I wonder if anyone who watched this and felt like commenting has ever been in a car that's trying to spin.
It does the right thing. It's just a little slow. The vehicle's caster (in a rwd vehicle as tested here) will tend to make the wheels point in the direction that the car is going, at least up to a certain limit.
This video actually makes me want a wheel more. I wasn't aware the FF was that realistic. Would sure make driving the squirrely cars a little more possible... Very cool.
I have a g27 and this shows that FF wheels are not yet perfect, the G25 or G27 has a Dual Motor force feedback system that can kick out better than most wheels but other wheels like Fanatec GT2 has 3 FF motors which can kick out faster. The best FF wheel today is probably the Thrustmaster T500RS, that thing is a Beast! It feels like your hand is gonna be twisted. I drive a Lan Evo 6 in real life and the G27 is I think the best bang for buck wheel today.
Some PP dont know whats g-force on the wheel. If you good enougt and want precission and more realastic exp. you should learn driving 900* >In rFactor than you got to change steering lock between 35-45* and in L4S you should turn comprassion off to 0.And keep training and you gonna handle it and have much more fun.
After nearly 245.000 views and nearly as many people missing the point, I'm not going to try and explain things, but I do want to add that while far from 'professional', the G25 is still working now very near its 3rd anniversary and it (or the g27) is probably the most reliable and functional and best wheel you can buy as a home user. :)
@niels007007 reading the explaination , woulndt most people just put it in 300degrees mode cause that is like more standard for racing cars in real life too ? :p
I have bought the Logitech Gran Turismo steering wheel last time, and returned it.
When i let go of the wheel at 200km/h ingame (GT5:P), and touched it a little and let go, the force feedback started kicking the steer back and forth, until it turned 500 degrees. Most shitty FF ever. It just happened as soon as i let go of the wheel and FF kicked in...
@KiterTMK Err, what do you expect the car to do while you're driving that fast? To be as stable as a car thats standing still? Lol, sorry but you're going to be disappointed with just about every FF wheel because they all have the tendency to kick the steering back and forth when you're driving at such high speeds.
wheel axis sensitivity can be adjusted form the logitech profiler. thats if you havent tried that already. click on steering wheel, then click on axis properties when the box drops down. you should find some extra settings there. the clutch and brake also have similar settings. hope this helps if u havent tried it.
my G25 does this - when I turn hard (50+ degrees or so) and let go of the wheel, it starts to swing from one side to another violently, every swing travelling more to the side than the previous one - is this normal? It sure doesn˙t feel right, for example when I drive "slalom-like", I get no FFB resistance at all, I simply go with the swings...
hi, i am asking a favor from you. Could you download the German Truck Simulator Demo and give me a feedback. Because i want to know if this steering wheel will support this game. And if the shifter would be enough to support the speeds. Thanks!
hey this is actually very interesting. im thinking about getting the g25 or g27 for a long time and i tihink it´s worth the high price thanks for a very good video 5*
Whether the car corrects itself or not has nothing to do with the wheel, unless it is a non FFB cheapo wheel. The G25 is actually one of the fastest wheels but the self centering effect comes from the game itself and has to do with physics and car setup... It is a completely wrong way to test the wheel speed this.
I think this will be the same in every 900-degree steering wheel, the hardware may be effectively short on power to turn the wheel faster, but maybe they cannot make ir more powerful because of safety. In a real car, a too violent turn of the whel with could damage your hand or wrist if placed at the wrong place. If the simulation wheel where that way probably won't pass safety regulations, remember that childer could be using them in a, let's say, less proffesional manner thatn a gown-up guy...
what were u expecting it to do? straighten out after u made a hard jerk of the steering wheel then just let go. duh it was going to spin out. as in reality if u did that u can bet your car wouldn't straighten out for you. u would end up in a wall not "miraculously" driving straight again. i see what ur testing but your comment boxes dont make sense its a sim so u should be happy the wheel reacts like that NOW if the wheel automatically went back straight then theres a problem.
I got an email from Youtube saying the video got popular. Yet its the most boring one I uploaded ever! Did I accidentally put 'porn and titties' in the search tags?? :)
@niels007007, playing a car simulation with a wheel is much more exciting than watching porn flicks! ;-P... Actually your clip is rare, its the sole one I've seen where somebody took the time to SHOW different setting behaviors with a wheel. Thx a lot. By the way, I have the Logitech DrivingForce GT on PC. I left my settings in the Logitech Control Panel to 900 deg. : with Dirt3 default settings it's perfect; with Need For Speed Shift, Wheel Lock = 30%-45% and steering dead zone = 0%.
Have you considered using the same steering ratio in each different degrees rotation? I think with the same steering ratio, simulation would be the same
Are Logitech wheels only for the pc and PS3/PS2? Has there been any that were compatible with the 360? I wanted to play GRID with this, but only have the 360 version.
Does the real Corvette steering wheel have a 900 Degree rotation? Do you ever use more than 300 Deg. while racing? (and if so, Why are you so off course that you need to do so?) Would a real Corvette normally do donuts, if you jammed on the accelerator while the wheel was or was not turned? (and if so, Why would you implement a sort of stability control system to correct this real world action of the car?) and lastly, Do you normally let go of the racing wheel in the middle of high speed race?
The Corvette sucks. The usual wheel rotation in racing is 540 degreeds. The reason he is donuting around on the carpark is because he is showing the physics of the game. And a corvette probably would do some donuts if you floor it without holding the wheel.
