  • what distro are u using?

  • why not dual boot with windows

  • k i am "new" to linux for the fact that i have used windows all of my life

so forgive me for asking this...

but what exactly does wine do??

    does it like boost performance

or just let u play like games for windows and stuff

a NICE reply would be nice

    mean comment= *face palm*

  • @TheSnyperxD it simply allows you to run some windows programs on linux. As I understand, it is kind of like an emulator. (I just dual boot)

  • @TheSnyperxD Linux is a very different OS and programs designed to work in windows would not natively run on Linux (as Linux programs wont run natively on windows), wine is a software that attempts to mimic windows features (and does it very well) to help various windows programs could run under Linux. To make things simple, wine allows you to run .exe or .msi files under Linux (games included).

  • dual booting and using windows for gaming works. though it's nice to see a great title able to run on linux via wine. once gaming gets easier/better on linux in the future there'll be no need for windows to game with at all.

  • What is the name of the gnome theme that you use?

  • Do you play fofix in your linux????

  • one drawback with wine is, it's so much harder to get joysticks and wheels etc to work with it.

  • Dude, please help me, my NFS Undercover doesn't work in playonlinux and wine.. I use CQ40-416AU with ubuntu 9.10 amd64.. help me guys.. Thx b4..

  • 1 question... Is gaming in linux using wine FASTER than gaming in Win7???

  • No.

  • so gaming in win7 is better than in wine.

  • Yep, but if you prefer Linux as OS for all other areas (as I do), Wine is great. :)

  • Tnx, Im just glad gaming is possible with linux, so i can finally leave windows behind.

I think im gonna dual boot with win7 for lan parties :) and ubuntu for everything else.

  • Yeah, that is basically how I roll.

  • @KennYA51 I wouldn't rely on Linux yet. At least until game devs piss on DirectX and start using OpenGL again.

  • @DaweyYT

hi How r u... im new on linux and id like to know how do u install the game because ive been tring for while and nothing... i download i iso and on Win... runs perfecly.. but when i try to install it on ubuntu is almost impossible for me... firs i try to install it using PlayO.... V 1.38. and nothing, the i try using gmount.. and i thing is got installed but i cant run it.. the screen get black ,,,, by the way im using Ubuntu 10.10 and my pc. hpdv6t,4G DDR3,Nvidia 230, I7..help

  • @KennYA51 but there is CEDEGA, that is said to run better than win7 :P

  • @KennYA51 Sometimes yesh, and sometimes it even adds better quality too :P (for me at least)

  • nope,I actually went to college and left my main quadcore pc at home(I only have my win7 netbook with me)

  • Be a friend and help me out....how did u manage to get sound to work in recordmydesktop?

  • What system do U have?? Ubuntu or Fedora?? If yes than problem is that RecordMyDesktop(RMD) is not compatibile with pulseaudio server(PA) (but not only RMD, there is Skype to say at least). So what I did was remove PA and install alsa & esound. Than in RMD sound configuration i set hw:0,0 (it will vary dependant what sound hardware U have). The only disadvantage is theres no sound control on panel & via multimedia keys on keyboard ( I installed Gnome Alsa Mixer).

  • @MidnightDreamsDesign wow,wayyy to complicated,also,I'm on windows now,waiting for Ubuntu 10.04

  • Yeah. I've hope somebody gonna change it till 10.04 & all software available for Ubuntu gonna be usable with PulseAudio. Till that day I'm going to use workarounds. The worst in this situation is that for me it's easy but when someone not knowing linux wanna use soft & its not working so he drop linux :( Sad but true.

    Really waiting for changes.

  • what windows games can you play on linux? anything like perfect world and what not?

  • appdb . winehq . org

  • Okaayyy.. I never looked this deep in to the application.. Thank you very much!

  • Dawey

you talk about a Playonlinux script... Can that be found somewhere? Or was it simply a matter of putting the CD/DVD in the drive and install using Playonlinux? Would be awesome!!!

  • This game has a script in newer versions of PlayOnLinux. You can check out how to install PlayOnLinux and install the latest version from the official website. Then select "install" -> "games" "NFS Undercover" and install the game very easy.

  • hahah sound is crackling. What a load of shit!

  • Dear sir, that has to do with the fact that I'm screencasting. The sound works fine when not recording.

You are a load of shit.

  • Nice to see Wine is doing such an amazing progress.

  • Yeah, I started using WINE seriously a about a year ago and it has improved dramatically. :)

  • Wow, Undercover will work! Sweet. I use Cedega for my games under Linux. Undercover crashes when running it under Cedega, and I haven't bothered with Wine or PlayOnLinux.

  • Yeah, and if you have a nVidia 8XXX or 9XXX card it will run pretty nice. : )

  • Awesome. I've got an nVidia 8500 GT with 1 GB.

  • I can't say the same.

Because I have a nvdia 9300 gs (512mb), 180.11 driver and the most recent wine verion and when i play undercover, I need to play with every thing on low and i still have lag..

  • Have you tried to edit the registry etc? Did you install it with PlayOnLinux?

If so, I stand corrected. I don't have that much of a knowledge how the different cards in the 8XXX and 9XXX family performs, do you know how the 9300 gs performs compared to other cards?

  • runs very good too.

    AMD Athlon64 X2 5800+ @ 3.2GHz

    4GB RAM (1066MHz)

    XFX 9800GT 1GB

  • Works pretty good. 5/5
