  • I was just improvising to that R&B rhythm section, and it was awesome. I've never really played with a backing (band setting). I think my ego just got a boost today.

  • Oh Youtube, where were you 15 years ago when I was aspiring to be a guitar hero?

  • Too cool!! Thank"s...

  • anyone know what tuning he is in???

  • @mecasper1134 standard - it's just a I IV V minor blues progression in A. using the top 3 strings of an Am chord at the 5th fret and sliding them up to Bm and back again before going to the IV chord which is Dm7.

  • Hey just a question to payers out there trying to learn. what is the most common thing that you think is missing when you try to learn from a video or a book?

  • @Mattcallaway86 Well, it's something more I've never seen, I can play already and just come to Youtube for the odd tip, just getting into blues actually. To answer your question, tutorials always show the fingering up close as if you were looking straight at the neck. I've always wondered if it would be easier for people to see it from a players POV instead of straight on. To me when I actually look at the neck when I'm playing, it looks way different that someone else playing, a new perspective

  • It just takes a little practice everyday. This lesson is not for beginners.

  • great lesson but what chords were you playing and what was that bar across strings 123 called?

  • @steveoh2395 Triad.

  • Classy, sooo laid back :)

    thanks for posting, peace out.

  • man every time i watch a guitar lesson video on youtube i simultaneously feel inspired and pathetic...i can play guitar and enjoy it, but i comparatively suck. oh well.

  • @MaladaptiveCatalyst With practice comes perfection.

  • @MaladaptiveCatalyst That's how I feel when I see someone shredding

  • @MaladaptiveCatalyst Dude, get a grip. This guy is an instructor at Berklee School of Music. Most flat out rock stars wouldn't have a clue what he was talking about if he cut loose. He's on the level of a studio guitarist, who can play anything, any style from standard notation at the drop of a hat.

  • @MaladaptiveCatalyst never give up...you will get there.

  • @MaladaptiveCatalyst Just push it and practice....it gets easier.

  • @MaladaptiveCatalyst I feel you man, i feel you, you're not alone.

  • @MaladaptiveCatalyst every good guitarist use to suck. just like every adult used to be a kid

  • @MaladaptiveCatalyst

That's exactly how I used to feel when I was 7 and my sister was 10 and she would ride her bike (and I hadn't learned yet). THEN, I watched, and watched, and tried...OVER AND OVER AGAIN, and I learned. Life is all about doing and not feeling defeated when it doesn't come easily. If you write your name many times with your left hand (assuming you're right-handed), it will look very legible after a thousand times. Guitar is exactly the same. Practice becomes skill.

  • @MaladaptiveCatalyst I'm with ya there. Been playin' for 20 years, and still no better than most guys who have been playing for 2 or 3.

  • @MaladaptiveCatalyst i hear you

  • Can you tell what type of Strat you are playing. Thanks

  • Couldn't help but sing the song along with them bad licks. Man, that's good stuff.

  • wow ... i want to learn to play .....this is the first vid i ran across .....I am inspired

There are too many videos on soloing & how to become the "guitarhero" with the latest licks, but this video inspired me a lot, because it nourishes my need on how i can support my fellow musicians and vibrate a smooth groove into the space around me...great!

guitarists...leave your ego's at home and bring your hearts into play!

  • it has helped undrstnd a lot, thnx mat

  • Great lesson!! very clear and great flow!

  • this is in standard correct? and is that just the clean channel on the fender deluxe your playin through, or do you have a blues driver or something like that?

  • Thank you very much, man!

  • cool

  • im doing this on my acoustic and it hurts.

  • @patwrotethis dont do it.

  • @patwrotethis lol change your strings, put on a thiner one

  • @patwrotethis Rest a little while then : ) Tendonitis is not fun.

  • @patwrotethis it hurts initially , the correct way to learn is preferably . learn on acoustic for 2-3 years . so you can get clean notes and nice clean hand moment . after that you move to electric and it seems nothing as compared to acoustic bends and everything . :)

  • @patwrotethis If you don't stop doing it, it will stop hurting (trust me)

  • @patwrotethis

My Teacher always said : If it hurts you do it right ;)

  • nice dude tks

  • That was really dope, Thanks.

  • sounds so nice : )

  • i like it man!

  • cool!

  • Nice lesson!

  • worth a while to get it down. thanks!

  • I just came across this guy and he is a great guitar teacher. Every word he speaks is relative to what he is showing the viewer. He doesn't waste vocabulary un-needed trying to impress anyone with what they don't need to know. He gets right to the point at hand, and he is a great guitar player. I just subscribed to him, and look forward on seeing other videos of his. Please encourage these teachers folks. They are using their time and attention to freely help you and your children learn.

  • thank you. very simple and VERY cool.

  • are u playing 2 9th chords at the end? or is that a 9th and then a 7#9

  • Thats cool.

  • that was fun! well explained prof! you have your groove on.

  • You rock!

  • I love the guitar !!!

  • I'm a guitar newb and I need help on what Guitar should I look for? Anyone recommend any good brands, what are the prices, and I will reward thy by a sub. Thank You. Can't wait to start playing :-)

  • @juicym19

What's your price range? First, I'd say acoustic to keep it around and so that you'll be able to just grab and play all the time without having to plug in.

