  • I thought the point of the modern clothes was that it's imagining if Thrace had been based in a Victorian type of era.

  • if your wondering why Oedipus is wearing a suit, it is because instead of being historically accurate, they are being symbolic. if it was historically accurate, he would be wearing robes, but by having him in a suit, the modern audience can identify him as having power and being the king.

  • Can somebody summarize what Oedipus is saying from 3:35-5:07. He talks too fast for me to understand all of it. I'm a little confused. Can someone help me?

  • Thank you so much! I have to read this play for school and watching this really really really really helps me! Thanks again!!!

  • kevin = boss

  • WOAH, HOWDry dis man has got nothing on my boo BEE

  • the movie, and people commenting on the story really helps me and others understand the story. Thank u!

  • I used to have this play on VHS, and i watched it again and again. This was my favorite scene. This is one of the greatest channels on YOUTUBE!

  • Everyone knows Mystics and seeing the future is real right? I can't give you the book on how to do this because I know it to be an abomination unto our (the) God. But I can say that if you study history enough you sure learn a lot of neat stuff that most people are just plain ignorant to. Have fun, study history.

  • Giegud is superb, this is a fantastic scene

  • thumbs up if you're watching this for some sort of school project or essay!

  • @grafftutorials Yep, that sums up my story, LOL.

  • John Gielgud was a great actor

  • thanx for posting! studying this play right now and this was helpful.

  • I like the look of the incarnation of Oedipus. It reminds me of the modernization of Richard III with Ian McKellan.

  • I personally think the suit makes him look really cool.

  • OH MY GAWD!!!! I adore Teiresias. I loved the way he spoke from 8:00 to 9:02.. I am just reading this for school.. THX so much for putting this here, I really needed it....

  • LOLZ

I love this scene both reading it and watching it here.

    Oh, and Oedipus, nice suit.

  • i like thissss .. read it multiple times ;)

  • Is this Teiresias also the same Teiresias who was a Theban seer who was changed into a woman and back into a man?

  • oedipus is a douche

  • It's fantastic !

Sophocles' understanding of human condition is maybe greater than that of many great philosophers.

I cannot stop to see that piece, especially that part.

    Great actors also !

    Thanks You!

  • he used too much the space in the stage..

  • people need to get over hes wearing a suit, i think ive spotted 40 ppl say it. who caaaaaares

  • @adampopov1987 WOW Oedipus is wearing a suit. Does not match the time period

  • @adampopov1987 Well it is a little distracting. Give 'em a break. However, his acting is great so it doesn't matter what he wears once you follow his story.

  • @adampopov1987 omygod he's wearing a suit.

  • Why is a king from an ancient Greek city wearing a modern-day business suit?

  • Teiresias is a reallyyy good actor

  • I dont like this oedipus

  • what's the blind guy's name?

  • TEIRESIAS

  • Marvelous. GO, Sir John!

  • there were no suits at da tym ryt??

  • Man its very interesting. Tiresias is very weird but he knows the future. Opedius better wake up and try to remember what he did instead of pretending like he don't know.

  • Quack!

  • It's themes are timeless. I can't believe it has held it so well over time since 500 BC. Amazing!

  • i have to do this at school, what a great performance it is although they adapted it.

i play the blind seer so this has helped me heaps! thanks for posting

  • How'd your play go?

  • great actors especially gielgud..

  • Does anyone have The War of the Roses, also starring Michael Pennington?

  • I do! And I have no idea how to digitize my tapes.

  • Spectacular.

  • Michael Pennington

  • Who's playing Oedipus?

  • What a thrilling performance by Gielgud!
