a creepy situation happened for me while I was breastfeeding my baby in public. I was using an utter cover (basically a huge bib that covered my chest and the baby with a tiny opening at the time for me to look down and watch my baby). This guy thought it would be funny to look in that same hole. He smiled (creepy) and then said "you should cover up." UHM GROSS!

I use a shawl. It's a nice piece of accesorie and it covers me and my baby. That's what I personally recomend.

i Breast feed my children when I am at home, at a friend or family house. However, when I am going to stay outdoors for the day I pump my milk at home and prepare a few bottles. Then I tend to carry a manuel breast pump with me, I think that is a great solution to all this debate about no it's not right or it's right to breast feed in public places.

i totally disagree with breastfeeding in public. i'm a waitress and can't tell you how many times i go over to take a drink order and the mom has her boob out at the table with her kid attached to it. As a mother of 5, breastfeeding is the best! Nursing covers are ok. I have been discreet about my nursing my sister is open. She makes me uncomfortable. My youngest is 11/2 happily nursing. I try to be as discreet as I can for myself and others around me, not to many are fussing about my nursing. When my sister nurses everyone gets uneasy and kind of nervous. I've done pumping but child at time wouldn't take. Other breastfed child great @ 8. It's ok to nurse in public but have respect for others

The law in Tx states a breastfeeding mother cannot be harassed. I printed up the law on half an index card. On the top says "Harassing a breastfeeding mom?" and when anyone has a problem with me breastfeeding I hand them a card! It pretty much shuts them up right away.

I am a newborn nurse and I feel that all women should breastfeed and/or pump, if they are able to. HOWEVER, I do feel that, when in public, they should cover up with a blanket or shawl or something. A lady at my church is nursing her baby and she just "pops it out" in the middle of church, without covering or being discrete. I feel that some women use it as an attention seeking means.

ok, nursing mama here... you can nurse your baby in public without "bearing it all". I cover up with a blanket so that it makes me feel more comfortable and doesn't make anyone else feel weird. Most of the time people don't even realize what's going on under there after the baby starts eating. There's absolutely no reason why a nursing mom should have to stay home because she may need to feed her baby and we shouldn't have to hide in a bathroom either!

I agree 100% with Ms. Staten that breast feeding is a private matter that should not be done in a public setting. What ever happened to "tact" and "etiquette", especially in our country (i.e. USA)? I completely understand the benefits and support it, however, a private setting is much more appropriate. About breast feeding - my mother raised 8 kids and stopped after the first two. I was not breast fed and have no ill effects because of it.

Mothers KNOW that it makes people uncomfortable. My aunt did that blanket breat feeding thing infront of me when I was little and it made me uncomfortable. In the mall where I live there's couches in the bathrooms which I think were put there for breast-feeding mothers, and some restaurants do too.

I generally have a hard time with kids being in restaurants and stuff, it (honestly) makes me anxious because a lot of children scream and have tauntrums.

It's not that simple. Breasts make the amount of milk that your baby needs to eat when it is ready to eat. So, you have to somehow get far enough ahead on supply to have some in a bottle. Then, when you are in public and your baby needs to eat, that means that your breasts are full of milk and need to be emptied as well. If you feed from a bottle then you have to find somewhere private to empty your breasts somehow. Why should this be necessary?

Thank you for this video. I am sure new moms will truly appreciate it. I nursed both of my boys, the first for 17 months, the second for 12 months. Some of my friends were repulsed initially to say the least even though I was extremely discreet. However, they did come around and got used to it after a while. Many times I had individuals come up to me and carry on a whole conversation never even knowing that I was nursing, but instead thinking the baby was asleep. Nursing moms rock!!!!