i actually think the corvettes do have 900 degree rotation, not positive but reasonable sure. and you very well might use more than 300 while racing, ie counter-steering so you dont go off course...or at an autocross event or drifting etc. and yes, a real corvette would start to do donuts if you punched the throttle. even if the ground was 100% flat because of the nature of torque of spinning objects. and finally he let go of the wheel cuz he was testing the force feedback in his damn g25!
I'm not really understanding this. How much of this is the wheel itself and how much is the game's physics engine? Also, the how big is the wheel? I'm looking at getting one of these sometime in the future...just want to be sure I guess.
i bought a speedlink racing wheel ive installed it but when i plug the steering wheel in it sais cannot install hardware can anyone help me many thanks if you can
The 1st game is called Live for Speed, it's one of the most realistic games on the world now, maybe even the most realistic... you can compare it with iRacing, but iRacing is expensive as hell and their licence system is just stupid... like you pay for each track etc. and it has not cars, only the Pontiac... LFS has road cars, gtr cars, formulas, cart... the other game in the video is rFactor, which is more like an arcade.. strange grip, strange force feedback, milions of mods....
people.. stop complaining about the tech stuff. this vid is pretty good... I like to get get the most realistic games i can get! i never knew that a game whell actuaaly did that...
Are there any wheels that do have what it takes to react as it should? I'm in the process of buying a wheel, and the G25 is the biggest contender so far.
well there is the fanatec steering wheels but id hurry up because there limited edition but there around 400 bucks....................................but those wheels are movin so get them before they go
the less of a degree setting you put it on, the less realistic it becomes. real steering wheels have a 900 degree range of motion on them so if the simulated steering wheel has the same motion range it's going to react like a real steering wheel. just like your 900 degree tests, REAL CARS DON'T CORRECT THEMSELVS!!!! And it's not wierd that it turns itself, it does that in real life because of the force of friction on the tires causing them to turn. Newton's third law equal and opposite reactions
I can see what you're saying, but when they nudged the wheel a little bit, it should have wobbled and centered at that speed because when the wheels are not scrubbing or sliding they will always pull the wheel to the center. This vid is showing that the motors are too slow to provide this accurately
we're not shooting for complete reality here and also, the wheel will probably only correct itself when in an easy or novice mode. please don't turn into one of those guys on youtube thats just a dick only to be considered a dick. If you think you can create something better please create it and show it to the world with youtube but if u cant then dont criticize. Thanks!
wtf i set that up ages ago and it wasnt working properly.. i tried aboslutely everything to get the wheel workin rite on the steering but it wouldnt , got any tips?? i was using demo version
the reason 300 degrees corrects easier is because at 300 degrees with the wheel, the game has the wheels in the car turned all the way as if u were using 900 degrees, 900 degrees is much more realistic to how a car would react in real life. good video though, i would use the 900 for realistic reasons though
I dont really see what this test proves, this game is a simulator.. In real life if your spinning out you dont let go of the wheel do you? Or when you set off, you dont let go of the wheel.. lmfao
OK! I dnt knw much bout dese wheels but i had a BMW325i E30 which is a fairly powrfuI RWD & I knw a little from Xperience. I cnt help but notice dat most of u r confused wen it cums 2driving physics. 1stly ur statement about da wheel not keeping up wit da sim is completely incorrect as da wheel is merely an input device for you to tell the sim what you want it to do the sim has no influence on what the wheel duz. 2ndly a real car wnt react dat way! Out of characters will explain in next comment.
Hey man, I completely understand what you're getting at with this test. Apparently, most of the people leaving comments have never driving a high HP RWD vehicle. Or at least a RWD in the snow, for fun's sake. Anyway, thanks for this. I was contemplating building a little simulator of my own and was doing some research on wheels when I found this video. Good Info to know. =D
Good day all, I noticed that most of you are a little confused. I had a BMW 325i E30 which is a fairly powerful RWD and know a little something about driving physics aswell as physics in generaI, however dont know much about these wheels but I know it pushes back with a force in the opposite direction of which the player turns It's therefore impossible to accurately depict real driving conditions. A real car doesn't react the way the 1 demonstrated reacted.
at 4:00 when you say it cant steer itsself fast enough, that is what would happen in a real car. if i driver wants to recover a spin he doesnt simply let go of the wheel and let it recover. but its nice to see the thing working as im looking to get a logitech wheel for my pc soon! I recon though watching your vid the whole way through the 900 degre mode is the best. =D
it doesn't when you just drive straight, but imagine if you let go of the wheel in a corner, the wheel will straighten by itself.. (and you would crash..) :)
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
THIS IS REDICULUS
That test is stupid because you try to start with a rear wheel driving or 4 wheel driving car when you have the sreering wheel full turned and that happends in reality with cars
OMG TRY TO LEARN SOMETHING ABOYT DRIVING BEFORE POST THIS USELESS COMPLAIN VIDEO ABOYT THE STEERING WHEEL
hey! leave the poor guy alone! i simply thought it was interesting that the wheel moves by itself in a video game.... i see what ur saying, but it's a video game, NOT reality. put your head on straight before you say something you don't want to say. this has nothing to do w/ reality.
Good tests, and interesting information to know. It seems that although the wheel is great, there's still scope for improvement. That said, are there any tests of other wheels and how they cope with the same circumstances?
It's a shame that this otherwise good wheel could actually make it harder to control a car.
you have these views because many people are interested in that wheel but it is too expensive for many, so they may never going to buy but still nice to know something about.

