  • @tsdurai. Around 50% of fiji indians are of Bihari decent. Tamils in fiji are called Madrasi or Maan dra gee. Alot of these south indians in fiji are ashamed of who they are and they dont like to be called madrasi or South indians. The only proud fiji indians are bihari community who are not ashamed to be called Bihari's.

  • @nishkov I agree with this. I have met quite a few Tamils from Fiji who only "admitted" it when pressed - like they were ashamed. They were embarrassed to be associated with anything India and tried to mix with the other Islanders in our group with no results (mainly they were made fun of completely). However the one dude who was willing to stick up for his Indian roots (to the point of physicality with the Islanders) was Bihari. Much more proud & fearless as Fijian-Indians.

  • Its Mother Nature at work !!. . . .its true that Fiji-Indians take on the traits of Native Fijians. I was astonished to see photographs of an Englishman when he left to live in China, and then a recent photo of him some 40 years later. Its an understatement to say he is more Chinese-looking now than some native people from that country !!. So, imagine living in Fiji for centuries, you'll be dancing the CIBI in the streets of Suva soon, if you're not careful !!

  • Slavery was outlawed in Britain in the early 1800s, but the task of Empire building wasn't yet done up to then. So, instead of Slavery, the Brits turned on their own people, Convicts, and sent them off to Aust, NZ, Can, USA to help build the British Empire. Then they turned to India and conned the poor of India to go as indentured labourers to Fiji etc. They also kidnapped other islanders to work in Aust in sugar fields with no pay. So, descendents of Girmittiyas are entitled to be in Fiji.

  • @gameplayerucool2 ...thank you...I just feel strong about it and I hope you know I meant no disrespect .

  • EVERYONE who lives in Fiji is considered Fijian ....yes it was the British who brought my great grandfather from India to Fiji...But I found out that two boats left India and heading for Durban,Africa. One boat made , but one got lost at sea during a storm, once the sea calmed down the nearest island was Fiji. But after the 5 year contract was up most of the Indians went back to India but my great grandfather stayed. And I am glad he stayed. I proud to say that I am Indian Fijian.

  • one fiji one culture we rock others can gp play each others asshole

  • @salmeen Lolz true one fiji one culture we are we are fijian at the end of the day regardless of our diversity. Very well said.

  • Fiji Tamils have migrated from the state of Tamilnadu ( Madras Region under British ) Long BACK.

It is good that they still maintain the Culture of TAMILS even after mixing with BHOJPURI HINDUSTANI people.

It will be nice that FIJI TAMILS travel to INDIA /TAMILNADU.

It will be good if they SEE TAMIL MOVIES and retain the CULTURE

  • fool fiji is onlii for fijians and visitors!!!

  • Lolz fiji is for the people of fiji irrespective of religion and race it isnt for narrow minded idiots like you

  • Do not blame us for we are the descendents of girmitiyas. If you want to blame for the indians/hindustani in fiji blame the british for it is they that took Indians all over the world, Jamaica, Cuba, Trinidad, South Africa, Mozambique, United Kingdom, Fiji, Solomon Islands, Canada, Colombia, Peru, Bolivia, Venezuela, Puerto Valla, Britsh Virgin islands, Do not point finger and start blaming Indians for we know nothing, we hv the same rights and responsibility as native fijians.

  • What the hell are you talking about?

  • @22871987 what about Malaysia? there are like 3 million indians whom are mostly descendants of indentured labourers? More than most of the indian diaspora combined and most of them are Tamils!!

  • @brownmuscle 2 million actually and the Indian diaspora is some 10 million.

  • Tahine Fiji is a very multi-ethnic, cultural and diverse conutry in the South Pacific. You can find anything and almost everything in Fiji. Lako mada lei raica all the beautiful faces of Fiji. Bula :)

  • source all trouble in this paradise country....bloody girmit low caste descendants of Indian slave labour

  • lols what a joke you are not all of our ancestors were lower caste as it as typed in those anglo saxon web pages. They all came from different caste systems, faiths and ethnicities. If we were all lower caste then what are the muslims doing in fiji and the christians whose ancestors have been christian long before christianity even arrived in fiji

  • @leetraders ur mum was a whore the suva soccer team fucked mother fucker

  • R THOSE iNDIANZ IN FIJI?...i DIDNT KNO THAT...BUHT YEA NEWAiiZ..POLY ALL DAEI!!!

  • yes, Indo-Fijians make up roughly 37% of the population, in 1987 they were the majority.

