  • Wow that minimoog is soo cool!

  • in every video of the minimoog the backgruond is the same! thats misterious

  • Hi people, i own a creamware MINIMAX ASB (which is a copy of a minimoog). I'm really into synthesis now, but i'm wondering how you make the 3rd oscillator an LFO? I'm pretty sure it's the exact thing on the minimax asb as on a minimoog (considering the different knobs even have the same names! i'd be really happy if someone could help me out

  • @itstherubberduck On the minimoog there is a switch to make the 3rd oscillator an LFO. Just activate it and the frequency range of the oscillator drops.

  • can u store ur sound in it or is it a headache 4 each show?

  • @loveislikehydrogen Thank you! I think your YouTube name is fantastic!

  • @loveislikehydrogen "Minimoog Exclusively" by me!

  • exellent!!

  • Hmmm....I'm not complaining and I think it's good that you haven't changed the volume levels to make everything level(makes a better demo), but I was thinking for a live scenario if I wanted everything of equal levels say when I change my waves, with low harmonics (triangle) to something rich in harmonics (sawtooth), would throwing a compressor like stomp-box work? So that there was no volume drop between the two" settings" or is that just too dynamic?

  • @Spaghettaboutit I think using a compressor would work. It's one of the sacrifices you have to make for using analog live! Volume is another aspect of synthesis, and if you practice the sounds you're going to use live beforehand, you get a sense of what you're going to need to do when you set up the patch live. That's how I do it! But I tend to be somewhat purist about analog stuff, and you probably don't need to go to that level of effort!

  • Badass video and a badass synth! But your Mini is out of tune a bit. About a half-step too sharp.

  • @fooloof badass synth? moog's are the best synths ever!

  • That shit at about 6:09 was DIRTY!!!!!!

especially when you pitched it down. damn.

  • Moogs sound and look ridiculous.

  • @bilbring :::sighs::: I know. If only they could sound like infinitely superior synths like the JP-8080.

  • i wish i had the money to buy an analogue system :(

  • 5 people are the partners of synth players! (how do i know? cos my wife's sat next to me listening to this and she's just said "what the hell is that row?")

  • @PhobiaGuy My music has typically inspired a slightly better response in women. ; )

  • @AutomaticGainsay All i ever get is "why do you keep hitting the same note over and over" (she has no idea that im getting the sound right, besides, she doesnt bother me so much if i'm making said 'row'!)

Forgot to say last time...cool vid!

  • lol.. I almost pee'd... Anyway.. I actually own one of these, After trying for 5 years to get my hands on one... I only spent $350.00 on it.. Seriously the greatest analog synth ever!

  • @TheSunnyhunnybunny If you have a good understanding of synthesis, it's quite easy to play! It just takes a little study and experimentation. Or, you could watch my videos, where I endeavor to show you what each knob is for, and what it sounds like. : )

  • Can you demo the sounds that Kieth Emerson gets in The Gnome from pictures at an exhibition?

  • @Kdragon32 .. I could.....;c)

  • im so gonna get me one of those!

  • Hi, Can you please demo the Trilogy settings used in From The Beginning by ELP? Thanks!

  • @KP11520 ... I could....;c)

  • Hmmm, is it necessary to hump the minimoog to achieve the sound you got from 2:45 - 3:10 ???

  • @dzlvs8 Yes.

  • @dzlvs8 LMAO! That comment killed me!

  • @dzlvs8 If Keith Emerson taught us something it's that moogs are naturally made for humping

  • 6:40 sounds like an ARP

  • That clacking noise of the A note you keep hitting around 3:08 is hitting downbeat perfectly!

  • 3:50-4:26 Epic

  • WERE I CAN BUY ????? MY BAND NEEDED OF THAT KEYBOARD !

  • 3:13 hahah crazy!

  • How much does one of these cost?

  • @SteveShivik there is a newer version called the mini moog voyager there about 2,500 and there about the same to me

  • @zackjp thanks a lot!

  • im so jealous

  • it seems to me that synths are moving backwards nowadays

  • @nokia3210fuck i hope they all come back to this sound if they have to move backwards

  • Does this work as a MIDI controller?

