@TheSnyperxD Linux is a very different OS and programs designed to work in windows would not natively run on Linux (as Linux programs wont run natively on windows), wine is a software that attempts to mimic windows features (and does it very well) to help various windows programs could run under Linux. To make things simple, wine allows you to run .exe or .msi files under Linux (games included).
dual booting and using windows for gaming works. though it's nice to see a great title able to run on linux via wine. once gaming gets easier/better on linux in the future there'll be no need for windows to game with at all.
hi How r u... im new on linux and id like to know how do u install the game because ive been tring for while and nothing... i download i iso and on Win... runs perfecly.. but when i try to install it on ubuntu is almost impossible for me... firs i try to install it using PlayO.... V 1.38. and nothing, the i try using gmount.. and i thing is got installed but i cant run it.. the screen get black ,,,, by the way im using Ubuntu 10.10 and my pc. hpdv6t,4G DDR3,Nvidia 230, I7..help
What system do U have?? Ubuntu or Fedora?? If yes than problem is that RecordMyDesktop(RMD) is not compatibile with pulseaudio server(PA) (but not only RMD, there is Skype to say at least). So what I did was remove PA and install alsa & esound. Than in RMD sound configuration i set hw:0,0 (it will vary dependant what sound hardware U have). The only disadvantage is theres no sound control on panel & via multimedia keys on keyboard ( I installed Gnome Alsa Mixer).
Yeah. I've hope somebody gonna change it till 10.04 & all software available for Ubuntu gonna be usable with PulseAudio. Till that day I'm going to use workarounds. The worst in this situation is that for me it's easy but when someone not knowing linux wanna use soft & its not working so he drop linux :( Sad but true.
you talk about a Playonlinux script... Can that be found somewhere? Or was it simply a matter of putting the CD/DVD in the drive and install using Playonlinux? Would be awesome!!!
This game has a script in newer versions of PlayOnLinux. You can check out how to install PlayOnLinux and install the latest version from the official website. Then select "install" -> "games" "NFS Undercover" and install the game very easy.
Wow, Undercover will work! Sweet. I use Cedega for my games under Linux. Undercover crashes when running it under Cedega, and I haven't bothered with Wine or PlayOnLinux.
Because I have a nvdia 9300 gs (512mb), 180.11 driver and the most recent wine verion and when i play undercover, I need to play with every thing on low and i still have lag..
Have you tried to edit the registry etc? Did you install it with PlayOnLinux?
If so, I stand corrected. I don't have that much of a knowledge how the different cards in the 8XXX and 9XXX family performs, do you know how the 9300 gs performs compared to other cards?
what distro are u using?

mean comment= *face palm*

@TheSnyperxD it simply allows you to run some windows programs on linux. As I understand, it is kind of like an emulator. (I just dual boot)

one drawback with wine is, it's so much harder to get joysticks and wheels etc to work with it.

1 question... Is gaming in linux using wine FASTER than gaming in Win7???
KennYA51 2 years ago
No.
DaweyYT 2 years ago
so gaming in win7 is better than in wine.
KennYA51 2 years ago
Yep, but if you prefer Linux as OS for all other areas (as I do), Wine is great. :)
DaweyYT 2 years ago
Tnx, Im just glad gaming is possible with linux, so i can finally leave windows behind.
I think im gonna dual boot with win7 for lan parties :) and ubuntu for everything else.
KennYA51 2 years ago 8
Yeah, that is basically how I roll.
DaweyYT 2 years ago 2
@KennYA51 I wouldn't rely on Linux yet. At least until game devs piss on DirectX and start using OpenGL again.

Dear sir, that has to do with the fact that I'm screencasting. The sound works fine when not recording.
