Do Grandparents Have The Rights They Should?

If you don't pay a kid's bills and take care of them you have no rights even if you are one of their parents after a divorce. How in the hell do grandparents think they have some kind of right to see their offspring's offspring?Leave it to selfish, sick in the head baby boomers to bring attorneys into something like this. The worst generation of granparents in human history demanding visitation.Remeber the "Grandparents" today were the self absorbed dirtbag parents of 20-30 years ago..

A Grandparent means your a Grand-Parent now because your Child/ren happen to be a Parent to a child/ren of there own/that is also the other persons child/ren. It does not actually make you a Parent to your Child/rens-Child/ren. But it does make your Child/rens Child/ren your Grand-Children & you the Grand-Parent to your Child/rens Child/ren. Our children have a Narcissistic baby boomer Paternal Grand-Mother. She was raised an only child & 3 half sisters she never met. She never liked her MIL.

This generation is purely narcissistic. I would not have ever kept my kids from either grandparents. I don't know how they even live with themselves. Yes, they use their kids as Bate. How sick is this world? Grand means great and Parent means your the next in line as a parent of the children. It's a sick world.

Lets say that the kids we raised are now using their kids, our grandkids, as bate so that we do what they say or else we loose the ability to see our grandkids. It is cruel to the babies themselves as we all have much to offer our grandkids, Love being the most valuable asset to offer them.

What people don't understand IS that it is not about grandparents rights, it's about parental rights!! grandparents should have the same rights as any extended relative, which is few to none.

I love my grandsons. My son married a girl and they then my daughter in law gave birth to my first and then my second granson. I went through divorce myself after 27 years of marriage and so I lost my home and had to move into a smaller home. It is very clean and my daughter in law says that she is very close to HER MOM and so it is only normal that her mom see the babies more than me. She also uses an excuse that my house is not baby proofed. I am heartbroken and have no recourse.

Oh my....I think the question is: Why should they have rights? Did their parents have rights over their children? Do regular babysitters have rights over children they watch? NO. Nor should they. Advocating for grandparents? Give me a break. This stupid law destroyed my family and my children. Its a sick sad world when grandparents raise their kids, then feel the need to forceably take their grandchildren. I would never do this to my kids with their kids, its sickening.

I have not seen my grandchildren in almost 2yrs (they live in NJ and I live in PA) I lost in court as my grandson is 6 and granddaughter 2 and I did not have "a long-term" bond with them,

My son was forced to sign a document by her attorney that he was not allowed to bring them near me or she would stop all his visitations and I love my son enough to stay away so he can be a father to them,

You did the right thing but daughter in laws are evil these days and only want it to be aobut their family and to heck with the fsons mom / dad...............It is so wrong for one side of the grandparents to see the children due to her being the mother of the daughter in law. My son is brainwashed by his wifes mother and I am exhausted from fighting them to see my grandbabies.

I am now 36 years old and was removed from my parents custody by the state...the same state 15 years later gave visitation to those parents that they deemed abusive. I am facing jail time because I refuse to turn my children over to my mother. Tell me why these grandparents would have any right! They had their rights as my legal parents removed by the state yet they have some legal claim on my children? I will go to jail until my kids are 18 before allowing one visit by their loving grandparents

I agree not all grandparents have a loving positive influence in their grandchild's life. That also goes for parent's. Not all parent's are good parent's. I would like to talk to you more about what has happen to me with my grandchildren and you will understand why grandparent's need right's.

No, not always! Be very careful what u create.Put yourself in your children's shoes.What would be good for them and not you?I've spoken to children(now adults) and each response was hurtful to them.The quote from the child's mouth" My parent's thought they were hurting my grandparents but, they were really hurting us." Now, I know that there are some person out there that would cause more harm than good.But,please think of the children's feelings.

Thank you for realizing there are some parent's out there who hurt their own children. I'm not saying all parent's. Their are alot of grandparent's that do nothing but have their grandchildren kept from them because they won't give into the parent's demands. I am also deemed a "fit" parent by the courts ( I've not even a ticket!);yet I too, have spent thousands, ( over $30,000) against paternal grandparents. How can people be awarded "rights", with no responsibilities, based merely on sharing some DNA, a generation removed?? Fit parents should not be forced to have their children visit people. Why do the fit biological parents have less rights than grandparents??? What about the fit parent's civil rights to raise their children, as they see fit?

I am a grandmother who was denied grandparent visitation. Both parent's objected. The father had a protectioon order against him. The mother taped the father saying he would kill her and the children and burn their house down.The mother admitted in a written confession she's allowed her new husband to physically and mental abuse them. I have never harmed my grandchildren but yet the parent's can object to me visiting. I know these kids miss seeing me as I do them. I believe this is abuse.

Grandparents have an important role in the grandchilds life. If they are sueing for visitation they are nothing more than a negative influence on the family unit.

I think that if both parents are living together and both agree for the grandparent not to see the child or children, that no court should ever grant these rights.

Either you don't have children or don't have any grandchildren yet. Until you have a grandchild that you aren't allowed to see for no reason you will never know the pain a grandparent suffers. Some of my best memories are times I spent with my grandparent's. I miss them & love them dearly I can't imagine if I never had them in my life. I always considered myself lucky to have them be part of my life.
