@satamique Thanks I agree with you about the tempo of the sond and the way ALEX plays it live , much slower than I play it. However I have seen him play relatively fast and also on the very slow side depending on his mood.

Pete, Standard tuning is EADGBE Start from the bottom E, tune it down a whole step to D so, now you have the DAD portion. Now the tough one...the G has to go up to A ( a whole step) . This will probably pop your wound G string. The next B string has to go down to A and should be an octave higher than the 5th string (already tuned to A and should be exctly the same as the A that you tuned next to it (formerly G). The high E must go down to D...Thats it... Let me know how you make out Pete.

Chris, I heard a clip of Alex playing Nor Wood before Hope one day ...(you tube)so I threw it in there . I do not believe the Beatles used this tuning. As far as I can tell, Led Zep did not use this tuning either and I have explored all of the Zep tunings over the years. Thanks !!!

What's the best way to keep the G string from breaking? I know F# is sometimes used, but it totally changes the way you play the song.

Do I just need heavier strings?

When I kept breaking the G string I just put a B string where the G is supposed to be and tuned it to an A. It worked great because it is just as tight as the B string when it is tuned down to and A when you're in DADAAD tuning so it doesn't break like the G does.

I think Bren is correct. You will break your wound G string many times !

yeah, you just need to get slightly higher gauge, lower tension strings(say a set of 11-49 gauge strings as opposed to a 9-46 set)so they can handle different tunings easier. I find that the light strings on my acoustic can handle dadaad well enough though.