every thing is expensive in our country, so we go shopping in paragay, where the g25 costs about 250 dollars.
here in brazil we pay a lot of taxes.
for example: in brazil, a toyota corolla costs 75000 reais, or 41667 dollars.
in the usa it costs 19000 dollars, or 34200 reais.
more than 50% of the price are taxes.

It's obvious that, using the same steering lock, the behaviour of the steering wheel will be diferent with 300, 600 or 900 degrees.
There is a thing called steering ratio, and it changes with the ratio between the steering wheel lock and the steering lock in car setup.

question: while i play... do i look how my car follows the wheel? no!
davorsertic 2 years ago
I'm not really understanding this. How much of this is the wheel itself and how much is the game's physics engine? Also, the how big is the wheel? I'm looking at getting one of these sometime in the future...just want to be sure I guess.

u know wen it turns by itself, is it supposed to do that?, if so, is it realistic like do cars actualy do that if u let go of the wheel?

real cars dont correct themselves so this video is stupid, why did you tested that do you think a car correct itself in a situation like this?

The 1st game is called Live for Speed, it's one of the most realistic games on the world now, maybe even the most realistic... you can compare it with iRacing, but iRacing is expensive as hell and their licence system is just stupid... like you pay for each track etc. and it has not cars, only the Pontiac... LFS has road cars, gtr cars, formulas, cart... the other game in the video is rFactor, which is more like an arcade.. strange grip, strange force feedback, milions of mods....
Mike0256 2 years ago
people.. stop complaining about the tech stuff. this vid is pretty good... I like to get get the most realistic games i can get! i never knew that a game whell actuaaly did that...

what car were u using?
BigBossDrifter 2 years ago
Are there any wheels that do have what it takes to react as it should? I'm in the process of buying a wheel, and the G25 is the biggest contender so far.
SpeedFreakNO 2 years ago
SpeedfreakNO,
Yes but you'll have to spend upwards of $1500 US The G25 is the biggest bang for the buck
roji556 2 years ago
ive heard talk of a G27 coming out, you may want to look into that and maybe wait.

