  • We like the cool cat, what's its name?

  • @0209KMK58 BUDDY :-)

  • Sorry it's a continuation of last post sir I am not use to read tabs I always play by my ear. Can u plz help me to build a chord circle for scale in jazz so that if I play a chord solo I first try chords nested in my scale. Please help. God bless n eagerly waiting for reply

  • @11kerol i am not sure i understand your question.sorry but i don't think of scales and all that stuff when i play chord solos. i just play the melody on the first and second string and stack notes under it that sound good to me.

  • Hello sir it's me again. Sir i have been trying ur lessons they are absolute wonder thanks I learnt my first jazz song thanks to ur lessons and tab for white Christmas. I have one concern when I play normal music that is diatonic scale eg c maj. Chords I use is C/F/G/Am/Em/Dm or E. If I play song in c maj scale these are the chords fall in to it and if any other chord is there it's accidental chord. But with jazz how do I build my chord circle as we do in normal music. Because I am not use to r

  • Fabulous lesson Freddy .Many thanks for sharing : )

  • Hi freddy great lessons how can I add base note to the chords. You are a wonderful teacher and person it's a pleasure to see u always keep posting more lessons all ur lessons are my fav can u recommend some songs I can download and learn thanks n god bless

  • @11kerol thx ! just add the root on the 5th or 6th string for the bass note . for the D9 just add the D note 5th string .for G13 add the G note 6th string etc. i would recommend learning any of the tunes on my channel.

  • Nice to find your channel I was hooked from the big G13 diagram, it said no nonsense clarity. On a whole a lot of fun and very useful so thanks.keep up the good work

  • @demejiuk those are words i love to hear ! thx !

  • love your guitar - great tone

  • @simeon1255 thx ! i hope you love the lesson also :-)

  • Thank you Freddy for your wonderful approach to teaching. I think I've picked up more from you than from hundreds of other videos around!

Please keep it up, if you can put up some different jazz blues comping ideas, that would be great.

  • very good lesson! thank you! one thing you don't hear very often and new players should know is that to be a great musician, you must be a great human being, and that means first and foremost to respect life. Watching you spoil your cat, and your connection, i'm not surprised at your skill ! You are inspiring !

  • @alinday thank you for the kind words . by the way . i found your music very exiting and entertaining ! :-) and yes we love spoiling this cat .

  • GREAT LESSON, AGAIN. Please post one about soloing JAZZ BLUES. Please keep posting lessons for us mere mortals. Hello from Brazil. CB

  • @bluejazzcat thankyou ! i've thought about doing that . but youtube only allows 10 minutes per video . i'll think about it but no promises

  • Great fantastic Lesson teacher Freddy.....Thank you so much....I'm truly grateful....

.....And I like the cat........So nice..!!!

  • @kikon88 thx ! i don't care if you like the lesson ! just as long as you like my cat ! LOL ! just kidding ! glad you like the lesson !

  • Hi Freddy your cat is lovely beautiful eyes, I love cats!.

  • hi amber123446 ! this is the most loving trusting spoiled cat i've ever known. he can't get enough attention . lol !

hope alls well in florida !

  • Still another GREAT and informative lesson from the MAIN man !!! Thank you so much for what you do in here freddie, not just the lessons, but your great covers too.

I have a question, is it a bad idea on the G13 you have demonstrated in here to use the index finger to bar the four strings on the third fret as apposed to the index and second finger the way you have it drawn out ?

    thanks again !!!

  • thx for the nice comment BoojWaZEE ! if it's easier for you to barre the 3rd fret, then you have my written permission to do it that way.it is another way to make it. as long as you can get all the notes nice and clear,it doesn't matter what fingers you use on any chord. unless your playing strict classical guitar.

  • u are the man

  • thank you very much MattRad610 !

  • As a blues player I would frequently use a slide from a Cmaj7 to a Bmaj7 on the G section (top 4 strings only) with similar trciks for the C and D sections. Not sure if that's used much in Jazz but it's a nice effect. The D7#9 shape we always called the Hendrix chord as he used it so often (to great effect). I must concur with your wise views on not stepping on the toes of other musicians - something a lot of piano players seem to forget :) .. As usual great stuff.

  • @DaveBluesManFaulkner yes. after losing a couple jobs early on, getting in everybody's way,i wised up and quit trying to play lead backup. lol !

  • once again Freddy, than you for all your posts! I'm having to diversify into jazz to get more work - your vids are a great help. ~Dori

  • @duendesoul thx Dori ! your already a fantastic flamenco player ! so jazz should be a piece of cake for you !

  • i call that 'jamming' and dont really know what 'comp' means

  • @pointypencil1 if you go to google and type in comping you'll find lots of stuff on comping

  • great lesson

  • glad you like it vheadfacelegs !

  • hey Freddy, think you could figure out the rhythm guitar for the "Hey Arnold" theme? Just type in "hey arnold theme" in the searchbar to listen to the song.

  • @NinetiesYouth lol, why would freddy care about 'hey arnold'? they're two different generations!

  • @pointypencil1 It's a good song...c'mon, figure it out for me

  • hi freddy, this little lesson is so very usefull!a great intro into how to think what you play whilst comping soloists,an area often overlooked!thanks

  • \thx muzmix123 ! comping is very important .

