cut off. Despite that! It was a BEAUTIFUL video, and i loved that you had a professional photographer (or at least someone who knows their way around a camera) in there with you. Yes, he was born with a cleft lip and palate. He has had five surgeries to date, but is doing well. He's now 6 years old!
