It is not about how it compares to other cars, especially GT cars: this is a race car to start with, so there is no radio or airco in it and it weighs only 450kg, with about just as many horsepower. So what GT car could compare? And for the rotary engine is unique, all car makers tried it in the 60's when the technology came out, but who can make one, run one on 24-hour races, win Le Mans and even sell road cars with such an engine? Don't bother, Mazda is the only ONE.

yea I found some official stats on the furai. It goes 0-60 in 3.2 seconds, quarter mile in 11.8 seconds and top speed was a range nothing exact. Top speed between 185-190 mph partly due to a short gear ratio of 430. The rest are all truth! and been tested.

I'm sure they could repurpose it for street use and make it street legal, but looking at Mazda's entire car catalog, it just doesn't make sense financially.

engine displacement is 3x654ccm=1962ccm but if you want to compare with 4 stroke engine, it is twice, so 3924ccm. And 450HP is rather conservative tuning, that engine can push more than 450RWHP-more than 500HP on engine, of course naturally aspirated.

What racing drivers love with rotary engines is that they never have to worry about their reliability, they can just hit the gas pedal as much as they want, as long as they want, as they do when they win an endurance race in an RX-8 (Daytona this year).

Agreed. The only engine I favor over a rotary is a Formula 1 engine. Nothing beats the sound of those 2.4-litre V8's revving up to 19,000 but rotaries come close. :)
