@TheDonatellooooo Tonally they're pretty close. The 28 JM is quite a bit louder, and has better bass response. Although I will say unless you A/B'd them back to back it'd be hard to tell a difference.
@slander77 what an uninformed statement. maybe because an OM-28V and an OMJM are completly different? 1 and 3/4 vs 1 and 11/16 and V necks versus C necks. Not to mention the OMJM has a martin goldplus installed already, it's largely up to preference. and I find it funny you watch a john mayer martin guitar vid only to badmouth him hahhaha
Completely different guitars my friend. I HATE buying things with someone's name stamped on it, but for guitars it seems like a totally different thing. The JM signature models are well built and designed guitars compared to buying an item like a knife with Bear Grylls' name stamped on it. The OM-28V is nice, but quite different and I'd rather let my ears guide the way than ego.
damn, the OM-28JM sounds so much better to my ears, the sound is so crisp... and that really pisses me off because I know I will only be able to get the current model.
first off, thanks for the comparaison. I just wanted to point out maybe why the OM28JM sounds "louder", bassier or crisper than the OMJM.
I suppose the author recorded the video with a macbook. OSX has a room noise analysis filter on its microphone. basically, it automatically selects which frequencies to equalise. This can be disabled in the prefs i think. It would have been best anyways with a condenser microphone that has no automatic level control.
hey man great stuff, i was just wondering if you did the slow dancing in a burning room intro and if so is there anyway i could hear the whole thing as i thought it was excellent.
either you were playing it cleaner the first time or the om28jm just resonates better and sounds warmer on friends, lovers, or nothing. Hard to tell through youtube.
thanks for posting this. can you please elaborate on the specific differences of the two, especially if the dovetail joint makes any difference in the feel compared to the bolted neck on the omjm. thanks
if i had at least one of these i would be the happiest guy in the world

Buy an OM-28V. Unless your gay for Mayer's Oscar Mayer don't bother. Who wants someone else's signature on their guitar anyway?

Bassier is the almost the opposite of crisper dick head.

What strings come with this guitar?
Plocky241 1 year ago
Even though the crisp of the OM28JM is fantastic the ONJM sounds more balanced and the bass and medium are more accurate than on the OM28JM.
Both are great of course. Just have to pick the one you fit the most with your ears and type of sound you research.

To judge these guitars for what they do best you should definitely be finger picking.

Clapton all the way! The short scale seems to add warmth to the rosewood back and sides that have a tendency to sound a bit metallic.
