  • Hiya does your mum have diabetes? Sometimes there can be miss diagnosis with "hughes" syndrome sticky blood as it's known and polycephemia. I might be grasping at straws,,, I hope You & Mum are doing well :)

  • phlebotomy 2 t 3 x/week is advised.. it is removal of blood since ur bone marrow is overgrowth and causes too much production of RBC..

  • Pinche emo, te haces flebotomias diarias verdad

  • is your mom stressed out all the time/ or an alcoholic?

  • hi .. My doctor thinks I have polycythemia because my hematocrit was 60, I ask because you mentioned the stress, this year I have been very stressed and panic attacks, has something to do with that polycythemia? Pardon my English

  • @joeltrinidad1 You have got to get your stress and panic under control as soon as possible. From what I have observed it both initiates and exacerbates this illness. Drink chamomile and hibiscus teas. Exercise. Learn to Relax.

  • I'm just letting you know that, Hemp oil is rumored to cure all sorts of ailments. So if she feels tired and drowsy, I would personally recommend smoking Marijuana. It really does help easy most pains.

  • Hi Sam- I am a 24yr old female who was diagnosed with PV this past spring. I'm currently just being treated with low dose aspirin. The leukemia/lymphoma society has good info on PV. It's a JAK2 mutation & in the next 5yrs my hematologist says there should be a pill that controls the JAK2. Feel free to email if you have more questions, etc! Stay positive!

  • Hi Sam. I have PV. I was diagnosed about 4 years ago and am on chemo-drugs for it. I guess you are worried about your mum having it. At the worst it can lead to leukemia but this is so rare, so you dont have to worry. This condition is treatable ! Most folk who have PV live a natural life span.

  • I have to agree with Englebert. I have a more advanced myeloproliferative disorder called myelofibrosis. Your mother should be okay if she monitors her blood levels, keeps her hemoglobin and hematocrit down to around 42 and 14 and takes good care of herself. You may want to study about JAK2 inhibitors. JAK2 is the mutation responsible for most cases of PV. There are some clinical trials starting around the end of the year for people with PV. She'll be fine, just keep your chin up.

  • Sam--I sent you an email. =)
