  • THE GREATEST & COOLEST FUNK BAND OF ALL TIME !!!!!

  • morris day & the time is the greatest performers of all time.they know how 2 put on a show

  • That's some nice rhythm guitar playing - very tight. Alex Weir is also very good.

  • Great footage! Where are parts 1 and 3??

  • i have scene prince live twice and i have scene all his live videos and with all his hits he couldnt kick this band a-- (iam talking about the original time band) prince may be the man but this is the band

  • Couldn't tell me nothing back in the day....I had Morris Day & The Time, Prince & The Revolution, Vanity, and Shelia E......Ouuuuu these were the times.

  • Can you bring back part 1 & 3

  • The way smoke FLOODS the stage is absolutely hilarious!

    $

  • @mantra3000 That smoke is from The Skillet! Yaysss!

  • legends

  • Jungle Love may have been there biggest hit along with the bird only because of Purple Rain. They weren't there best songs by far. The Prince penned get it up, 777-9311, Gigilos Get lonely too,, the walk and cool were all far superior so get off Jesse's jock

  • Amen to the very ACCURATE BPrice1A schools in!!!!

  • Love that "Chili Sauce"!!

  • Is there a part 1 to this set?

  • Sorry to Correct everyone Jungle Love was 85 percent Jesse doing.

  • CHECK OUT MONTE ON THE RIGHT!!! LOL!

  • i agree with u 100% u get no betta than live music real bands The Time, Mint Condition Etc

  • The only band Prince ever said he was afraid of.....and Ironically he created them. Still without this band the SOS Band New Edition, Mary J Blige. Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston wuld not have had hits. Janet Jackson and Mint Condition wouldn't have had careers. Simply put without the personel in this Band R & B music for the 80's 90's and 2000 would have been much different. They need to put out a Concert DVD and promote music education in schools. Hip Hop is great but a live BAND is so much mo!

  • BPrice1A is correct. Prince, Jesse Johnson and Morris Day pretty much were the time in the studio. If you look at the ASCAP website Prince is noted as composer to much of the Time material. They primarily were a touring band during the early 80's. That explains how Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis were fired. They did a production assignment for SOS Band in Atlanta and couldn't make it back in time for a gig and Prince not Morris fired them.

  • damn Jesse was funky on that guitar.

  • Hell, even Monte is gettin' down!

  • Cool. I miss Morris Day's work.

  • ME TOO................

  • The original linenup will be having a continuation at the grammys so please check them out.

  • That boy on that lead guitar is rippin at the end

  • Jesse Johnson was one of the best guitarist of the 80s. Check out "777-9311" by the Time or his solo tunes like "Fool's Paradise" for further proof.

  • Actually, none of the members of The Time played a single note on any albums until their 4th, which was "Pandemonium". Prior to that, every instrument on the first 3 albums was played by Prince. The only one to record on any of the first 3 albums that was an actual member of The Time was Morris Day.

  • not true and i heard this from morris himself when i was the time's opening act in nyc: "ice cream castles" is when it started...that version of "the bird" is live from minneapolis and the rest of that album is jerry hubbard, st paul peterson and mark cardenas...and also that's morris playing drums on "Let's work" and "Partyup"

  • From the unofficial "The Time" website about Ice Cream Castles - "With the exception of "The Bird", which was a live recording by THE TIME from 4th October 1983, there was very little musical input by the other band members. However, bass player Rocky Harris were fired before scenes with The Time in the "Purple Rain" motion picture were shot, so on the album sleeve his replacement in the movie, Jerry Hubbard, is listed as the bass player."

  • I would've included the site address itself in that last post, but for some reason, it can't be posted... just do a search for "The Time", find the wikipedia page, scroll down, and click on the "unofficial homepage" link...

  • C'mon how long is this story going to persist?

I'll buy that story for the 1st 2 Time albums but not the 3rd.

That's Jesse playing and soloing on "Jungle Love". He also wrote the tune! Jesse stated that he's playing on "If The Kid Can't Make You Come" in a Guitar World article from 1988. And as another poster pointed out "The Bird" is a live band recording.

Granted Prince still controlled the production on the album but he's not the ONLY person playing on it.

  • Read for yourself: purplemusic(DOT)mynetcologne(DOT)de/the_time(DOT)html - All tracks written by [Prince] as Jamie Starr except Ice cream castles written by [Prince] as Jamie Starr with [Morris Day]. Jungle love and The bird written by [Prince] as Jamie Starr with [Morris Day] and [Jesse Johnson]. All tracks performed by [Prince] (all instruments and background vocals) with [Morris Day] (lead vocals) and [Jesse Johnson] (guitar) as THE TIME except The bird performed live October 4th, 1983.

  • More - except The bird performed live October 4th, 1983 at First Avenue in Minneapolis (MN) by [Morris Day] (vocals), [Jerome Benton] (valet & percussion), [Jesse Johnson] (guitar), [Rocky Harris] (bass), [Jellybean Johnson] (drums), [Paul Peterson] and [Mark Cardenas] (both keyboards). Background vocals on Chili sauce and If the kid can't make you come by Sharon Hughes. Violin on Chili sauce by Novi Novog.

  • Ok...doesn't this just support what I just posted? My assertion was that Prince wasn't the only musician featured on the Album?

As to what is written at that website most of that info is culled from Per Nielsen's books. As to what's listed as the "official" writting credit, I personally take them with a grain a salt. Sometimes these facts don't jibe with personal accounts from individuals in Prince's camp during that time. Just my opinion.

  • Now as far as Jesse's playing on Jungle Love. Even his playing in general. That's audible if you're really familiar with Jesse's recorded guitar work. Prince and Jesse simply do not play or sound alike. The solo in Jungle is about as far from Prince's thing as you can get.

If you're a guitarist, heck if you have a keen enough ear you'll understand exactly what I'm talking about.

  • the guitar solo on jungle love is definetely jesse, not prince, that is really pretty audible i guess!

  • @zarcon85 jesse only played on the two songs he wrote while in the time: jungle love and the bird! which are their two most famous these days :)

  • @kstrat u can even hear it if u're no musician!

  • exactly...that is pretty audible, too!

  • Is that your opinion or do you have something to base that on?

  • Comment removed

  • Actually it's easy to fool you. Jesse did not play guitar on "The Walk", Prince did... That was the point... to make it not sound like him. As for the "Ice Cream Castles" album, wrong again... All the tracks on that album were written solely by Prince, except Ice Cream Castles and The Bird, written w/ Morris and Jungle Love written w/ Morris and Jesse. He didn't play percussion on 'I don't wanna leave U', Prince did... The only song on that album he didn't write on his own was "Wild and Loose"
