aww she is so cute... she looks tough... how did the real shots go? I know she's 8 now, but I'd like to know, to see if this is good for if I ever have kids. do you have a vid of the real ones? You have a very good method, though. She looks fearless. please reply, thanks!
@fishinawafflemaker: it turned out to be a good method for getting her through the anticipation, but the real ones still made her cry and we felt like we'd betrayed her. She looked at us through the tears with a "how could you do this to me? I trusted you" kind of look. It was always hard. Thanks for the nice comments.
@fishinawafflemaker: I just remembered one other thing. Just a couple of years ago, we discoverd this cream called Emla that takes care of this. You rub it on the skin where the shot is going to go about an hour before and by the time of the shot, it's painless. It was suggested to us by the pharmacist at Seattle Children's Hospital and we've used it for every shot since.
Kids get a lot more shots than they did a half-century ago, but the needles are better now. I just relax, close me eyes, and there's just a tingle. Occasionally, I'll get a sore spot.
@Star13570 I don't look and I've had my share of needles. (Statistically, seven per year per person. I run up four just donating blood and that's a big one.)
This is very, very, very, smart that you practice with you child so he or she won't be sooooooo much scared of the doctor or shots,my late mom always gave me my shots on my butt as a baby & a teenager, then after that my body got used to shots, you have to get ypur shots step by step,no I'm 34 my body is used to shots!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this give me idea for my hospital visit.. doing rounds at pediatrics wards and giving shots is not easy... i could try this method... hope this could help me when giving shots...
Aw she's a cutie! She reminds me of myself when I was little, the way she has her pink teddy bear with her. I have a pink teddy bear that I've had since I was two and I would never go anywhere without her when I was little.
I hated my first booster shot, I didn'yt even know what the heck happened when they did it. It was funny that the pain didn't make me upsaet, jus tthe sight of the needle in my arm XD.
Thanks for the comments. We can't believe that this clip has been viewed over 27,000 times! It's always bothered me that the picture and sound didn't stay in sync when I uploaded it, but I didn't want to repost it and kill the running count.
is there a vid of her actually getting the shot? do u no how well this technique actually works? my lil bro always cries when he gets his shots, and hes about 4 too...
There isn't. I had to use both hands to hold her to get her to stop crying. :( The thing about this was that she knew, more than any other time before, what was coming. That and they just kept coming... three in one visit. We kind of felt like we'd betrayed her, too. She got some princess stickers and was OK by the time we got in the car.
Congratulation for emotionally training your daughter to handle this experience that can be traumatic to a child (and all throughout their life) if adults are insensitive. This way the child knows what's coming and knows it is O.K. to express her feelings by saying "ouchie". All in all, this demystifies the injection and turns it into a game. Way to go.
I have a curiosity. It was this same doctor applied the shots? When Lily began to cry, she tried to calm her daughter? Tks!

@garotadoslabiosdemel This is her mother practicing with her. The doctor was not as gentle or loving.