U should definitely buy the g25

i totally understand what you were trying to do here but you can do the same (have the car straighten itself) with setup changes.

Life For Speed, I think
fran1244 2 years ago
the less of a degree setting you put it on, the less realistic it becomes. real steering wheels have a 900 degree range of motion on them so if the simulated steering wheel has the same motion range it's going to react like a real steering wheel. just like your 900 degree tests, REAL CARS DON'T CORRECT THEMSELVS!!!! And it's not wierd that it turns itself, it does that in real life because of the force of friction on the tires causing them to turn. Newton's third law equal and opposite reactions
Tman64general 2 years ago 2
I can see what you're saying, but when they nudged the wheel a little bit, it should have wobbled and centered at that speed because when the wheels are not scrubbing or sliding they will always pull the wheel to the center. This vid is showing that the motors are too slow to provide this accurately
tom2215 2 years ago
we're not shooting for complete reality here and also, the wheel will probably only correct itself when in an easy or novice mode. please don't turn into one of those guys on youtube thats just a dick only to be considered a dick. If you think you can create something better please create it and show it to the world with youtube but if u cant then dont criticize. Thanks!

wtf i set that up ages ago and it wasnt working properly.. i tried aboslutely everything to get the wheel workin rite on the steering but it wouldnt , got any tips?? i was using demo version
mopasaurus 2 years ago
actually, if you have a steering servo it corrects it self. like on new cars
Xzibit588 2 years ago
the reason 300 degrees corrects easier is because at 300 degrees with the wheel, the game has the wheels in the car turned all the way as if u were using 900 degrees, 900 degrees is much more realistic to how a car would react in real life. good video though, i would use the 900 for realistic reasons though

Which car you driving in LFS???

bc3racing 2 years ago 7
Good day all, I noticed that most of you are a little confused. I had a BMW 325i E30 which is a fairly powerful RWD and know a little something about driving physics aswell as physics in generaI, however dont know much about these wheels but I know it pushes back with a force in the opposite direction of which the player turns It's therefore impossible to accurately depict real driving conditions. A real car doesn't react the way the 1 demonstrated reacted.
riyaad2 2 years ago
at 4:00 when you say it cant steer itsself fast enough, that is what would happen in a real car. if i driver wants to recover a spin he doesnt simply let go of the wheel and let it recover. but its nice to see the thing working as im looking to get a logitech wheel for my pc soon! I recon though watching your vid the whole way through the 900 degre mode is the best. =D

have you tried this test with other wheels???

why does the wheel move by itself? thats sort of..weird
1spoonand2forks 2 years ago
it doesn't when you just drive straight, but imagine if you let go of the wheel in a corner, the wheel will straighten by itself.. (and you would crash..) :)

THIS IS REDICULUS
That test is stupid because you try to start with a rear wheel driving or 4 wheel driving car when you have the sreering wheel full turned and that happends in reality with cars
OMG TRY TO LEARN SOMETHING ABOYT DRIVING BEFORE POST THIS USELESS COMPLAIN VIDEO ABOYT THE STEERING WHEEL

can only think. 1 = you got a crappy wheel that doesnt have 900 deg. 2= you got no pc that CAN play racinggames.
3= you're just playing stupid.
Advice ? Stop bitching !!!
Its a test for the wheel whit full lock, and whats he doing is right. 900 doesnt work that good then lower degrees
bibbish 2 years ago 2
hey! leave the poor guy alone! i simply thought it was interesting that the wheel moves by itself in a video game.... i see what ur saying, but it's a video game, NOT reality. put your head on straight before you say something you don't want to say. this has nothing to do w/ reality.
pfpdoodlez2009 2 years ago 4
Good tests, and interesting information to know. It seems that although the wheel is great, there's still scope for improvement. That said, are there any tests of other wheels and how they cope with the same circumstances?
It's a shame that this otherwise good wheel could actually make it harder to control a car.
bigolslabomeat 2 years ago
you have these views because many people are interested in that wheel but it is too expensive for many, so they may never going to buy but still nice to know something about.
