You have no right to judge whether they 'know' about faith. There's no reason to believe they don't. They always came off as sincere to me.

Also, whether their music and clothes are 'weird' is irrelevant and purely subjective. Fashion and music styles evolve and change. They dressed and played in the same way that many other bands did at the time and reached a lot of people within the rock scene with their message.
