  • Hey dude, love the video, very informative!

I need a suggestion for an audio interface. I want one which I can play normally with it (since I live in an apartment) and to record. I totally have no experience with these things so yeah x.x .

  • I can send you a message with a few suggestions however I also suggest looking up "Tweaks Guide" though google and read through that.

What do you mean by "play normally"...not sure what that's all about. An interface is just like a sound card but made to act fast and give more features for recording and playback.

  • Sorry for the confusion, well, I meant that I needed something that I could use for jamming at home and to record but uh, I think I got it now, I just didn't know their usability very well.

I'll look up that guide and message you if I still need help, thanks for answering :P

  • I got through that guide, very good stuff, but now that I know the technical stuff, I need something that can get me good tone and versatility. So far, I've been thinking in getting a line 6 pod studio ux2 because it comes with podfarm. But if you have something to suggest instead, feel free to do so ^^.

  • the Pod UX line is fair and I would say go with them...although if you can, try one out as I had the older version of the UX1 around 3 years ago and didn't really like the tone of the distortion models....although most modeling software just isn't anything outstanding.

The interface itself is ok although if you don't need all the inputs, go with the smaller UX1 to save money.

  • You mean the toneport? And yeah I agree with you, the newer ones distortion is more for very heavy stuff. I just hope that it comes with a software like podfarm.

  • yea the UX1 and UX2 are the Toneport series of product. I've yet to hear and try out the new Podfarm software, as I said before the one I had was years ago and hardly even worked with Vista but when it was working the sounds from the old Gearbox modeling program where only fair. I'll send you a link to a demo I did with the older Toneport and you can hear it for yourself.

  • Are you a mod for UG? Nice video I had no idea what so ever before I saw this.

  • No I'm not a mod there but do post there often. Glad you enjoyed the video

  • Thanks for the great video, it helps me alot

  • Hehe K thanks man... I'll just save up for a decent audio interface for when the infamous USB-dropout starts XD

  • Good video, USB has changed though. No experience with it, but USB 2.0 supports full multi-tracking :).

  • Man you remind me of SteveO

  • I can't say I really enjoyed that show much but ill take that as a compliment LOL

    Thanks for watching

  • @SonicOrbStudios nah man that guys a dead beat outta the show hes an asshole i remember in bams unholy union he tried breaking bamds showcase in vegas... before he tried he said " i love bam...but i can be jealous..." screw steveO

  • great video! one question though: im looking into getting a pod x3. if i get one of those and i want to record, do i also need to get a recording interface? thanks

  • Thanks

No the new Pod X3 can stream audio down the USB cable so you should not need an interface.

  • thanks for the quick reply. i go on UG a lot, my names "nutinpwnsgibson". i dont plan on getting a pod soon (i gotta get a new amp first), but one day im gonna try one out for some recording, because a lot of my friends have one for recording. i plan on hooking my pod x3 to the computer through USB for recording and setting changing on the computer, and i would hook the L and R outputs into my speakers with a Y cable. well, cheers!

  • If you plan on getting an amp and end up liking the tone of it I suggest not getting a POD. The POD is nice for people who don't have an amp or don't like the tone of their current amp...they can then dile in a sound and FX and record with that. If you like your amp and FX pedals go with a true audio interface, you can mic your amp and better yet, plug in a mic and get better results overall.

I'll keep an eye out for you on UG, if you have any other questions don's hesitate to ask.

  • well, i was thinking about that, but first of all, the mic + the recording interface would be at least half that the pod would cost, and also, another reason i wanted a pod was for practicing with headphones and being able to go to someone's house and record a demo without carrying a big amp and mic equipment and all that crap.

  • In that case the POD does look like a good setup. Good luck with the new gear when you get it. I look forward to your future recordings.

BTW my UG account is under moody07747 if you have not figured that out already.

  • Hey just a quick question.....

I'm getting a Line 6 POD X3 live in the next.... 4 months (after graduating probably) and I'm wondering... what would give a better sound quality? the direct USB-out, or the two direct line-outs into an audio interface? I'm currently using a laptop, but I'm probably getting a High-end PC or an Imac 24" as well

  • If it streams audio down the USB line, using that should be just fine. After all, most interfaces stream down firewire or USB as well...

  • very good but perhaps a bit more visual stimulation would have made the info easier to absorb.

2 months ago i would not have had an idea of what all the items you were talking about were so if you actually showed them in the video it would have been better for beginners!

  • Yea I should have put some image overlays up...I didn't think of it at the time though.

    Thanks for the comment.

  • cool, i like the intro

  • This is great.. good job!
