  • Do you still have the truck?

  • @idiforddiesel: yes but it isn't mine. It's in the family and I don't have access to it all the time. Poor thing is just sitting most of the time...makes me sad.

  • For some reason I like the instrument cluster found in this generation of pickups best, I need to get the tach and the four-piece gas/temp/battery/pressure for my 87 pickup.

  • how come does diesels how different tachs then the gas trucks

  • Most diesels just have lower redlines and allow for mountains of torque at low rpms...that's what I love about them!

  • @351COUNTRYBOY My 94 Peugeot 405 has the same tach as the gas model :). It redlines at 6,000 and so does the 1.6 gas :).

1.8 gas redlines at 7,000 tho!

  • how boring was ur day lol still like the vid gonna get me a new one here soon i miss that sound

  • I Like that! Nice meaty diesel sound

  • wish mine started that fast when its cold

  • You just got to love Ford Diesel Trucks. Then you've just got to worship them after you start running them on filtered waste vegetable oil that you collect yourself for free (if they give it to you). Just got to love it.

  • What the hell do you know about WVO usage..Shut up and sit down!!

  • @gotveggieoil Obiously with a name like "gotveggieoil" you must be a god or something, so I'm going to bow down to you right now and kiss your feet you mother fucker.

  • Good the important thing is that you know your role!!!

Now become a mute and do us all a favor!

  • @gotveggieoil Anyway, I guess I don't know much about veggie oil. My knowledge is limited, I only have 23 drums, 55 gallon plastic drums full of the stuff. My record collection is 500 gallons in just 2 hours running off the power of my pickup truck batteries with 3500 watt inverter. I'm hear to tell you the centrifuging is not the way to filter it. And despite filtering it to 1 micro with filter bags, it will still settle out in your tank over time. Below 5 microns the food smell is out.

  • I have a 6.9 engine I got for $150.00 believe it has 128,000 miles on it. Today I bought a 1993 non-turbo 7.3 IDI for $500.00 with 170,000 and all the attachments and wiring harness to replace a 240k mile where some part holding camshaft pieces broke! This is all vegi-oil projects.

  • diesel nice!!!!!!!!!!!

  • yup thats an old IDI for ya mine too start up like that in that weather

  • i love the sound of the 7.3

  • nice sound

  • what year is it

  • is the truck a nonpowerstroke

  • yup

  • If im not mistaken is that the 6.9 diesel??

  • 7.3 dude.

  • its the model before powerstroke. built with the same block by the same company, just not set up for higher rpm's and turbos.

  • dont you just love the smail of diesel in the morning

  • this cranks up i crack up

  • In my F250 ive taken a 350z and a Titan, all it has done is a K&N, cat-back but welded a pipe where the cat was, and Bully Dog, bout to switch to SCT

  • Did you wait for the glow plugs?

  • Nice sound. Is it a turbo diesel?

  • No. I think its one of those international engines they used in fords around that time. Its non turbo.

  • As far as i know, the Turbo version of the 7.3 IDI didnt come out until like 1990-1991? and they lasted up until 1994. Then from 1994-2003.5 The 7.3 powerstroke was produced.

  • didn't use turbos until 1997 when the powerstroke was made

  • 93 and 94 7.3 idi had an optional turbo package made by ATS. and fyi powerstrokes came out in 94

  • too bad the titan is one of the worst rated trucks in america. and its a nissan. and its an import. domestic (ford, chevy dodge) are the way to go! and a diesel's torque can haul too. (audi found that out, with the new le mans car)

  • coundent of said it any better. I remember a guy in some video saying that his honda could smoke a cummins anyday. i was like "sure. You'll just need some "minor" upgrades before you can even have a good reaction time."

  • You're a dumb mother fucker, you know that right?

  • Dude a diesel would fucking own your dumbass Nissan. When chipped whether its a Ford Powerstroke, a Chevy Duramax, or a Dodge Cummins, it will do 0-60 in 5 seconds and a 1/4 mile in 11.

Nissans are fucking weak shit. The only thing they are good at is building Skylines and 350z.

  • Thanks! Hey, SakoTGrimes, go squat on something, cause you don't know shit about cars OR trucks if you think the Titan is a good truck. Its poorly built, has horrible gas mileage, but it looks cool. Hey, maybe it'll look even better when it gets its shitty frame torn apart by the torque of a AMERICAN diesel.

