Hi, I'm modelling one myself. I use inventor as well and I love it. It's just I can't find any drawings for the engine, differential or steering rack. Maybe you would like to share some? Thanks
Oh, by the way. Do you have a blog or something about the making of this car?
hey is inventor good for making models for games? I use blender and though I like blender I want variety, and maya and max dont appeal to me but I used this once and was very comfortable with it.
hurrah, a little light car with no engine, maybe you can push it to the finish line.... seriously do, wat kinda engine did u put in it? left me curious :P
I'm trying to do something like this on a motorcycle that I am building, did you do this in Inventor Studio or Presentation? I can get things to assemble in both, I just can't figure out how you made them change visibility. Any help would be great.
Sorry but I don't remember now, that was about 2 years ago, I don't use Inventor anymore, but it was simple. I don't remember any problems with that, Sorry but I can't help you morre, I don't even have Inventor student version on my PC anymore.
I built my car from my own plans, but I can't send them. Nowadays there is no problem with plans/blueprints, I just found in the google 2 free sets, no problem. Try here georgecushing(dot)net/Lotus7(dot)html You might also want to buy these two books "Tiger Avon sports car for road" and " Build your own sports car for as little as" I bought these books after I built my car. Good luck with your project.
Thanks for comments. I can't send them for at least 3 reasons.
I think that there are enough chassis blueprints available for builders, for example a few days ago I found drawings for a new Westfield chassis (with only a few dimensions, but with 3D Cad software it's not a problem)
Because virtual version isn't in 100% exact with my real car, (I didn't check geometry, etc for the virtual version.)
I don't need more problems than I have already, I've heard so many strange stories.
Beautifully done. I have been using pro/e to develop animations for the past few months and I am curious; how long did this take you to create (animation only)?
Don't remember exactly, something like 3-4 days, at the beginning it was very easy, but at the end of the animation with all these parts, it was like 2-3 h of rendering for every 10sec of animation. I was rendering at 800x600.
lol ya we had a problem with that. we designed a tractor in autocad, which isn't primarily for 3d objects. very time the screen movied just slightly it had a 20 minute buffer. nice man, im hopin to build one for myself someday. dream car. 5*
Also, add some support tubes at the back of the 2 roll bars behind the seats. The current ones are too weak and will break or flex in case of accident.
Very nice build up video! Will be even better if you add simple text comments (the names of the added parts) at each step. Give you 5 stars for the video presentation. The chassis design is good, needs only few modifications in the rear, in order to improve the rear crash protection.
Dear god.. i can't wait until im that good with inventor. 1st year using it w/ my school. my friend at the school is building a locost. dont know what model. seems like a sweet car though, i wish i had the patients to build one.. i'd probly just get a Caterham..
sweet man! i've always wanted to design/build my own locost. and i just learned autodesk inventor 11 in school. hust some basic basic stuff, but its still cool. im sure that i'll never get to design and build my own locost, but i might buy a kit one when im older. maybe a westfeild. but im only 14 so ive got time :) good job man!
"that is not a Lotus in rigour" of course I agree with you but I didnt write it's an Original Lotus Seven. Basically all Sevens are very similar and I'm not a big fan of the original version. I really like Donkevoorts.
No probs. although it would look crazy with the engine and gearbox, and all the pipe work. These cars are amazing tho, little power but having the advantage of a light "shell" gives it crazy acceleration and handling. 0-100 in 3.6secs i think? Do you own one? and also, is Autodesk inventor anything like Autodesk 3ds max? I'm studying at Atari and we use 3ds max, so if there anything alike then i might get in2 it. Cheers!
But it wasn't my intention to design engine or geabox. My intention was to design complete rolling chassis, but finally I decided to add body parts as well.(to show what a complete car looks like). But u can find some engines animation on youtube as well. if u like them.

Hi,
I've been watching your videos and I'm amazed. I'm a mechanical designer so I really enjoy stuff like yours. I'm not product but jig designer
I'm looking forward building a seven or/and a 23 from scratch, and its really hard to find anything related here in Argentina.
You did build a seven from your plans? Can you tell me how can I get a copy of your plans, or where can I find 7 or 23 chassis plans?
Thanks in advance for your advice!!!

One more thing...
How do you draw tread on the tire?
I managed to do it, but i don't think its the right way. I sketched on an extruded plane the grip design, cut, then bent the part 360.
It worked but there is a line where it joins.
I'am sure you know so many tricks.
I've only been using it for 3months and can unreal things.

00Mass00 3 years ago
Was everything modeled by yourself, for example the suspension and calipers. I just wanted an idea of the learning curve.
I've never used Inventor, but I do have a reasonable knowledge of Lightwave 3D and 3DMax. I've also used AutoCad many yonks ago.
ecstaticasom 3 years ago
"Was everything modeled by yourself" yes I did every single part (even bolts and nuts lol).
"I just wanted an idea of the learning curve" I usually use radius tool sometimes u can play with surface tool or sweep up to you.
"I've never used Inventor, but I do have a reasonable knowledge of Lightwave 3D and 3DMax. I've also used AutoCad"
So u should be fine Inventor is very very easy to learn.