  • Why didn't they make the Voyager look and sound like the Model-D? Even though the Voyager OS comes the closest, without the ugly LCD and touchpad, it still ain't the Minimoog Model-D. I'd also like the to see the DX7 and D-50 reissued with their great sexy sleek looks, not just being reissued on ugly expansion boards... Arghhh...

  • t'ses an piciu

  • do some rush riffs on this, geddy used this!

  • sounds like you need to replace the key bushings

  • @frotz661 I absolutely do.

  • MY father had a minimoog which he sold when he moved to Canada before I was born, I was so mad at him for selling it when he told me haha.

  • hahaha man on the second minute you played the moog like you have to play the lady !!!! ,. after the whole vid , have to admid , in my opinion this instrument is realy a piece for you and your style , cause the jams wher realy great!!!

  • 5:55 awesome :-)

  • Where can i get one of those? do they still sell it??

  • @Fabiosouza420 No, they have stopped production on the MiniMoog sadly. *tear*

  • @ChickenVendetta but they make a newer version (still analog) with MIDI

  • @Fabiosouza420 ebay, they're like 3000 dollars...

  • in some part it sounded like kraftwerk as in autobahn.....

  • the clapping is a little bit annoying...but besides that it´s just outstanding!

  • I miss my moog..watching this helps me to remember. Thank you very much AutoGuy!

  • @Snotra I am glad to help! Thanks for watching!

  • i want 1 :D

  • @Automatic Gainsay - Not complaining, only pointing out its capacity and basic application. In the 70's my brother used a Korg Polyensamble keyboard for chording along with the Moog, it was a grand sound! I would spend hours on end exploring new sounds of infinite timbers and tonal variations. Almost needed to be a scientist to know how to recall and dial in a desired sound. I still own the minimoog it needs repair, the overload light comes on and it blows fuses.

  • One could not play chords on this thing!

  • @Snotra Well, if you mean by pressing different notes with your fingers, that's true. However, you can tune the oscillators to play chords. In general, though... why do you need to play chords? You don't hear people complaining about being able to play chords on other monophonic instruments. : )

  • @AutomaticGainsay I kind of agree with both of you, I would rarely use chords on my synth if it was polyphonic, but duophony would be handy sometimes to play a bass and lead line at the same time. Great video though! Your other video showing what you can do with the Minimoog is very good also :)

  • @AutomaticGainsay you could set each oscillator to be a couple notes apart, and then you have a little autochord thing sorta.

  • @Cds56 Yes, it's a great thing you can do. However, it'd be nice if there was a way to affect the chord quality, but it's still okay.

  • is this the same device that Rick Wakeman used in 'Journey to centre of the earth' and 'Knights of the round table'?

  • Are Friends Electric?

  • Yup same thing used by the Tubewayarmy/Gary Numan

  • @8462995 it also sounds like the beginning of the credits The 1984 The Terminator movie!!!!!

  • Thanks for all the videos Marc. Great info and you have a great way of presenting it.

Can i ask if you have time what you think of the little phatty? From watching a few of your vids i reckon you might feel like it is a bit of move away from what pure Moog should be, but have you had a good listen to the sound at all?

Just wondering as the phatty will be my first entry into analog synth world! Couldn't afford a Mini just yet

    Cheers!

  • It's not really for me, as I'm a knob-per-function guy. However, I've heard nothing but good things about the LP from people whose opinions I trust. I think it'll be a good move!

  • I love Minimoog sounds, i got a casio wk-1200 who can almost make the sames sounds...

But i'm wondering what's the model of your camera! picture and fluidity ares amazing! Can you tell me please?

  • hey man! ur jokin´giving us a comment ur wk-1200 makes almost the same sound like MINI? :-DDDD it´s neither the league nor sport!! WK is toy, MINI extremely proffesional and one of the most extremely amazingly best synthesizer in the human epoche, man!

  • 10 point! :-D

  • 2:43 - 3:23

    Wtf?!

  • He's a man!

  • Oops this mini could use some new bushings I guess. Nice instrument though!