  • @juicym19 I would recommend you to buy an american stratocaster by fender, its about 1000 dollars but this is a guitar you can play for the rest of your life! If you dont got that kind of money yet I would recommend you to buy a squire starters packet ( guitar + amp) Thats about 300 dollars I guess, play that for a year or so and see if you still like guitar, then start saving for a good guitar, amp and some effects :)

  • @juicym19 maybe a epiphone

  • @juicym19 epiphone les paul junior, great beginner guitar for like £100-ish. can't go wrong.

  • @juicym19 i would say if you think youre in it for the long run you might as well go out and buy a good used guitar. search around for used fender stratocaster deluxes i bought one for half price ($900) and its in perfect shape, theres plenty more like it on the internet too. its a great guitar that will last forever. but if you dont know how much you like playing guitar and youre not really really into it try something cheaper like a used mexican strat before you go and buy something expensive

  • @juicym19 A good starter guitar is a Squier Stratocaster or Telecaster. Both are great guitars for the price (<$200) and both are decently well made. I have performed on stage with nothing but my Squier Strat without even having a backup with me, and I've not been worried at all

  • @juicym19 what kind of guitar? Acoustic or Elec? Cuz on elec the amp is a large part.

  • @juicym19 I would recommend buying a Squire guitar for just starting out. I'm pretty sure I got mine with amp and accessories for about 350. Just type in strat pack into google or ask about it at your local music store. Its a good starting guitar because the action is low and its easy on your fingers. Have Fun!

  • @LandonPeotMusic1 Great gear and great advice for a beginner guitarist

  • @juicym19 it all depends on what style youre playing. for example, for blues, youd probably want either a fender, which is what hes using in the video, or a nice gibson. for rock or metal, ibanez, jackson and schecter are all nice choices. for amps, youll probably want a line 6, it has a nice range of tones and they are very afoordable

  • LRPM I need a real guitar :(

GREat lessons by the way ^^

  • very cool. Thanks!

  • Nice and simple to learn and makes me sound like I can play. Thanks!

  • you have the TRUE blues feel man !!

    Cheers !

  • Thanks, i'm an intermediate player, just hit a wall and getting bored, and this helps a lot.

  • lovely

The instrument is a gift from ourselves, to ourselves. I communicates our feelings; it captures music from thin air; it is my way of justifying life itself.:) On to my lesson...

  • @jalepenyo lookslike a fender but dont hold me to that!

  • @jalepenyo Well I can see a fender deluxe in the back. Thats what I think hes using. Really clean nice tube amp

  • if only B.B.King played as well as you do.gj

  • That's a beautiful Strat.

  • loving the stare at the end

  • in the major scale, there are 7 notes, the root being the one, and if you continue through the major scale and count youll find your 2 3 4 5 6 and 7, in a the 1 is a, the 4 is d, and 5 is e, hope that clarifies this a little bit

  • Nice lesson and good playing. I've watched some of your videos and I like them all.

    Keep up the good work.

  • Great lesson, thanks for posting.

  • What are the chords that are in that brake on 3:48?

  • wath guitar is this?

  • Thanks for sharing your knowledge : )

  • Great lesson, thank you.

  • Great lesson. Love your playing as well.

  • Nice lesson

  • I'm not into music theory at all. So what do you mean by the designations... four chord, five chord.. etc?

  • @NickeyWhitfield how do you play anything?

Blues is I IV V progression, some things you have to know to be able to get around the fret board in key. Cannot possibly explain it in a YT window.

  • @NickeyWhitfield You should know enough theory to play the major scale. Most blues and rock tunes use the 1,4,5 chord progression which are the 1st 4th and fifth notes of the major scale of a certain key such as in the key of G. G is 1, C is 4, and D is 5

  • @NickeyWhitfield four chord means fourth chord in Am scale so it's Dm. Fifth - E7 dominant.

  • @NickeyWhitfield

The 4 chord(which is IV by common notation) is the fourth chord in any given key,

    in C major it would be the F chord(1st C, 2nd Dm, 3rd Em, 4th F),

in G minor the Cm chord, etc

In A minor, the iv (4 chord) would be D minor and the v (5 chord) E minor, (well, in classical music the common practice would be to sharpen the G, effectively making the V a E major instead, but lets not get into that)

  • @NickeyWhitfield Basically, this is a 1-4-5 progression. He is playing in A, so his one chord is A. That being said, the 4 chord is just four steps up from A (counting

A). Therefore D is the 4 chord. Move up one more step, and our fiftth chord is E. 1-4-5 in the key of A is equal to A-D-E.

  • @NickeyWhitfield The one, four, and five are the first, fourth, and fifth note of the A major scale. Think Do-Re-Me-Fa-So. The fifth should be a 7th chord. In this case we have A-D-E7 to make the I-IV-V. I hope that helps.

  • what key is that?

  • nice

  • COOL!!!!!

  • whats the tuition to the online berekly school?

  • if i get a buzzing-rattle when i play on the 1st fret, do i raise or lower my action?

  • good lesson, simple, yet very useful

  • how is your EQ set up?

  • i luv the blues im still learning on acoustic guitar
