Asuka chooses to be the test pilot for the new Eva instead of Rei so that Rei can go to her dinner party which happens to be on the same day as the testing for Eva-03.

@Generation941 it's not blood, it's actually LCL. and i know LCL should be orange but they do look like blood sometimes. you should see Rei's experiment that gone wrong scene where the LCL looked like blood.
She might be dead. In the 3.0 preview the Asuka you see in it has Bandages on her suit in the exact same place where she was hit by the MP EVA's in End of Evangelion. So the Asuka in 3.0 might be Soryu from the series and Shikinami from Rebuild might be dead.

She has become Naked Asuka(As in Big Boss not necessarily naked) and will have some action with Solid Shinji in Rebuild 3.0 with Liquid and Unit 00 returns as Metal Gear Rei(And she will fight Shinji about Shinji having Yui's Dominant Genes and she receiving the recessive genes) and Big Bossuka will claim that her Eva is 3x faster and that the Eva's work because of the Quantum brainwaves and SEELE wants to drop the moon on earth and turn everyone into a newtype and Unit 01 will use the Type F...
thats the importance behind him saving rei at the end, it's something as a redemption for him, he didn't do anything to save asuka and we all know how well that worked, and he doesn't want that to happen again (though his efforts does begin the end of the world, but take what u can get)

In this one Shinji ACTUALLY defends himself from beng choked just for the Mech to Produce more Arms. Also the Dummy Plug Censors the monitors so Shini can't see the horror in this Series. Also to the way the entry plug was Bitten into pieces while it was Broken with the Eva's Hand. Anno is over his Depression and to see his work in depth like this is Amazing yet Twisted as ever
I don't understand, why didn't Gendo stop EVA 01 from crushing Asuka's plug? Even if the goal was to completely destroy (and eviscerate to unholy hell) EVA02, he should have disabled the program when the plug was in EVA 01's mouth.

basicly it's to see how far the dummy system goes, gendo don't care for asuka mainly he only needs unit 01, shinji and rei, she's basically a sacrifice. on a side note, bridel in rebuild is a combination of 3 angels from the original series, infected unit 03, the virus angel (infected nerv directly, no evas in that "fight"), and the light bird (infiltrated asuka's mind with it's ray of light)
@Lyiad The Angel was the blue goo around the plug; perhaps one couldn't destroy it without crushing the plug. You could just be overthinking the thought process of a madman, though ;)

I don't get all the fuss about the music vs. the scene. Anno's not the first to do it. I remember a movie from about 15 years ago that had "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" playing during a big shootout while a 6-year-old kid's trying to get through the crossfire.
WHY IS THERE A RAINBOW!?! As if things weren't horrible enough with the song...but now whenever something dies....We get rainbows....they really went all out to make everything that much more disconcerting...< understatement!
@smashniggas Depending on which way Anno takes Rebuild, It can be innfered that the Rebuild series is a big F U to all the AsukaxShinji supporters. If that's the case, I will be dissapoint.
@J0EZOMBIE Asuka pilots 02 at the beginning but gets switched over to 03 when they have to lock up 02. Toji gets lucky this time and doesn't have to pilot any of the evas (so far...)
What makes this horrifying yet awesome is the fact that Anno was happy and not depressed during work on the Rebuild. Goodness, that scene really makes me stomach churn.
watching this always made me cry either it was with toji or asuka. it makes me feel so sorry for shinji but i think the episodes were way worse tho since shinji could only watch while toji's eva was being ripped apart begging his father to stop and that he would fight, and all his father says is 'this wouldnt have happened if you had just faught back.' his dads a total ass.
I'm aware she doesn't actually die but Shinji at least believes he has killed her she is even shown later in the film to still be alive when her entry plug is salvaged and Ritsuko comments that due to the possibility of mental contamination she cant be treated for her injuries.Indeed the trailer for the next film shows her to have seemingly recovered. I called this Asuka dies as that is what appears to have happened in this scene atleast.

@sickVisionz it doesn't make it comical. if anything, it makes it MORE disturbing. the contrast of the innocence of the folk song and the brutality of what's going on really accentuates the horror of the event. also, "j-pop folk song" is a contradiction. if it's a folk song, it's not pop.

basicly it's to see how far the dummy system goes, gendo don't care for asuka mainly he only needs unit 01, shinji and rei, she's basically a sacrifice. on a side note, bridel in rebuild is a combination of 3 angels from the original series, infected unit 03, the virus angel (infected nerv directly, no evas in that "fight"), and the light bird (infiltrated asuka's mind with it's ray of light)

@Lyiad I thought the same but the plug was contaminated, how could you be sure asuka wasnt the one infected with the angel, or the entry plug itself was corrupted by the blue gum looking fluid, also how could they know the angel wasnt inside the entry plug.

I don't get all the fuss about the music vs. the scene. Anno's not the first to do it. I remember a movie from about 15 years ago that had "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" playing during a big shootout while a 6-year-old kid's trying to get through the crossfire.

@J0EZOMBIE Asuka pilots 02 at the beginning but gets switched over to 03 when they have to lock up 02. Toji gets lucky this time and doesn't have to pilot any of the evas (so far...)

watching this always made me cry either it was with toji or asuka. it makes me feel so sorry for shinji but i think the episodes were way worse tho since shinji could only watch while toji's eva was being ripped apart begging his father to stop and that he would fight, and all his father says is 'this wouldnt have happened if you had just faught back.' his dads a total ass.

I'm aware she doesn't actually die but Shinji at least believes he has killed her she is even shown later in the film to still be alive when her entry plug is salvaged and Ritsuko comments that due to the possibility of mental contamination she cant be treated for her injuries.Indeed the trailer for the next film shows her to have seemingly recovered. I called this Asuka dies as that is what appears to have happened in this scene atleast.

I hate what they did to this scene in the 2.x. Soft j-pop folk songs make the scene comical when it isn't supposed to be silly at all. Also, Asuka doesn't die from this. All that happened was that she lost (or just injured) her eye youtube.com/watch?v=5PC8kvM-Uxg

@sickVisionz it doesn't make it comical. if anything, it makes it MORE disturbing. the contrast of the innocence of the folk song and the brutality of what's going on really accentuates the horror of the event. also, "j-pop folk song" is a contradiction. if it's a folk song, it's not pop.