  • wow what language do they speak

do any of them speak my language?

    i am tamil

  • Naahi yaar. Indo-fijians do not speak Tamil, the ancestors of the Indo-fijians in Fiji were brought from various places in India to Fiji n lalnguage was a difficulty then. So, from that time till now Launguage scientists and Interpreters named Indo-fijians a unique sets of Indians who speaks a total different Hindi, where many of the words have been changed. The language spoken in UP is quiet similar to the once in Fiji.

  • There appears to be good number of Tamil people in Fiji though. Those dark-skinned Indians in this video carrying kavadi MUST have Tamil background, because fire-walking and these hook-in-skin type of rituals are Tamil, NOT north Indian. Plus names like "kandasami", "goundar",

    "naidoo", "pillay", are tamil names.

  • i sent you that last message before watching the whole movie

i see them doing kavadee now, that's a tamil tradition

so there must be some speakin tamil right?

  • @BoxerMonkey

Indo-Fijians 1st arrived in Fiji in 1879 from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, such as Basti, Gonda, and Faizabad. Another quarter came from the emigration prone districts of Madras Presidency (now Tamil Nadu and part of Andhra Pradesh) in South India such as North Arcot, Chingleput, and Madras (now Chennai)

There were smaller numbers from Punjab, Kashmir, Haryana, and other parts of India.

  • Same things you are seeing in Fiji right now is the same thing that happened in Trinidad and Guyana. There is a Tamil revival in Trinidad and Guyana though.

  • what things you are seeing yes there some fijian indians are of tamil origin though most cant trace their ancestery liek the rest and there some fijian indians that have tamil surnames but are mixed with the rest as in north indian or different castes back in the early days. fiji indian of tamil orign look way different from the actual mainland tamil from india and sri lanka

  • Thats true, but the people in the video look like Tamils from India. Even there are Guyanese and Trinidadians who have tamil background that look like Tamils from India. You can't make that assumption.

  • i'm not making an assumption cause fijian indian myself and i could easily tell the difference between the two

  • Well my friend, I've met some Fiji Indians w/ Tamil backgrounds, and they attend a local Tamil association. Everybody thinks they are Tamil, they look pure Tamil....have you ever been to Tamil Nadu?

  • no i have never been to tamil nadu nor do i intend to but being a fijian indian myself i could somehow tell the difference between the two i dont know what it is probably its their laid back fijian nature or something

  • i have cousins whose father was of madrassi origin but they carry their surname as well as others too you see fiji is an ethinic melting pot

  • native fijians also do fire dancing you will find a lot similiarities among native culture and tamil one too which is scary

  • For the Tamils its called "theemithi", which is a devotional sacrifice to the goddess mariamman.

  • a lot of native fijians go there and watch the ceremony too i wanted to go but had to go somewhere else

  • what country are you from

  • @Lilzoify you can trace Tamil surnames to locate certain states in Tamil Nadu who have significant populations of one or more castes. And for your second statement fiji Tamils do not look ANY different from people from Tamil Nadu, neither to the Malaysian Tamils! Each caste have their own different geneaological traces some Dravidian and some Aryan and other a mixture of both, depending on what caste you are born into, e.g. Tamil brahmins are very different from the Parayar castes.

  • @brownmuscle I beg to differ me being a fijian indian can easily tell who is fijian indian and who is from india. Yeah our ancestors mostly came from india and other countries but I bet due to caste intermixing, the strong pacific culture and our linguist is what differentiates us with mainlanders and probably our appearance too. Yes I can easily tell who Fiji madrassi and who isnt. Yes i can easily tell who is malaysian tamil look short and small. Whereas Fiji ones are tall and built.

  • @Lilzoify1 Malaysian Tamils look short and small? and fiji ones are tall and built? Obviously u dont know many, genealogistically there is no difference. And making a statement like that and rationalising over 2 million people is stupid, and not 2 mention im 6"3 and 95 kilos hence the name.

  • @brownmuscle Mate who's the fijian indian here? me or you? and yes Fiji ones are taller, built due to caste mixing and also due to eating native fijian islander foods and meat. They look better looking too they have a certain roughness to them in their nature. Yeah I know heapz becasue i can tell who is one.

  • @brownmuscle Btw us fijian indians do not follow the caste system our ancestors got rid of it 131 years ago cause they realised at the end of the day everyone is a human being. Also due to the lack of women all we retained is some cultural traits which were part of them. It is true there is a distinctive fijian south indian and community and Fijian north indian but most happen to be caste mixed anyways and also have been intermixing with one another or with the native fijian islanders.

  • @brownmuscle Do Fijian tamil people speak tamil

  • @The123456han Well most I know speak Fijian hindi (our sland version) or native fijian. Some may speak it depends.

  • nice one.brings back memories
