@ThreeKProduction Because monitors (flat panel displays) and keyboards and mice are an awful and very uninspiring way of interacting with computers. Here you can already imagine the ways in which it (the computer) can enter the world as an object to interact with. One which allows for mutl-user interaction and collective experience. A much more intuitive and FUN way of interacting with a computer....
It would be good for interactive globe displays in a Museum. It could show how the continents formed, or how ice melt may effect the coastline, or how satellites move across the earth, or how Rome conquered and retreated. I really don't think this is meant for home use. I don't know why they are showing photos on it, how dumb.
Finally, someone understands that what I really hate about computing is sitting in a comfortable chair using a keyboard and mouse. Thank god someone has the balls to make me stand up and use my hands on a sphere to look at pictures of my vacation. These guys are brilliant.
I agree. Ive always felt looking at flat pictures on a flat surface detracted from the experience; distorting them onto a curved surface provides a much richer experience. Thanks microsoft for providing it!
agreed but the option to use your hands would be nice if your one of the poeople who can never find there pointer like me and i just lost it typing this :P
i can do that with my balls

Its cool but I see this only being used for geography purposes like in classrooms to teach kids about the planets and Earth.

How does the camera tell if you're touching the top or bottom of the sphere, since it's a two dimensional view of a three dimensional object.
