No US rating agency ever will downgrade the AAA-rating of the US-government, because it would be seen as a hostile financial terroristic attack. The CIA has already warned off Moody's. Consequently the agency withdrew its threat to lower its rating and officially states "US can keep its AAA-rating - no matter what happens".

In a sense you are saying that we avoid default by not paying to domestic programs, simply canceling them to avoid paying them. Even Peter Schiff does not put the emphasis where it should be. The truth is that if we continue to borrow the intrest on the borrowing continues to go up. Eventually the intrest is going to be so high that no matter what we do we won't be able to pay it. At that point the folks that will be starving will be those folks benefitting from the current entitlements. Any pain now is much better than the result of continuing to put the fix off.

No US rating agency ever will downgrade the AAA-rating of the US-government, because it would be seen as a hostile financial terroristic attack. The CIA has already warned off Moody's. Consequently the agency withdrew its threat to lower its rating and officially states "US can keep its AAA-rating - no matter what happens".
This is a very important point, since a AA-rating would cause more costs for the US than the 9/11-attacks - and even more people would die from such a rating.

In a sense you are saying that we avoid default by not paying to domestic programs, simply canceling them to avoid paying them. How is that not defaulting? saying "we will no longer send out Social Security checks because we are cutting Social Security" has exact same effect as "we won't pay Social Security because we have no money."

Even Peter Schiff does not put the emphasis where it should be. The truth is that if we continue to borrow the intrest on the borrowing continues to go up. Eventually the intrest is going to be so high that no matter what we do we won't be able to pay it. At that point the folks that will be starving will be those folks benefitting from the current entitlements. Any pain now is much better than the result of continuing to put the fix off.

The budget can be balanced by cutting the prison population back to Norwegian levels (you will need to redistribute wealth to get the crime down). @robertmike57 The reason the economy grew more when taxes were higher before 1981 and during the Clinton Administration is because higher taxes on the wealthy forces them to make business investments in order to drop their income levels come tax time. And that's how jobs grow. Our tax system is oriented towards the Entrepreneur, not the professional/working class. Tax cuts have never helped the economy. Why bother with biz investment when you can sit comfortably with lower taxes?
