The Combat forms could either be pure or hosts. Flood Stalkers (a pure form) could either transform to Tank (Flood Pure form [they release more copies of themselves in battle]) or Ranged (Annoying sniper-like-flood). As I said in the previous comment, infected forms come from wide of a range of Covenants and Humans. The only reason why most of time Grunts don't become flood, is because they throw Plasma Gernades (it changes their DNA) so they can't get infected.

You mean the Tank (Pure forms) are the ones that makes the infection forms, the infection forms infect live and dead bodies (or hosts) and make more copies of themselves. Human infected forms could either by combat or carriers. Once a human has been infected long enough, it turns into a carrier. Some Combat forms die and as a result and release infection forms that the first infection form reproduced.

Now then, Calcium has nothing to do with it. The Flood Infection form uses those little "arms" to pierce the skin and administer a neurotoxin which both disables the target and cuts off their immune system. This then allows the flood infection form to convert the body into a suitable vessel for its intended purpose.

If you want to know what your bones would be without calcium, then try putting a chicken in a bowl of vinegar for a week or two.
