@BecauseYouWatched They should have made him gain some muscle at least. I really don't see him as Venom. Hell, even the guy who played Sandman looks more like Eddie Brock than Topher.
Just from this small interview with Topher extolling some of the ideas behind what makes Eddie such a great character ( ie. His strong exterior and weak interior as the opposite of Peter) is just brilliant. The idea of making Eddie Brock a Mr.Ripley type of character is very strong. A whole film should have been devoted to this. It would have been amazing.
As for the motorcycle and shades and ladies man thing, I think a LOT was left on the cutting room floor. They needed room for jazz dancing.
I like this movie and all, but it definitely wasn't as good as the first two. The biggest reason I watch this now is for Topher Grace, and I'm sure no one needs me to explain why it's so funny to see him in the movie.
It wouldve been soo much better if venom had come in earlier in the movie. I knew venom was in this movie when I saw it in theatre and I waited the whole movie to see him and what I got was topher grace in a black costume. He did a good job, don't get me wrong, but there shouldve been more venom and less Eddie.
This movie pissed me off. I was looking forward to seeing some badass fight between Spidey and Venom yet all you see is them talking while Venom has him tied up. And I was also looking forward to seeing a lot of the Venom costume yet all it was, was the Venom face going away and showing Eddie for the whole thing.
So even though he had a little screen time, the next movie would have him as a primary villain for the whole film, and at the end, Carnage is created and closes the film. Then he has the stage for the next film. See? That simple.
Perfect ending: In the final scenes, Sandman gets bitten by Venom, and he is dying by poisoning. He asks forgiveness from Spidey, tells him what happened with his uncle, and asks from him to have an eye on his daughter;s health. Then dies. Harry also dies like in the final scene, and Venom escapes. Spidey gets the girl back, and in the next scene he listens that a black suited figure similar to spidey has been sighted. Spidey then swings around to find him and the film closes like the others.
I think personally Venom was cool visually, but as the character background they screwed it up. They should've waited until Spider-Man 5 or 6 to use Venom and Spiderman 3 should've just been about Sandman and New Goblin. I HATE how Sony f*cked up Spiderman 3.
The problem with Spider-Man 3 is that it was basically a compromise. You can't compromise when you're making the closing part of a billion dollar franchise. Sandman was in there because Raimi wanted him, Venom was in there because the studio wanted him, and GG2 was in there because they'd been hinting at it forever. Either they should've filmed 2 movies together (like the Matrix sequels) to really flesh everything out, or 1 movie with Sandman. Venom & Topher are both too great for what they got.
Topher Grace looks more like Spiderman than Toby!!! just add a little more meat on him and he's set, but they made Topher Venom!?!? I wish Topher was the new reboot-Spiderman than that facebook guy =(
@LilianaFan yeah... totally agree! Andrew Garfield should've been Green Goblin for the reboot. He doesn't look like the shy, geeky type like Peter Parker =/
Am I the only one who thought that Venom was awesome in Spider-Man 3? I mean, I didn't think they did it right by just putting him in the end like that, but in terms of appearance, I thought he looked very cool. And Topher Grace wasn't that bad either. I would have got someone else to play Eddie if it was up to me, but he still wasn't that bad.
I don't think Venom as a character is all that amazing. I think Raimi agrees, but he tried his hardest. And besides, even if you think they "ruined" the character or whatever, you have to admit that they nailed the look of venom. I think the third one is fast-paced and has weak character development/a lousy script but it's nowhere near as bad as everyone makes it out to be.
Very informative. Very inciting. Makes me want to see the picture all over again. Too bad it didn't live up to all this.
It's funny, you can see Topher so fucking in love with playing this character. But even he's emeblleshing.
Eddie never wears shades or rides a motorcycle. He says Eddie's "much better with women," but we see him flirting with Jameson's secretary and she brushes him off ---amused. He's in love over Gwen Stacy--and they only had ONE DATE. And it was coffee.
this part of spiderman 3 ish kewl.....I wanna set it up where my 2 characters met for the 2nd time...then "HE" helps "HER" and then she shouts "DON'T COME NEAR ME!!!" then the evil power "SHE" have transfers to "HIM"...then...VOILA! perfect meeting xD
eddie brock and venom were too out of character for me,i mean i know venom wanted revenge on spiderman but i wouldnt call him a villain.eddie even said himself that he wanted to protect the innocent, and he viewed spiderman as the real villain not himself
Ok, is it just me? Avi Arad just said how they mentioned Brock in the first movie, but in this movie, they made like they didn't know who he even was when they hired him. In part 1 Robby mentioned him as if he was already working for the Bugle.
Venom should have been saved for Spider man 4. I mean when he came in. The movie only had like 25 minutes left. At the very end of the movie they should have the simbiot looking for a new host and that would be a set up for another sequel. Like at the end of Batman Begins when Commissioner Gordon finds all those Joker cards.
Well that's only true because Sandman was Raimi's favorite villain. Everyone knows that a super villain never killed Uncle Ben. That was just made up for the movie.
@ terrestrialrain if you havent seen the movie by now, even when it came out on basic cable, do not complain about the ending being spoiled 4 years after a box office hit came out
Some people don't have time to watch a movie. Have you seen every movie that's ever came out, say like 10 years ago? I don't think you'd like someone to spoil even an older movie for you.
@spiderboy108 i know he had to die, but if they were going to make another film why not kill him in the last film they make. Also i heard he dies in the comics by drugs so they totally changed that in the movie, i just think he was too good of a character to kill of so soon
... Yeah, Harry is such an iconic character, Peter's best friend and one of his worst enemies. In the comics he died because of the green goblin's formula he had taken for becoming stronger. Personally I think the scene of Harry's death was one of the most beautiful filmed scenes of the trilogy, but your right, itd have been great to see him in another Spiderman movie. ...to put him in the movies. I do believe Sam Riami stated that he hates the symbiotes, which would've been okay if he actually left them out of the movie. This Venom was embarassing as a character: he was seen maybe for thirty minutes throughout the entire film, only ten of those him being bonded with the symbiote, no sort of background whatsoever (just pops in and introduces himself), and plus he "hated" Peter Parker for the most idiotic reason: Peter called out his fake photo, so he must die?
avenged: I have watched it too many times, actually XD.
Also, I know he "took" Gwen, but did we see a breakup scene? Did we see any sort of relationship with Gwen and Eddie other than a couple pictures taken? No, we just see Peter with Gwen and Eddie staring after them--absolutely no back-track as to what had happened to end up that way.