I'm not saying that Nissan is a bad company, but they can't make trucks, well full-size at least. The Frontiers alright. But for me, I'll take the Ford Ranger. Already got one.

  • That ain't right.

  • haha

  • Titan more powerful than a Diesel????? Either you're joking or a fool.

  • diesel is hard to start cold lol

  • try getting new glow plugs. your ruining your starter

  • better to crank on it than turn the key ervey 2 sec

  • Do you think it would have started if you didn't gas it?

  • What an awesome sound !!!

  • mine 87 diesel is a crapper i hate it nothign but damn problems and it almost killed me 2 times clutch pedel mount broke and now the lights all shorted out. all this truck is good for is getting firewood most unreliable piece ever owned. my 91 explorer with a cracked lower intake gasket is better than that truck at least it went from jersey to oregon

  • Fix Or Repair Daily

    Found Off Road Dead

  • Chevrolet= Cracked Heads Every Valve Rattles Engine Ticks.

  • shit i see why it took a week for u to come up with that. ford sucks get over it.

  • Cheap Heap Every Valve Rattles Oil Leaks Every Time Dodge= Damned Old Damaged Garbage Equipment

  • Good ones.lol

  • LMFAO omg ahahahaha thats ...too perfect i love it lol someone should turn trhat into a bumper sticker lol

  • LMFAO omg ahahahaha thats ...too perfect i love it lol someone should turn trhat into a bumper sticker lol

  • It is all how you take care of them. I am a diesel mechanic, and have never had a problem with ford diesels. the problem is the idiots that own them.

  • I love this car. Can I Get this?

  • of all the people to try to insult and make cracks at someone on YouTube, it had to be one of you fuck heads.

  • my ex-girlfriend was the one who wrote that comment on my user name. She don't know shit about diesels. I already saw the point to the video and how much time it took to start it.

  • good way to try to save your stupidity... didnt work though

  • tahts things OLD

  • that truck was a piece of shit. i like fords buti mean it turns over gay our truck first crank and it starts no problem even cold.

  • i dont think you have ever owned a 6.9 or 7.3 idi if you have you would no that, that aint a peice of shit that truck cranks just fine you dumshit

  • i have a 7.3 and it runs better than that. dumbshit

  • wat year is it

  • how the hell would I know?

  • dude this guy started up the truck with absolutely no problems. Glow plugs are normal, everything in the truck is normal. Is it a 1987 and a manual or no?

  • b.s. the truck had a big problem starting didn't you listen to it

  • you aint never owned one have you

  • ummm u need to wait for those glow plugs to heat up or sometimes it will hella burn them up

  • balaun17 i agree, its unbelievable how many people do that, not only will it burn out your glow plugs but it wears the hell out of your starter too.

  • How do you know he doesn't have push button GP's? Its a very common mod for IDI trucks. Btw, nice truck, starts up nicely for that cold.

  • oh ya i agree im not trying to dis his truck im just saying alot of people dont let them warm up, i will always see people jump in their diesels and just crank the hell out of them until they start.

  • How will cranking an engine while the plugs are lit "burn them up"?

My diesel keeps the plugs going after it fires for 30 seconds, to help things smooth out faster. What's the difference?

  • because he didnt wait to start to let them warm up slowly so right when he turned it over it they just immediately lite and thats how they fry

  • Why would they light faster if the engine's turning over?

I'm not trying to be difficult, I just can't figure it out. I'm asking to learn.

When the ignition goes on, the plug relay trips and causes the glowplugs to light up. Once that happens, they continue to heat at the same rate whether the engine is turning over or not, don't they?

  • Oh its kewl, no they will not light up faster they always have the same voltage going through them, until the inside of the cylinder is warmed up enough. Yes the glowplug relay does trip and they start to heat up the inside of the cylinder so there is no cold air inside of it or very little anyway and therefore the truck starts easier.

  • Sorry had to make it in two comments not enough room. But if the person doesn't wait to start on a cold start, or even sometimes a warm start. Then the plugs dont have time to warm up the inside of the cylinder completely and then the truck usually has a hard start or doesn't start at all. Not waiting also puts alot of stress on your starter and other components that rely on the warmth of the engine

  • What you said all makes perfect sense - I'm driving a 1986 diesel merc and it's the same way. Your original post about "not only will it burn up the glowplugs" is the only thing I was curious about. Everything else, the extra wear and tear, is perfectly reasonable.

