the swat sniper part is such a joke... 100-300 yards is not sniping, anyone with some gun skill shoud be able to hit thos distances with iron sights no problem..
Because this is US propaganda documentary, and for americunts the best snipers are those who kill only one enemy soldier during the war, but gets himself to the news because of his long range kill shot. These snipers have very little impact to the result of the war (didn't say engagement, you americunts. I know what you are about to reply to me), unlike truly spectacular snipers like Häyhä. He was a one man army.
Well the Fagnnish over there should maybe realize that they aren't that big of a gift to the world, and that you saying "he was a one man army" is total bullshit.
...Even divisional echelons? I'm not talking about echelon left / echelon right formations when I talk about echelons... And Häyhä didn't have any support. We had total of 32 tanks during winter war and no men to spare, let alone airplanes.
Hayha was a great sniper, but stop using him as an example as to say why he is the best sniper in the world, there have been snipers since then that have had quite the impressive record.
I'm not trying to discredit other snipers. And I don't care who is the best sniper. To be honest it's impossible to quantify the achievements of snipers. However, imho the longest kill shot doesn't count, because it has lim x->0 impact to the war.
But because this is offtopic I'm going to stop here. :)
The so praised Springfield 1903 is nothing else then a stolen design from the Mauser 98.Mauser complained at America but at that time there was no international Courts or so,so Mauser recieved no Money for the stolen Design
@Zero7evenX, Its a Mauser action. Of course it wasn't designed in the United States.
Whats funny is he said that was a Ross rifle and the Ross was a straight pull bolt action. That clearly wasn't anything resembling a straight pull, weather it be a Swiss 1911 or U.S Lee navy or Ross.
That was a p14, manufactured in the united states FOR USE BY BRITISH AND CANADIAN ARMIES. The united states used the p17, which was the same rifle except chambered in .30-06
Don't spout off 'facts' when they're indeed not, asshat.
So wait, the Guns of the Russian Military episode clearly states that SVT 38 and SVT 40 were NOT favored by the Russians for reasons of being unreliable, yet in this episode it claims that the Russians were using SVT 38/40 models as SNIPER rifles? Gimme a break, History Channel.
There were a couple versions of the SVT 38 and SVT 40 that were designated sniper rifles. But it is true that they were proven to be less than effective. So they kinda got it right on both sides :P
A gun can be both, unreliable, and accurate.. Just because a rifle, is prone to jamming, needs hand fitted magazines, and has a tendency to over heat the barrel rapidly (like the SVTs do). Does not mean that it cannot be accurate.
@anadryantontine the SVTs were something of an "interest" of the command, where "body of fire" was a major issue, when their mosins broke or needed maintenance, they could simply pick up another, or swap a few parts, SVTs require some more diligent service, as a rifle, its quite nice, but a weapon...well, theirs where it starts acquiring problems. they where commonly scoped though.
In the Battle of Stalingrad, German troops would pick up Mosin Nagant rifles and use them in combat. Not because they favored them, but because they ran out of rounds for their own 98k. Even if you don't favor a gun for a number of countless reasons, it may be the best choice you have available.
That fucking stupid stock gunshot sound effect they use to punctuate random points is unbelievably irritating. How many times a minute do we need to hear it?
@king93b P14 is actually not the Ross rifle but the Pattarn 1914 Enfield rifle which was a british weapon that was built because after the Boer War the british wanted a rifle built around the mauser bolt system but the First World war led them to realize that the Lee Enfield SMLE rifle was better and easier made...
But unlike what the documentary says (which is full of mistakes) the british snipers during the First World War used the Lee Enfield SMLE with a scope or elephant guns that where brougth to the Western front from Africa. Don't want to sound like a know it all but just wanted to correct you because you make a perfect point about the documentary
@king93b The P14 and the Ross Rifle are completely different rifles. The P14 is a turn-bolt rifle developed in the UK and is based on the Mauser, while the Ross was a straight-pull rifle designed by a Scotsman and manufactured in Canada.
@314299 I can see the erro's of my ways now thank you. But I still feel that shows like this only cattier to one group people, Red Neck's. As it seem's to always be about what the U.S. had instead of a greater overview of the weapons used within the second world war. I feel it maybe time that some made a gun show which did not have such a large American influences.
@king93b The gun/weapon programming certainly does, for the most part, have an American bias. It's American programing aimed at Americans so it's not surprising it's the way it is. There are some Russian programs which look like they would be interesting if someone would over dub them in English. I would bet that those have a very Russian slant on them!
@king93b have you noticed that they're trying to get credit out of every weapon lol which isn't even theirs. I'm sure the british used the Lee Enfield mostly in WW1 as their sniper rifle... and their optics were from germany.
@king93b A quick Google search reveals the validity of the shows claim. The country of origin was UK, Canada, being part of the UK in 1914 may or may not be the area of origin. However, the first world war being on, the UK could not make them fast enough, and contracted it to US manufacturers. In fact, when the US entered the war, there wasn't enough rifles to go around for us either, so they simply altered the P14 already made in the USA to 30-06 and re-dubbed it M1917 Enfield rifle.
Sadly Dick Gardner, Boy Wonder, was orphaned at age 13 with one bed shot. lol Actually, It is kind of sad schools no longer have ranges. It taught kids that there were times when you had to be serious & responsible. It also gave kids that were no so athletically inclined a way to compete in something. It was also something that put girls on an even field with the boys.