  • ::blushes:: You're absolutely right!

  • Merci beaucoup Marc pour cette autre magnifique vidéo!

    francolamuerte Québec-Canada

  • Thank you so much! Ha ha, amazingly, you've left a comment in French that I can read! : )

  • This machine sounds like a demo made by a Commodore 64! :-)

  • In my opinion you are making the best vintage synth demos on youtube! And they are very entertaining!

I only recently got me a midimoog and this video was really eye opening! Thanks!!!

  • Thank you, and thanks for watching!

  • AG where are u getting, all these vintage toys from?. the euroguys brought up all great amero stuff.ya know way back in the day when america, made "Real Synthesizers".

  • I got most of them by selling most of them to buy others on eBay. : )

  • @4:40 is the asterix and obelix sound !

  • Very nice! You can just listen to the sound of this thing without really playing any music (altough, it helps of course). But I did miss some phat, low octave bass sounds in this video.

  • Thanks!

Yes, as the Minimoog is so known for its bass, I wanted to show what other things it was capable of doing well! : )

  • Wow! Super demo of the minimoog's capabilities

  • right around 00:55 that tune sounded awesome! was that an original?

  • All of the music in my demos is original. In that particular case, it was not only original, but being written in realtime.

    Thanks!

  • Nice!

  • . . . in the words of Bryan F' Something I've wanted but was never mine....

  • Love those filters man people just think those VSTs are better. More features yea but the raw sound is not even close. thanks

  • Great video! You show how versatile the minimoog really can sound! Contrary to what some people seem to think!

  • Yes, I think a lot of people aren't aware of the shocking variety of sound the Minimoog can produce.

  • Is this your response to the people who beg you to just play your synths and don't really appreciate your informative commentary?

  • Ha ha, I wondered if people would think that! Actually, I really enjoyed making a "sound demonstration" section for the ARP 2600 and thought that the Minimoog deserved at least that much! Don't worry, I'm not going to become a noodler... I just wanted people to hear some of the things the Minimoog does when you just play it. : )

  • Inspirational!! I must admit I'm stuck in a bit of a rut on knob twiddling on my Mini, I always go straight for the big bass sound which is a bit lazy.......thanks for posting...Do you own an Arp Odyssey??

  • I had an ARP Avatar (which I controlled via CV instead of a guitar) at one point. I thought it was a great synth, but it wasn't quite what I was after sound-wise.

  • Great sounds. Some parts remind me of Boards of Canada.

  • Solid demo

  • Thanks!

  • Hi Marc!

A new synth vid from you. This is great!

And the Minimoog. This is fantastic!

    Very nice sounds.

    greetings

    retro

  • Nice demo, I enjoyed that - thanx!

  • Thank you for watching!

  • Awesome! This is the one I'm going to own one day.

  • Great Demo. Well done. Classic synth, Great thick warm bases, a sound and, character of it's own. I wonder, what the model B and C sounded like too. Thanks for posting. LOL .

  • Sick!

  • There is just something magical about the sounds of the MiniMoog that no synth before or after has managed to capture. They are so Fat, creamy and Organic.

  • very nice Sounds!

  • This is the perfect music to have gladiator fights by in 0070 A.D. If the Middle Ages/sword and sorcery period were the 1980s, then the Roman/Mythology times were the 60s and 70s.

  • Hey, at 05:42 when you turn the cutoff down slowly, I notice it seems to sweep through twice, why is that?

  • It's because the filter is being modulated by an oscillator at that point, which results in a different sort of output.

  • That part was so cool, it almost sounded like a formant filter.

Can you tell me where you found all these synths? My studio tech lecturer told me he got an MS-20 from a clueless guy for just 50 pounds (that's like 40$ :D).

  • It's the magic of eBay. MOST of the synths I've owned were purchased there (at a time when they were cheaper than they are now!).

  • The first one reminds me of Shine On You Crazy Diamond or Wish You Were here.

  • @metabog I'm pretty sure that Pink Floyd used ARPs on that album, but they may have also used a Mini, especially for the lead sound on Have A Cigar.
