what an exotic band the t-birds . stuff like this was like your cool white trash guys who were doing all that crazy stuff back in the late 40's and 50' all the way up to the early 60's in them citys, big town, small nite clubs all around the usa.
this song is on the album "girls go wild" btw, keith ferguson was fired from the band due to heroin addiction. The t birds used to play the rome in every monday night for blue monday and the cover was $1.50. Johnny Winter showed up one night and just blew everyone (about 60 people) away. rip original t'birds, stevie and keith......and the rome inn
i saw tbirds play at dingwalls 1980 jimmie had his leg in plaster up to the top. he just came on with crutches, said owt about it and played a total blinder through two pro reverbs. blew me away at the age oif 15. a friend chris thomson was playing bass in the support band the small brothers or small bros. cant remember. but they went on to become 'motor boys motor' and a bit influential a few years later in an underground sort of way.i dont remember seeing this clip for that reason, no jimmie!
Great! - got all their albums up 'til Keith Furguson left the band...seen 'em live London and NYC....Saw them in London at Dingwalls, a week after Muddy - and they tore-up the place.
If I remember rightly, Jimmie Vaughan had just broken his leg in London which is why he wasn't on the show. I remember seeing this on TV at the time! I caught the T-Birds at The Marquee a few months later - completely changed my view of how music could be made. What a cool band!!
Ummm everyone who knows their blues knows the Fabulous Thunderbirds--Kim Wilson, Jimmy Lee Vaughn, Fran Christina, Preston Hubbard. Thanks for posting.
i had this song on a blues sampler that my dad showed to me at a very young age. most clandestine thing to hear when you're 5. this song is fucking AMAZING!! love that honky tonk 50s feel, great in the late 80s with all that post-punk. BOY do i love growing up with blues, even classier than all the rock it turned into....
Wow, the great Billy Bremner from Rockpile on guitar. He also played the great lead guitar part on the Pretenders Back to Ohio (My City was Gone). He's one of the few British guitarists that really stayed true to authentic American roots music. People like him, Dave Edmunds and Albert Lee are so important for turning people people on to "the real thing".
@tomthefunky well said hombre, this is such a great example. Billy used to drink in my uncles pub and i have a Rockpile album with all their signatures on it and no it aint for sale!!!!!! love and peace.
Keith Ferguson was such a great bass player, this guy had THE groove ! I've seen him live, some years later with The Tailgators, he was already sick but it didn't had no influence, he did it very good. Thanks for this post.
This is fine archive. Years ago, I dreamed of the day when all material like this would surface. There must have been billions of clips on dusty old shelves, especially in the Beeb. Now the day is here. I have an audio recording on cassette of this. Jimmie was in hospital with a broken leg, happened just before they were due to record this and Rockpile's guitarist, who's name escapes me now, stepped in. They went on to play the Hope and Anchor with Martin Belmont in for Jimmie
ATX baby!!

Keith was just helping out.
Keith and Jimmy later made things right, before Keith passed away.
He was a good friend to me.
