  • very nice!

  • nice work man...!!! I love my old dhaka...!

  • Proper nightmare!

  • Dhaka once was a very beautiful city but poor Bangoli almost destroy it. They are really stupid and ignorant.

  • People, please go to Dhaka. It is one of the most interesting, and magical places on earth.

It is both Heaven, and Hell, a place where there are those with less than nothing, and yet those people are beyond friendly, and beyond generous.

I saw things there that kept me awake at night, and I saw things that gave me hope for mankind.

  • how far old dhaka from airport?

  • 1:11....daiey plastic...ostad....X'D.....

  • this is my home,,, my city..

  • @JohnfromPerth , i guess u didnt notice the title well. the video shows the old part of Dhaka not the new one. pls dont take my words as abusive.:)

  • Thank you for posting this!

  • The thing shown as New Market is not New Market, its beside New MArket.........called Nilkhet.

  • Most churches in the UK are "quiet" & "empty" too..I think thats more down too people not bothering going to churches than it being a place of tranquility, surely in an area that busy it would be a hive of activity.. if you wanted peace & tranquility my friend you should have gone to the countryside.. LOL.. I think old Dhaka needs to be demolished, seismologists predict an earthquake in the next 20 yrs in dhaka, govt needs to take action now to minsimise life loss,

  • @skillcentre.

Dont act like a moron, Djew york's gdp is a 'mere' $440bn while Dubai's doubled in less than 4 years to $70 b. Djew york is rather poor as the financial capital of a 'rich' country, let alone the largest western city in the largest western country.

It's Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Saudi that can buy hundreds of Djew york with all their stashes of cash and dash away with the 'honey'.

  • man are u nuts?????????NYC economy is 1.2 trillion USD , google it idiot... NYC wall street is the commercial centre of the earth, one problem inside the wall street, the financial district of NYC, the entire worlds drenches into recession,, I have spend 2 years in Dubai. The city is smaller than Dhaka, lol. Its a small and growing city..Dubai Saudi dont even come in BBC CNN business report.. Even Mumbai comes from Asia

  • i m a pimp(magi dalal) sum time gay(gandu) call me

    008801725108416

  • i like your analogy with scubadiving however respite can be found in any religious building, peoples homes etc etc...the backdrop of the church symbolised for me that you could only find peace in a western setting with its particular ambience. ime sure ive read too much into it. thanks for visiting bangladesh.

  • does anyone know what location this is?

  • Its some where close to old dhaka!

  • no matter how dirty da streets r or how disorganized da traffic is in dhaka, da love, da hospitality n da bonding r da greatest n uncomparable n unforgettable. luv u dhaka, luv u bd :) luv my land n luv dis vid!!

  • 1.12 to 1.14: "oi halar po, tui koi aisos?" lol....I was laughing my ass out :D thanx a lot 4 posting dis vid....it made me cry coz it brought down loads of nostalgic memories :( miss my bangladesh n miss my dhaka a lot :( my heart cries to go visit my country. it had been a long time since I saw bd :( nwayz I luved dis vid!! n also thanx for da comments in da end of da vid which r so true :) thanx a bunch!!

  • This is what struck me about both Dhaka and New Delhi: drivers are constantly honking their horns (or bells)! It just goes to show how poorly traffic is organized. Go to a city like London or Brussels and you don't hear much honking, even during rush hour.

  • Dhaka is better than NYC!!! What!! NYC is the richest city in the world with total GDP of more than 1 trillion... It can actually buy 30 Dubai cities and 2 and half London city ,, lolz...(according to GDP statistics).. Its home to second higest billionaires and the biggest market for Porche,BMW and Mercedez cars .You,, whoever have claimed have NYC being bad probably lives in the poorer streets . !

  • i been there did get lost then, just round the corner was this bar so went in there and got drunk

  • the food in the streets r the best!!!

  • DHAKA IS DA BEST! WE LOVE dhAKa!

  • @ahmed8203

SO MUCH OF A POWERTY,,,WHAT IF BANGLADESH AND PSKIATAN WILL HAVE THE united COUNTRY.....A NUCLEAR POWER AND J-10 MANAFACTURER OF AIR JET .....WITH LOTS OF WAR.

  • hey thanks a lot for this video. the ultra-modernized parts of dhaka might seem attractive to most people but nothing beats the beauty and culture of old dhaka. my old dhaka rocks!

  • Some parts look alittle bit like Kolkata

  • Sylhet = 2nd LONDON.

  • Oh my friend...my friend...Dhaka provide so many talented taxi driver for my city, New York. Thank you, Dhaka.

  • Great insight for me! Thanks.

  • a@ 1.12sec .. LOL ha ha... listen 2 it !

  • lmao...

  • I'm so happy to see this. I'm a Bangladeshi adoptee and no one's ever told me anything about my country. Don't know why. I'm learning and I realize I was missing out all the time...

  • great to read your post. bd is crowded and poor, but theres greath warmth in the people, who have a deep cultural heritage and are talented in the arts and crafts. i encourage you to visit one day you wont regret it, as you probably dont know anyone there one idea would be to maybe volunteer for a few weeks for the numerous charities and ngos or take a friend along and backpack, take care...sharik.

