Yeah this isn't the only way to block/disarm. Redirect, control, attack attack attack. Knife to your throat=same technique as gun. Turn sideways and have your arm closest hit his. Grab hold thusly redirecting. Control by holding on and beat the living shit out of him. That's only if hes up at your neck or close to it, but it works for most stab attacks that way. Different techniques different situation.

true, heat of battle, you'll just attack in that moment, people do weird and stupid things when in a panic or even basic anxiety. Any good knife fighter will attack with the open hand first, grab and pull, open the side (like back n kidneys) and start stabbing

I agree with Growler. Imi(elderly man defending)was a soldier and has been through many battles against arabs with knives and guns. And this strike with the knife is one of the many ways he had encountered against and won the fight.
so does this mean I now need to have a million different knife defences? has anyone here ever successfully caught another guy's hand in a fight while he was throwing a punch? How about if I use the effort that I would have used to block he arm to lung into the man and strike a target on him, lets say the side of the neck or windpipe, then I won't need a million diff techniques to block a knife.
Why wouldn't you try to be a hero? If you win, you're a hero. If you lose, you're dead and you don't care.