  • to be honest i dont really remember how you can burn them up. but maybe when you go to get your car serviced ask if you can, because i'm pretty sure you can but dont remember how

  • My dad and I actually repair everything ourselves, but I'm a member of a diesel mercedes forum online. I'll check there... if anybody knows it's those guys.

  • alright let me know if anyone knows okay

  • try checking your glow plug relay, if thats working, check your draw on your relay to see if the glow plugs are good. 6.9 or 7.3 are the last of the non electronic fun to work on motors

  • Why did the temp gauge rise then fall?

  • if you have ever owned one you would no that it is tellin you that the starter is turning over if the swith stick that is a warning to help you not burn the starter out

  • Dispite Ford's 6.9 meager performance compared to todays diesels, the 6.9 still sounds like diesel. I would compare it to last radial piston powered war plane to leave the hanger only to be replaced by a boring sounding turbo prop.

  • it took you like 10 seconds to start your timing must be off

  • its a diesel...no timing

  • No timing, its a diesel, just waiting for the glows to heat up in the cold.

  • it's a diesel, no timing notice how the temp gauge rised up then when it got to the top it fell and the truck started up? the glows had to heat up

  • ooo well i dont know anything about diesels i know alot about trucks but not diesels

  • On those International diesels on the Fords the timing adjustment os on the Injector pump. There is a scribe mark on the pump housing, and on the on the pump drive gear cover. When the three nuts ont the housing are loose the pump can be rotated like a distributor (left or right).

The reason why his truck did not fire right away was the combustion chamber was too cold: you can hear it by the way it cranked.

  • the heat gauge rising means that the starter is turning over it has nothing to do with glowplugs when you turn the switch on the glowplug light comes on they heat up when the light go off the glow plugs are heated and you can crank it

  • I have a 1983 Chevrolet Suburban with the 6.2 liter diesel. Before I rebuilt the engine it had 870,000 miles on it... it was a fucking joke. It only has 70k on it now so I wanted to do the K&N air filter test. The have a million mile warranty kind of as a joke... so I want to take this engine past a million miles.

  • Isn't there a glow plug heat up first

  • I'll bet this is a 1983-87 model truck you have.

  • Well, that's an incorrect year bracket. The style truck shown starts in model year 1987, and ends in 1991.

  • 1980-86 and 1987-91. But, I'll guess this is a 1987, the last year of the 6.9 diesel (it was enlarged to 7.3 for '88).

  • lil redline 3600 rpm hahahha

  • its a diesel...

  • because its ajjusts wit the engine so when u like first start it it moves up and down until it finally goes to idle

  • Why is the temprature gauge going way up to HOT while cranking?

  • Does anyone know where the temp. Guage should be reading when the engine is all warmed up?

  • normal

  • nice truck I have an 89 naturally aspirated 7.3 with 84,000 miles on it and it starts just a little better.

  • Nice truck. If you treat it well, it will last you forever.

  • Man what is that knock? Oh yeah its an IDI!

  • that knock is a real diesel motor, not some phony.

  • Truly it is. The 6.9L was an International Harvester (Navistar) design, as it was also first used in 1983 on that company's S-1654 and S-1754 series medium commercial trucks.

  • hmmm, I don't think I have ever heard of those trucks. I am looking for a simple truck to restore. At the moment I am having more spare time than I used to and I become bored easily, so I thought to myself that it is time to do something hands on. Time to do some research!

  • love the sound of a diesel motor

  • Oh hell yes =). <3

  • This is awesome, I love the sound of this diesel engine ! Here in europe we only have ridiculous tiny diesel engines, about every car has less than 2L engines...

  • what year is your truck? i have a 1990 with 98000 miles and your sounds way better than mine.

  • I think his is the 6.9L Diesel which would probably sound better than a 7.3L. I really want a 6.9L

  • i got a 6.9 1985 f250 and it will haul ass its got a banks turbo in it

  • I bet it would. My 6.4L really hauls ass.

  • yea, you gota love the sound of a 6.9

  • post more vids of truck!!

  • hard to tell if you waited to start. Voltage was up, but at the same time.. i heard clicking like you turned ignition on, and then immediately tried to start

  • i did wait for the glow plugs to warm up. i just started filming after they were ready.

  • is that an old 7.3? you should get some action clips of this truck!!

  • nope, just the original, naturally aspired 6.9L