They could've added CGI to make him bigger yeah, but you gotta give Topher props. He did fantastic on Eddie Brock, and he gained 23 pounds of muscle for this.
I think with what they were able to do..Venom was decent...not amazingly awesome but not horrible either.. I stll love this film no matter what the fans that are blinded by rage say.
venom was way to skinny, the webbing on his suit are redicilious, he had way to little screen time and he died. all this is what i hate about the movie-venom
I think Topher did a pretty good job but Sam Raimi screwed it. Eddie/Venom shoudn't end like that. It was total waste of a great character and a great actor.
@hanbi47 i loved topher as an evil twin kind of spidey. he should've been the main focus of the movie if they really wanted venom be done right. oh well, i still love all of his scenes
@hanbi47 It wasnt Raimi's fault Sony forced him to put Venom in at the last moment when the movie was going to come out May 3rd so he couldnt change the date thats why venom wasnt really good in it
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Ryan Reynolds or Seann William Scott would have been really good as Eddie Brock as opposed to Topher Grace who is dorky. Eddie Brock in Spiderman 3 cried too much!
Dude, I think Topher did a good job. He wasnt Brock from the comics, but if you think about it, hardly any of the villains in these movies(except the goblin) were like their comic counter parts.
The problem is Eddie is a pussy in this movie, he was a brolic jock in the comic! Topher Grace's voice made Venom sound like a gay rapist! and his acting was terrible. Venom should have been in spider-man 4 or not at all. The fact he died doesn't bother me. Plus if they made Eddie look they way he was suppose to, The when he transformed Venom Would be brolic too.
I think that this venom was ok...and all the times that he appear...but kill him at the end was the real problem and what everyone considered a dissapointment...
well they mostly just skipped the part when he does take his jacket off because of the simbiote landed on him. ya know what! i think there just getting to the CHASE!!!
damn I noticed a mistake not that any one should care its just things film makers notice. ok in 5:19 brock has his sweater on b4the simbiote lands on him and on 5:27 he doesnt have the sweater anymore.I'm a big fan of spidey just that I was bored and payed close attention.hahah
Is it just me who notices at from 5:10 he has the hoodie on then 5:25 its gone. Well maybe they just edited it like that in this behind the scene version
I understand the angle they were going with venom....but too me they should have focused more on the rival angle AFTER he became venom. Venom should have been introduced halfway through the movie after sandman had been defeated. From there they should have explore more and more about Brock and a human and brock as the host. To me, it was just all too rushed. They focused too much on Sandman who's character wasn't that deep, and left Brock in shallow water when his story was just getting good.

