hey hope you could reply to this comment, are u planning to film the new syllabus? cuz im going to take trinity drums grade 6 for 2011-2013 really soon and find your videos really useful. either way, keep up the good work and have a nice day:)
That was really good, better than i can play it. I like the sound of ya drum kit too. I'd say the only thing is ya double bass drum is a little to fast on some bits, but appart from that, it sounded perfect :)
Hi Billy - sorry I didn't reply earlier. Nope - I've checked this with one of the chief examiners on the Trinity Guildhall forum (hence the delay). Double pedals are allowed throughout the pieces in the upper grades (6-8).
But does that mean there will be one in the exam room, i remember when taking my grade 7 there was no double bass pedal, (i suppose you could bring your own??)
They definitely won't provide you with one but you are absolutely allowed to bring your own as long as the swap over doesn't interfere with the timings of the exams.
It does actually state "Double bass drum pedals may be used in solos and fills if desired" in the front of the 'Drum Kit 3' book. I don't think my teacher is aware that you actually can use a double pedal. Still, I'll be performing this piece at full tempo with just a single, despite owning a double pedal.
my exam is on wed this is my best piece in the set but sometimes i mess up on the 2nd and 3rd rythms (using a single kick) so i cut of a note in the pattern so it sounds more accurate than sloppy
If you can't get them in reliably, slow the piece down just a bit. The examiners are far more bothered about you being able to play the piece accurately and at a really steady tempo than going too fast and skipping bits. Also, when most of our students lost marks they were for ignoring dynamics so make sure you stick rigidly to these! However if you do miss the very odd beat don't sweat it - there are missed beats on the kick on the recording on the second page! Steady and dynamics!!
In total there are 6 tom pads (3 PD8s are on the far left just out of shot since I didn't need them for these videos) .
I also have six cymbal together with two snares (PD100 and PD85), kick (KD85), hi-hat (FH11) and another PD8 used for cowbells etc. I've now run out of inputs on both the main brain and the TMC-6!
It's designed to mimic my acoustic kit reasonably closely.
i dont know why they call this piece very metal i dont think its very metal at all really, the only part i think that resembles metal is the part at 1:47 but that is just my opinion but then i guess if they made it some mega crazy metal song it wouldnt be useable as a grade. this is one of my fav songs at the mo the drums are too hard really (havent tryed tho) but they fit awsomely with the song. less is more
I think, like you say, if they put in a realistic metal piece they'd stuggle to get it playable as a grade. Calling it Very Metal is a bit over the top but maybe Andy Gleadhill was a big fan of Viv in the Young Ones and got carried away! ;-) Not a bad piece to play though. It's one of the few Section B pieces (unaccompanied) pieces that sounds like you could be playing it to a real song - even if not a metal one!

The thing with this piece is that you can do the piece with a single pedal - it's just more "metal" to play double in my book! ;-)

is that a td20 or td12?

It's a TD12 with a TMC-6 input expansion.
