I can see the guide moving a bit left and right on the video while your cranking. I'm no Einstein, but that is not cutting absolutely square and true if I can visibly see that mandrel and guide moving side to side. A power tool would certainly help since that big handle puts too much force on that tiny guide mandrel.
that's a great tool design - brilliant use of the bore brush. the cutting edges look very efficient for a hand-powered tool.
if i may suggest one addition to the kit: brass-faced tools (and/or a softer material) to slide on the pilot and polish the crown without risk of rounding the edges.
I noticed the barrel threading. If you have and attachment (that you don't plan to remove) on the barrel, do you really have to worry about protecting the crown with the 11 degree crown? Thanks for the vid.
I'm surprised that there was no chamfer where the bore breaks into the crown. A majority of my newer rifles have it, I believe I read that the purpose is to direct gases off center and to the sides. Any thoughts on this ?
ive been an amature trying to learn this trade on my own for 3 yrs now and it seems the only thing ive learned is that i have ALOT to learn. i want to go to a real school when i retire from the army in10 yrs. i will buy one of these tools when i have the money i have a few rifles that need it. thanx so much for the great video!
That has to be the coolest hand powered tool I have scene in a very long time. I can tell you honestly, if I had the money in my pocket right this minute, I would call and order one. I have friends who need this done and don't realize it. Thanks for the actual use video instead of some cheesey info- mercial.
@doug32588@doug32588 Hello,Doug Thank you for your positive feedback. BTW, Dave Manson will soon be selling "Military Rifle Crowning Kit", which will be much less expensive because of reduced number of components. Watch my other video about this kit. Best to you, Boris

This has to be one of the best tutorials I have seen! Great job Dave! Does this work with air rifles too?

"I'm surprised that there was no chamfer where the bore breaks into the crown"
This is done on production rifles, but NEVER on extreme accuracy target rifles. the Mason crown is what you want for utmost accuracy.
