  • I grew up with this song. This is y dad ultimate favorite band and owns all songs.

  • Jerry sounds like god to me.

  • god this is gorgeous...WTF was i doing listening to Fleetwood mac back then .

  • jfyi..Keith Olsen produced "Terrapin Station", and the 1975 Fleetwood Mac "penquin" album as well :)

  • i was able to figure out the end and beginning...TERRAPIN

  • Thus the soldier lost again. The wider import of this is that the soldier and sailor are 2 types of people in life and the sailor follwed his heart and won at love whereas the soldier was too careful and lost- sometimes it is better to act and risk defeat rather than overthink a situation and hold back (men, go after that "impossible to get" girl- you never know)

  • Thanks so much for explaining the lyrics. For some reason I never noticed the story in it,

  • I never did drugs but I can tell you as a physician, I love the mellow nature of this song, the melody, and the story which is a beautiful one- it reveals that the sailor followed his heart and faced the lions to retrieve the fan and thereby won the lady whereas the soldier who overthought everything and avoided disaster could not pull himself to just do the bold and even reckless thing to get the girl

  • are you sure about the first part? ;]

  • at 2:37 I envision the turtles in the picture dancing

  • did many nights of just drugs and spacin to this tune and now that I am finally clean its like a flashback and I enjoy it even more!

  • so beautiful. tears, man.

  • its in the name.

  • I've never listened to these guys before. I have heard about them all my life, I even bought a 2 disc album for a girlfriend once. Man, this band is amazing. R.I.P. J.G. I think will venture on to other melodies by them. Any suggestions of albums?

  • the album 'go to heaven' is a good start because it's a damn good rock album and because I saw them on that tour when they played London .

however true deadheads would argue that 'reckoning' and 'blues for allah' are way up there !!!

  • thanks

  • TERRAPIN STATION! While the album plays so low, strange noises from the band will show. Till things you've never heard will seem familiar!

  • My personal favorite is Scarlet Begonias, but I also like: Box of Rain, Casey Jones, Sugar Magnolia, Shakedown Street, Tennessee Jed, Uncle John's Band, Dark Star, Ripple, Touch of Grey, St. Stephen, and many more great dead jams!!!!

  • but Terrapin Station. . . . Wow what a great piece of music, the guys were true geniuses

  • i like also "Montains of the moon", st stephen, etc

  • thanks

  • thanks for this!

  • Thanks for posting. I liked it so much I bought the album (vinyl of course!)

  • Thank you!

  • here beside him stands, a man a soldier by the look of him, who came through many wars, but lost to love.

  • first song i got stoned to

  • ...counting stars by candlelight, all are dim, but one is bright! :)

  • "Inspiration, move me brightly"

  • Hold away despair, more than this I will not ask.

  • Yes. Who are you billbharper?

  • how about downloading sunrise please

  • this is like the best dead song

  • "which of you to gain me tell, will risk uncertain pains of hell? I will not forgive you if you will not take the chance"

  • for show long live the dead lol

  • this song has the abbillity to take you places that no other song can. just close your eyes and listent to the music. whether its about drugs, or anything. listen to the lyrics, the picture that they paint in your mind is unbeliveable. grateful dead is one of the best songwriting bands ever. they can jam together like no other, and their music will live forever.

  • pure insperation. TERERAPIN

  • Terrapin

  • sweet beautiful music.

    epic.

  • legendary!

  • Jerry was the best. No1 will ever b able to duplicate his voice ita on ofa kind. R.I.P Jerry

  • GOTTA LOVE IT!!!

  • "Soryteller makes no choice, soon you will not hear his voice...his job is to shed light and not to master"

"From the Northwest Corner of a Brand new Cresent Moon...crickets & cicadas sing,A rare & different tune...Terrapin Station"

I believe lyrics by Robert Hunter (beautiful!) Inspiration move me brightley!!!... Thank you Jerry

  • that second part you mentioned is my favorite line in the song. so descriptive. genious

  • i think this song is about acid but correct me if im wrong because im not sure.

  • Whataver it's about, this song is cool as hell!!!

  • Way too simplistic. This song is not "about" anything in a strict literal sense. It's about the images, and the universe it conjures up. It's pure beauty!

  • This song isn't merely "about" acid. It IS acid.

  • Is that the Cincinnati museum?

  • Thanks for downloading this! I don't know what it's about, though...awesome music, I would say.

  • does any one know what this song is about?

  • this song on mushrooms with a good joint is magic

  • "since the end is never told, we pay the teller off in gold in hopes he will come back, but he cannot be bought or sold"

  • I like this.

  • truly amazing...as epic as rush's 2112

  • The first part of the song is sang so beautifully.

  • I love this song

  • This is an incredible song. I love this song more than my mom. Thats right.

  • its like an epic piece of classical music

  • Definitely one of their best songs in my opinion. Great from start to finish

  • Yeah I love that picture.
