Sorry it's a continuation of last post sir I am not use to read tabs I always play by my ear. Can u plz help me to build a chord circle for scale in jazz so that if I play a chord solo I first try chords nested in my scale. Please help. God bless n eagerly waiting for reply
@11kerol i am not sure i understand your question.sorry but i don't think of scales and all that stuff when i play chord solos. i just play the melody on the first and second string and stack notes under it that sound good to me.
Hello sir it's me again. Sir i have been trying ur lessons they are absolute wonder thanks I learnt my first jazz song thanks to ur lessons and tab for white Christmas. I have one concern when I play normal music that is diatonic scale eg c maj. Chords I use is C/F/G/Am/Em/Dm or E. If I play song in c maj scale these are the chords fall in to it and if any other chord is there it's accidental chord. But with jazz how do I build my chord circle as we do in normal music. Because I am not use to r
Hi freddy great lessons how can I add base note to the chords. You are a wonderful teacher and person it's a pleasure to see u always keep posting more lessons all ur lessons are my fav can u recommend some songs I can download and learn thanks n god bless
@11kerol thx ! just add the root on the 5th or 6th string for the bass note . for the D9 just add the D note 5th string .for G13 add the G note 6th string etc. i would recommend learning any of the tunes on my channel.
Nice to find your channel I was hooked from the big G13 diagram, it said no nonsense clarity. On a whole a lot of fun and very useful so thanks.keep up the good work
very good lesson! thank you! one thing you don't hear very often and new players should know is that to be a great musician, you must be a great human being, and that means first and foremost to respect life. Watching you spoil your cat, and your connection, i'm not surprised at your skill ! You are inspiring !
Still another GREAT and informative lesson from the MAIN man !!! Thank you so much for what you do in here freddie, not just the lessons, but your great covers too.
I have a question, is it a bad idea on the G13 you have demonstrated in here to use the index finger to bar the four strings on the third fret as apposed to the index and second finger the way you have it drawn out ?
thx for the nice comment BoojWaZEE ! if it's easier for you to barre the 3rd fret, then you have my written permission to do it that way.it is another way to make it. as long as you can get all the notes nice and clear,it doesn't matter what fingers you use on any chord. unless your playing strict classical guitar.
As a blues player I would frequently use a slide from a Cmaj7 to a Bmaj7 on the G section (top 4 strings only) with similar trciks for the C and D sections. Not sure if that's used much in Jazz but it's a nice effect. The D7#9 shape we always called the Hendrix chord as he used it so often (to great effect). I must concur with your wise views on not stepping on the toes of other musicians - something a lot of piano players seem to forget :) .. As usual great stuff.
hey Freddy, think you could figure out the rhythm guitar for the "Hey Arnold" theme? Just type in "hey arnold theme" in the searchbar to listen to the song.
As always Thank you! Freddy the comping lesson is great you take alot of the confussion out of Jazz.(music)I hope to heard more comping or chord melody lessons...its the concepts that enlighten .....thank you...
Freddy you are a great teacher, Some great players can't teach. But I think its your down to earth aproach. My question is you dont do scales so when you do runs are you using a - Pentatonic, Dorian ect. or are you just following the cord that is played. Then mabey you just are doing what sounds good. So when you solo what are you doing?
@freddym223 Quite a bit actually, I've been playing in jazz bands for a few years now, and the one thing I've been having trouble with is applying chord construction theory. You do a fantastic job of not only showing chord construction, but also how to apply them in interesting and improvisational ways.
Thanks Freddy. What I really need is a CD with great swinging backing tracks on them for me to practice my comping and licks. I play swing blues mainly in Bb. It would be great if each track was about 5 or 6mins or longer so that we can really stretch out. Are you able to send such a CD and how much would it be? A great swinging jazz blues backing track in Bb at about 140-150bpm or different tempos coming in between 5-10 minutes long would be perfect. Any joy Freddy and thanks.
Freddy, Great lesson, very useful for me...an old Bluegrasser! I got interested in other music, primarily western swing, which leads me to jazz chords.

Hi Freddy, I´m feeling quite at home in this lesson, quite similar to the way I do it everyday;-) Don´t bother the bass-player, that´s right! You´re so right. I read that Freddie (!!!)
