So I have a fairly small Pitcher Plant but I've seen stink bugs just walk all the way down to the bottom and crawl out again. Any suggestions as to how or why?
Its not necessary. I have cut only dead leaves. You schould pay attention that the rhizomes of your plants get enough air circulation. Mildew killed my purpurea because it had no circulation.
NOOOO!!!! ITS LIES!!! There actually really easy to take care of. Nutrient free soil 50/50 mix perlite to peatmoss. Water them with distilled water and give them full sun. Dont believe the MYTH that they must be grown in terrariums. Outside full sun and keep thier soil wet with distilled water. I will send you a friend invite as to make it easier for you to contact me if you have any questions.
The nepenthes shown at 4:39 has nector uder the leaf around the back of the pithcer with waxy slipery edges. Like the sarracinea it to has thousands of downward pointing microscopic hairs to make a very slipery nearly impossible to excape from pithcer
Oh ya the venus fly trap their are 3 cleverly placed trigger hairs on each lobe of the trap. When one is bumped it gets the plant ready to snap shut. When the same one or a diferent one is bumped the flytrap snaps shut. Then as the bug sruggles it stiulates the plant to close tighter until a air tight seal is made.then the plant releases digestive fluids into the trap filling it.After about a week or so the trap reopens for more prey.A trap may close sevral times before dying.
At 3:43 it shows a butterwort. These like the sundew are sticky but not as sticky. When it has caught bugs like mosqitoes or moths or any other light weight bug the leaf fills with digestive fluids.
All of them use some type of digestive fluid saracenia the long tube structures have nector glands underneath the lid. Thousands of downward pointing stiff hairs ensure little excape. The sundews featured in the begining and at 2:00 for example have lots of beads of sticky substance that makes the prey stuck when atrracked to the sparkiling and I believe smell. When the insect is stuck it is eventually dround in the sticky fluid .
What carnivorous plants would anybody reccomend to start with? I really like nepenthes, is that an ok one to start with? If it is, what kind should I get?
Nepenthes hybrids are easy to cultivate and they are very robust. Most sold is the Nepenthes x ventrata (ventricosa x alata). So i would start with it (like I have done).
Felix haste echt gut gemacht....Wirklich cool! Und wie groß die bei dir alle sind, ich hatte mal eine, aber die war sooo mikerig und ist dann auch eingegangen... Ja auf jeden fall ein cooles video!!!
Hmm...If one came into a collection of these things and set them out they could drasticly decrease the annoying little buggers around a house...one question though, can they digest bees?

Did you cut your sarracenias during their dormancy or did you leave them as they are?