Ugh... I hated Spider-Man 3. Its was the worst of the three. The only thing I liked about it was special effects.
Topher Grace shoulda just stayed as Eric in That 70's Show... I love that show (wish it still was alive, why did they have to start it in the middle of the 70's? They coulda started the pilot on the night of New Years 69, then they could have a whole decade to work with).
Don't flame me, it's just an opinion you whiny person(s) who wanna.
Spider-Man 3 was flawless in every way! I hate Venomn! But I loved the movie! Thanks to Bryce dallas Howard Gwen Stacy, one of the greatest characters in the Spider-Man mythology has been brought to life! Not to mention that, along with Mary Jane Watson (played flawlessly by the Queen of Actresses, and my #1 fave, Kirsten Dunst!)
I loved, LOVED, loved Topher Grace as the Venom. He made Spider Man 3 worth watching. I hated when they killed them off. I wish they had killed off Mary Jane, instead. She really started to bug by the second half...I mean, I really wanted her dusted, she was so boring.
I love Eddie's Outfit.. He really look badass..

Sutch a hugh mess of a film, and they totally raped Venoms story.
You can not tell the symbiot saga in one film, and definitely not with all the other stuff they threw in there.
And the symbiot known from the comics can mimic all kinds of clothering, they forgot that obviously.
Also Eddie Brock is based pretty mutch on the 80s action heroe stereotype ala Arnold swarzenegger.
I know Arnold is to old, but Roland Kickinger could have pulled it of.

Oh suck it up

topher did a good job based on what was given to him. Sam didn't messed it up, it was avi arad who threw venom into the script at the last second.
coolestkid126 2 years ago 53
how do you know that?????
pitzwil50 2 years ago
everybody does. sam was overloaded with stuff from avi and sony.

I think with what they were able to do..Venom was decent...not amazingly awesome but not horrible either.. I stll love this film no matter what the fans that are blinded by rage say.
kham2914 2 years ago 5
Ya that's what I keep saying.
ItzDSD 2 years ago
the way they made hulk, they should've made venom in this movie, like in ultimate spiderman venom was freaking buff as hell
Megawaste12 2 years ago
they would have done that, but since Venom was only in the movie for like a half hour...
lineridermatt12 2 years ago
venom was way to skinny, the webbing on his suit are redicilious, he had way to little screen time and he died. all this is what i hate about the movie-venom
BallooInTheHouse 2 years ago
I think Topher did a pretty good job but Sam Raimi screwed it. Eddie/Venom shoudn't end like that. It was total waste of a great character and a great actor.
hanbi47 2 years ago 49
@hanbi47 true that .
princesstochi890 1 year ago
@hanbi47 i loved topher as an evil twin kind of spidey. he should've been the main focus of the movie if they really wanted venom be done right. oh well, i still love all of his scenes
Triforia 1 year ago
@hanbi47 It wasnt Raimi's fault Sony forced him to put Venom in at the last moment when the movie was going to come out May 3rd so he couldnt change the date thats why venom wasnt really good in it

@hanbi47 he did a great job

Ryan Reynolds or Seann William Scott would have been really good as Eddie Brock as opposed to Topher Grace who is dorky. Eddie Brock in Spiderman 3 cried too much!
sachinmistry1 2 years ago
he cried once that I remember and it was right before he became Venom. Spiderman cried like a bitch though.
minisomma 2 years ago
Dude, I think Topher did a good job. He wasnt Brock from the comics, but if you think about it, hardly any of the villains in these movies(except the goblin) were like their comic counter parts.
marvelmax03191 2 years ago 5
seann william scott.. now theres an interesting thought
massakre01 2 years ago
The problem is Eddie is a pussy in this movie, he was a brolic jock in the comic! Topher Grace's voice made Venom sound like a gay rapist! and his acting was terrible. Venom should have been in spider-man 4 or not at all. The fact he died doesn't bother me. Plus if they made Eddie look they way he was suppose to, The when he transformed Venom Would be brolic too.
paperluigi64 2 years ago
I cant believe venom died.

I think that this venom was ok...and all the times that he appear...but kill him at the end was the real problem and what everyone considered a dissapointment...
topomaniac 2 years ago 7
that venom didnt even look like the real venom in this movie, this movie was a disappointment
fishandchips8956 2 years ago
This movie sucked because it was too long, too boring, too weak in storyline... This franchise is done...

i think its not the fault of topher grace that spiderman 3 sucks so bad.its the fault of the writers of the story...they made venom sucks so bad.

well they mostly just skipped the part when he does take his jacket off because of the simbiote landed on him. ya know what! i think there just getting to the CHASE!!!
xTwilightluFFerrx 3 years ago
oh yeh luckylaka77 one more thing. when the symbiote falls on him and everything in the movie it shows it going in his mouth on this one it skips it.
trent4245 3 years ago
damn I noticed a mistake not that any one should care its just things film makers notice. ok in 5:19 brock has his sweater on b4the simbiote lands on him and on 5:27 he doesnt have the sweater anymore.I'm a big fan of spidey just that I was bored and payed close attention.hahah