  • That's really nice of you. I do have four sisters over there, but I don't know them and I don't know if they're alive either. If they are, they are in their thirties. Great idea to volunteer in Bangladesh. I had never thought of that option before. All the best to you!

  • Doesn't Matter If You Are British Or Chinese. You Will Be Safe There. Dhaka Is The Best City Ever. Home Sweet Home.

  • cant wait to go my home sweet home....

  • iv been right there

  • would it be safe to travel around dhaka i am british?

  • yeah its very safe. just take precautions. know where u going. travel with other ppl. get a local if u can. avoid some bad parts after dark. try to blend in. don't carry anything too expensive and flashy. so u r actually planning to travel?? best wishes

  • Before questioning about safety level of Dhaka, I think you better hone your english a bit you Mr. "British"

  • ????

  • it's the same as any country in asia...just gotta be careful...where my relatives live there are tons of british people

  • well...thank u for posting this.the bookstores u'v shown here rn't inside new market though...they r at a place called neelkhet, a haven for all book-lovers like myself, very near new market.

  • Wow! I miss it. I am a big fan of "Hazir Biriayni" I graduated from St. Gregory's high and I always love the old city of Dhaka. Thanks for the nice clip.

  • U need any tips aboput old town please4 mail me

  • dhaka...my hometown

  • good to see my birth place on youtube. thanks

  • will be visiting dhaka after about 30 years in August, bit scary!

  • Dhurr, made me homesick. Especially the priceless "oi halar po" comment from rickshawalla.

  • Thanks for sharing this vid! I haven't been to the old desh since I was 7, and would like to see it sometime...

  • hahaha.... "oi halar po, koi aisos" - rikshala to a cng-ala (1:12).

  • hey, it covers only a small glimpse of Old Dhaka, the video mostly covers Gulistan, Bongshal, Motijheel areas and a bit forward. But there are plenty more beautiful places in old town like Narinda, TatiBazar, Bokshibazar, Islampur etc. But, anyway, it was a good video, Thanks for sharing. Peace :)

  • Wow!Old Dhaka looks just like north calcutta. It's amazing how two brother cities can look so much alike and yet be so different. After all a simple political boundary does not destroy the common culture of bengalis no matter what side we live.East or West Bengal is one in mind and soul.

  • Excellent video... capturing the beauty of Dhaka that other people are scared to do. This is the real Dhaka!!!

  • I do not know why but I found the guy and his video to be very offencive. Old Dhaka is probably the worst place to visit. Obviously he would feel that. He should have gone to Shylet, Chittagong or Coxs-Bazaar to experience the true beauty of our great nation Bangladesh.

  • Being from Dhaka myself, I didn't find this video least bit offensive. I don't agree that the video maker could have shown a "better part" of Dhaka. What is a "better part"? Back in 2005, an Australian friend visited me and he loved the people and life style of Dhaka. For any outsider, the gardens and modern buildings is of no charm, you can get that in any city. It's the book stores of Neel Khet, the architecture of Old Dhaka that makes this city unique.

  • sillychild420- I'm NOT too crazy about city life but that is me, noone has to agree or disagree with my viewpoint.

  • having been in canada for my university studies and having come from dhaka, i have realized how controlled and monotonous the first world can be when it comes to day to day life. I miss the chaos and spontaneity of the third world. Thats why i go back home every summer :)

  • Well done. Not a tourist trap video.

  • Nice video. I see it only covers Old Dhaka, but it is nice anyway. I like it. I am planning to visit the city very soon, so it's nice to see what I'm going to find.

  • Yes I agree my trip to Dhaka was was mostly as seen in the video! Crowded noisey smelly and very exiting! I also went to the Armenian church and was very thankful for the tranquility!

  • This is the true essence of Dhaka. We should not be ashamed of it. East has its own beauty, who cares if the west doesn't appraise it.

  • I agree with ThunderBlue84. This video is of "Old Dhaka" - just a small part of Dhaka. This would give the wrong impression to people who haven't visited the city. There are countless places of tourists' interest inside Dhaka that really deserve to be video-taped. Even the famous Lalbagh Fort in Old Dhaka wasn't covered in the video.

  • Very cool video. Feel like I've taken a little trip to Dhaka.

  • Do the people living in the rich parts have any shame? spending all that money so selfishly. Bangladesh is one of the most corrupted countries in the world. The majority of the country is poor, theres only a minority of people that have money and live in those nice areas, living as if the poor dont exist.

  • NICE VIDEO LIKE TRAVEL CHANNEL

  • Good video. But most people would think Dhaka is like that. I hope someone will make a video of great places in Dhaka, like Zia Uddan, Lal Bagh etc. Specially, most people will be amazed if they see a video of Bashundhara City mall, the largest shopping mall in South Asia. There are also numerous woth seeing places which deserve to be video taped and put on Youtube.

  • wow.. this is amazing! Most of the Eastern world is like this... it's reality. But I guess its what is destined.

  • This is the city where I was born. But in this video you have seen the dark side of the city. But this is not all. I wish I could have presented you the rich and spoiled part of the city too.

  • Oh wow! Makes me very nostalgic all of a sudden....

Just wanted to point out that Dhaka is the City of Rickshaws, Bangladesh is the country. The book market is (or was) called Neel Khet and is opposite New Market (where you can buy almost anything and not just books). Anyways, thanks a lot for posting this.
