this is an Australian television mini-series, called 'ANZACS' made in 1985, goes for 520 odd minutes, not a bad 'early' mini-series. it follows the 8th battalion of the A.I.F. (Australian Imperial Force) the shoulder patch, white over red, worn by soldiers of the 8th battalion was their identification patch, to them it was called 'blood and bandages' as taken from the colours. for a country of 4milion, we sent 330'000 troops overseas of whom 60% were casualties (60'000 dead and 166'000 wounded)
Am a retired combat specialist. Am a bit older than a few of you. Try to remember that respect of your comrades in arms is earned: worked with many pohm, aussie, kiwi, canuck, yanks, et cetera. All earned my respect. Even the fellas we were up against deserve respect. Only, because they were willing to put it on the line for what they believed, hey?
@tricepsish If you knew anything about the British Army in so far as how it operated and was used throughout history, you'd realize that black and white approach you have there is utter bollocks.
@wisetrucker yeah. A good navy is about it to your former big empire. Defeating wooden chinese junks, and with your last real total naval victorious under Nelson's days lol/
@tricepsish So the Empire was won at sea, nothing to do with armies on land in your small brain. And Trafalgar was not the last victory of the navy, but I'll let you think it was. LOL
@tecna64 You are right in some ways, this scene simplifies the battle. The German Spring Offensives lasted over four months and they were not stopped as easily as this. Nor were the Anzacs the only ones who stopped them, all of the Allied armies- British, French, Canadian, South African, Anzac- played a major role. This scene makes the battle look more like Mons in 1914 than the March Offensive of 1918.
@tecna64 However, having said that, I still enjoy Anzacs. Its an entertaining series and I accept that dramatizations of history have to simplify and condense things for the sake of an enjoyable storyline that can be understood by all audiences. Also, this mini-series did not have an un-limited budget so they couldn't afford thousands of extras to make epic battle scenes.
Brave British...hahaha funny... peace time at action time for a cup of tea at 5pm.... :)