  • As always Thank you! Freddy the comping lesson is great you take alot of the confussion out of Jazz.(music)I hope to heard more comping or chord melody lessons...its the concepts that enlighten .....thank you...

  • thx thunderb4 ! it's always nice to know that someone likes the lessons !

  • you are un chat jazzscat very nice MERCI POUR VOS LECONS a+

  • thankyou for the nice comment LAURENTGIANEZ57 !

  • Freddy you are a great teacher, Some great players can't teach. But I think its your down to earth aproach. My question is you dont do scales so when you do runs are you using a - Pentatonic, Dorian ect. or are you just following the cord that is played. Then mabey you just are doing what sounds good. So when you solo what are you doing?

  • thx GZ1LH2 ! i just play whats in my head.check my lesson #10 to the end.might explain it.

  • Great set of lessons Freddy! Thanks!

  • thx for comment TheEvilErk ! hope it helps

  • @freddym223 Quite a bit actually, I've been playing in jazz bands for a few years now, and the one thing I've been having trouble with is applying chord construction theory. You do a fantastic job of not only showing chord construction, but also how to apply them in interesting and improvisational ways.

  • Freddy thank you for aqll you do!! Like your baking track, can you recomend were to get similar ones?

    Joe

  • thx camano333 ! i make my own backup using "band in a box".

  • Thanks Freddy. What I really need is a CD with great swinging backing tracks on them for me to practice my comping and licks. I play swing blues mainly in Bb. It would be great if each track was about 5 or 6mins or longer so that we can really stretch out. Are you able to send such a CD and how much would it be? A great swinging jazz blues backing track in Bb at about 140-150bpm or different tempos coming in between 5-10 minutes long would be perfect. Any joy Freddy and thanks.

  • thx jmsbk12345 ! i wrote you

  • Wahey! A bit of practice of this on Sunday afternoon... I'm sounding like the Freddy ! - not lookin quite so cool tho'

  • thx useryug ! i can teach the chords, but not how to look as cool as me .lol! take care Barry and Cristina !

  • GOOD LESSON FREDDY. STAYING OUT OF THE WAY IS GREAT ADVICE!! IF YOU DON"T GET OUT OF THE WAY, SOME KEYBOARD PLAYER WILL HIT YOU WITH A STICK,

    allen

  • thx carvetop01 ! don't want that :-(

  • Hope you do some more lessons like this Freddy.

  • thx mraggrovator ! glad you like it !

  • Hi Freddy, I´m feeling quite at home in this lesson, quite similar to the way I do it everyday;-) Don´t bother the bass-player, that´s right! You´re so right. I read that Freddie (!!!) Green always played the chords without disturbing the bass, as his special trademark. The king of rhythm-guitar, never a solo. great lesson!

    Cheers, Frank

  • thx LONGWINDING ! i appreciate your proffessional input !

  • Great lesson, sounds great.

  • Always great Freddy. You are a fine teacher.

  • Very nice! Just heading to bed, and saw this. Now I've been up having TOO much fun with your lesson. Thanks though - love these "practical" lessons! I've been trying to decide on blues, jazz, rock, or acoustic playing. With your help I am leaning heavily to the Jazz side. (I am a sax player, so really appreciate this stuff!)

  • thx dfwjag ! sorry i kept you up past your bed time :-(

  • Another great lesson......... Id have to watch these even if I didnt play guitar.

    Good job Freddy.. thanks

  • thx greatvanzinni ! know that this lesson works at the proffessional level

  • Hi freddy, I have a question: a basic blues progression uses I for the first four bars. I noticed for some progressions (like yours) it's I, IV, I, I. Is that a jazz blues progression? For example if I joined up with a jazz band and they said let's jam F blues, then everyone would know that the basic progression is always F7, Bb7, F7, F7 for the first four bars? I hope that question makes sense. Thanks!!

  • play 1-4-1-1 origamihell ! 1-1-1-1 is too old and corny.needs some movement !

  • @freddym223 Thanks freddy. More movement and no corn! Got it ;)

  • Excellent! See you in the Town Square sometime. K

  • two cool cats : )

  • thx echo680 ! and thx for favorites !

  • Wow!

My Tiglet reckons your cat's a bit of a looker, and Cristina says he's a nice big cutie too.

And hello to your kitty!! My 3 are also very spoiled.

  • thx for taking the time to comment origamihell !

  • Well I dont play guitar Freddy (Steve would say "thank goodness"!) but I know a good player when I hear one and you are a very nice man as well. See you in the Town Square. K

  • thx Karen ! and i know a good singer when i hear one !

  • Freddy

Great video for us beginners! I will watch this one for sure. You make this progression look so effortless. Thanks for the great lesson.

Your cat looks like it loves attention. Your affection for the feline in question is also evident too.

    Rich

  • Fabulous video lesson Sir Freddy! Most enjoyed! Cheers indeed! P.S He/she looks a happy cat!

  • thx EdMuirton ! hes very spoiled and loveable ! thats the way we like him :-)

  • Good lesson freddy, I like this minimalistic approach not getting in the soloist's way, it's true and also leaving room for the bass man,I like the G7-13 here that Eb note resolving nicely to the D note of C9,that's the Stuff man. Very useful for both Jazz and Blues players, cheers amigo,Vic.

  • thx for your welcome and informative input Jazzguts ! loved your last lesson amigo !

  • Excellent video. Thank you for putting in the work to do this.

  • thankyou for listening Edustin !
