"Dick Tracy! The World's most famous crime stopper!" Watch has he stops absolutely no crimes! Watch Dick Tracy as he does absolutely NOTHING!!!
... so I was a little bitter about this show when I was a kid. When I saw this cartoon back when I was six (1990) I wanted to see DICK TRACY! Not racist stereotypes do all the work as he sits on his ass doing nothing!
@luisrox94 - Well, I could see it playing late night, perhaps.....they made Tintin, after all (Of course, the English version was cleaned up...........good thing I am fluent in French! lol )
I to remember officer joe bolton, hosting this cartoon, its a shame we have no video of the great host OFFICER JOE BOLTON. I believe he was returned to the stooges up to 1971. Cartoon hosts got switched from show to show back then, and then they just vanished from our lives.
U said it. All he seems 2 do is sit on his NUTT's and hand out assignments. I can't remember him doing any "Leg work". In fact, the entire show was based around his "Lackys".
Wow Shawn! Did you get the complete set? I did not know that they were avalible in stores! I grew up in Paterson NJ and we used to watch Dick Tracy at 12.00 noon in 1964-66! It was gone for a 6 years and it came back on in Sept 1971.They also bought back MR McGoo which came on right afterwards. This around 4 in the afternoon.WPIX it in the 60s and WoR-9 picked it back up in 1971! Wow!
1975tooto, I'm obliged to you for those details of when this aired. I was in the Bronx in the 60's and north NJ in the 70s and tried to nail down just when this aired, because I'm trying to track down a vague memory related to it.
I did an online search of New York Times archives of their TV listings, but they don't specify "Dick Tracy." They only list "Cartoons." So your specifics really helped me.
Hey Thru, thanx! My family members call me the Family Historian. (LOL).Yes the newspapers back then only listed these shows under cartoons! They all did the same, even the NJ papers because I would go to the library and try to look these things up also only to get the same results. You may want to try the old TV Guides.Oh yeah they showed Dick Tracy on WOR-9 IN 1981 ABOUT 6.30 IN THE MORNING but it lasted only 8 days.Soupy Sales also showed it in 1961-2 WPIX!
@60sThru80s I'm from the Bronx also (born 1960). I've been trying to find T.V. Guide listings on the web from the early 60's (the actual pages scanned would be great, though I guess unwieldy to search). Do you know any sites that have this?
Not the BEST cartoon of the world, but I prefer this than the crappy cartoons being shown on TV nowadays.

The Archie series was a lot closer to the comics. Tracy actually did something in it. But it's not available anywhere.

It's a shame that nobodys ever done a TRUE Dick Tracy cartoon, based on the old Chester Gould strips (A la Batman the Animated Adventures)

@Shoknifeman: Being that we are an incredibly PC society, we'll see that show when pigs fly.

I just got the DVD set at Wal Mart, and it has Tracy's "Crime Stopper" tips too!
I must have seen this on WPIX when I was a kid too, because I remember watching it when I was around 5 or 6 back in 1971.
And being it's channel 11, I also remember Chiller, which was always a fave of mine!

on WPIX TV Ch.11 in NYC.

the show's host:"Police Chief Joe"Bolton?

This gives away our ages, LOL.

Six-two and even, over and out.
