  • How did Steve Fielding get elected? He is absolutely horrible at stepping around questions.

  • @ccordell1111 Look, I believe that everyone should be able to step around questions according to whatever stepping around beliefs they have, i'm not about to force anything on anyone.

  • 1.48 uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

  • If creationists are still looking for a missing link, they should have a closer look at that member of parliament.

  • I like that this panel can hold a civil conversation on such a controversial topic. Why is it that the only American sows that deal with this subject do nothing but argue and talk over one another? It's frustrating that I can't see a debate that doesn't end with someone severely pissed off.

  • Steve Fielding is unfit for this PANEL !!! LOL

  • richarddawkings is supurb!!!

  • Can u turn the sound up please.

  • More babble from the believers. How can Dawkins listen to it time after time?

  • Thats by far the cutest Rabbi I've ever seen :D

  • "I think policy making should be made on common sense"

So what Mr Steven "I am creationist" Fielding thinks is that finding in science should be ignored in favor for for common sense when making policy decision.

(We use science to understand things just *because* common sense time after time been proven to fail to explain things correctly.)

  • Seems like the only person making ANY sense with cold hard facts is Richard Dawkins, the other just sound like there making it up as they go. Which, I guess, they are

  • To the Australian politician on the right of Dawkins.. You sir are an Idiot.

  • @CoMiN08 it's actually Dawkin's left but anyhow...

  • whats up with those pictures that pop up for a few milliseconds all over youtube?

There's one in this video at 3:52.

  • "children manage to grow out of santa claus' lol MY NIGGGAAA

  • 6:44 Juuuuust about to take off his glasses.

  • wonder what the prime minister thought about being referenced like that, does this idiot still have a job in australia?

  • everyone wants to ask Richard Dawkins questions only ,what does that tell you. He's the only one on that panel whose opinion counts

  • Steve is so funny, r all creationist so funny ?

  • I would pay lots and lots of money for Mr. Dawkins tie... :)

  • @lolarkilol his wife handcrafted his tie for his birthday/anniversary (one or the other)

A Canadian guy commented on it and he explained.

  • Richard Dawkins rocks!

  • The dude to the left of dalkins is such a moron

  • @EmmeMck

    You have no idea

  • cringeworthy senator

  • When Steve Fielding says "Look" it means "Sorry, I won't answer that question"...

  • rofl on every question Dawkins takes off his glasses, haha, does taking them off make him more capable of answering questions?

  • That female participant is jaw-droppingly annoying to listen to... What a gawking moron... Her entire appearance on this show makes for such an impeccable display of self-delusion and the art of spewing forth inconsistent, incoherent, blathering bullshit to no apparent end - I feel kinda sorry for the people who has to live with her, or anybody like her, and listen to that mouth go on as her brains zone out. Ooooh boy...

  • what country is the show from? why arent people screaming and calling eachother faggots?

  • @jjgghghg

I just got so happy about the fact that I live in Australia

  • @jjgghghg The wonderful land down under.

  • @jjgghghg its from australia and people aren't screaming at each other and calling each other 'faggots' is because thats not how we operate. we respect and encourage intelligent debate.

  • @livingdead0101 It was really enjoyable to watch, too. :-)

  • @jjgghghg antlantis Mate, Antlantis

  • @jjgghghg Good old Australia. <3

  • @jjgghghg

    lol

  • @jjgghghg Australia lol!

  • @jjgghghg

Australia... MY COUNTRYYY gotta love it.

but in all seriousness, Australia is pretty atheist and also pro- homosexuality. (majority)

  • "If there is a god, may he strike down the whole audience"

  • i don't know why, but i would love to see Carl Sagan among these people :)

  • fucking Australians, the aborigines and bush tucker man never spoke of GOD (Yahweh) as a supreme being so fuck all the descendants of christian belief who sent their criminals and NON AUSTRALASIAN animals to the very very south eastern corners of the globe (excuse every oxymoron)

The weird thing is that children seem to GROW OUT of santa clause :)

  • it is more or less impossible to use the word atheist without preceding it with the adjective strident. They simply go together, I am not strident I am no more strident than anybody else. Now is it like disillusioning children about santa clause?

The weird thing is that children seem to GROW OUT of santa clause :)

  • i feel bad for that politician, his agent signed him on to the wrong show for sure. He's such an IDIOT

  • 8:07 Intelligent design shouldn't be taught in a science class. Good.

  • "i have a jew" . . . but where?

  • Why are people like Dawkins and Hitchens always prefixed as "strident" "outspoken" atheists for quietly debating or giving interviews and lectures, yet the armwaving, mouthfrothing pastors who shout and bawl it, unchallenged, from the pulpit every sabbath, or the arrogant costumed dictators in the institutional churches, who tell us our private thoughts are "sin", are not introduced as "strident theists"???

  • @Tobytrim Hitchens and Dawkins et al are described in derogatory terms because the religious are hateful and strive to portray ANY opposition as negatively as possible. They even use the term "militant" when describing some atheists, like Hitchens and Dawkins, even though neither man has ever expressed, promoted or condoned violence in any form. It's a not-so-subtle tactic designed to vilify their opponents and make the religious seem like innocent victims of persecution and tyranny.

  • We now have an athiest PM. Hooray!

  • Dawkins OWNES the panel yet again!

    FAIL religious heads!

  • i love the fact everyone applauded when dawkins said kids grow outa santa

  • ...meh it sucks how quiet these videos are :(. but nice Q&A, nonetheless

  • I could explain all of them in the same way, I'll just take a sumative example. No christians believe water can turn itself into wine, but a God above this world who can do such things, in fact dipending on our awearness of the impossibillity of it to prouve the concept of the supernatural that would lead him to prouve he was God and above this world.

  • Dawkins ownz everyone xD

  • Richard Dawkins believes that Jesus Christ existed. If he believes that he existed, then why does he not believe what was written about him?

  • @JoM80 What was written about him, is in one book written years after his death. That book no longer exists by the way, we just have copies of copies of copies of translations of translations of translations...

Now, why should he believe it? There were lots of claimed messiah's at that time and many of them had been claimed to heal the sick, perform miracles, resurrect from death etc. The jesus story is not unique even if it's fiction. If jesus existed he was just one of those loonies.

  • @JoM80 "Richard Dawkins believes that Jesus Christ existed. If he believes that he existed, then why does he not believe what was written about him?"

Not wishing to sound condescending or otherwise offensive, the fact of asking this highlights your limited understanding of the separation of historicity, i.e. accepted fact from embellishment/fiction. Jesus may well have been a real human alive at the time, the biblical claims are another issue, this is what RD means and believes.

  • @JoM80 If I wrote a book saying I was your God and you have to listen to me, would you believe me?

  • @daylight0912 I don't believe in just a book. I believe in the Bible because it can back it up... Jesus said that if you don't believe in me, then at least believe in my works (miracles). Even today God's work is visible, you just need to look for it, and not for reasons to not believe in him. Here is one example that it took me 2min to look up on youtube.com. Just type "Catholic Miracles Unexplained by Science" in the search engine.

  • @JoM80 I don't want to waste my time searching nonsense. You are ignorant, the same science that gave you your t.v., your car, a plane, helped you live longer and healthier, electricity, the computer you're using to contact me with, EVERYTHING. Is the same science that says Evolution is true. YOU ARE BRAINWASHED.

  • @JoM80 If you don't believe in Evolution you don't believe in Science. Get off this computer and start using candles for electricity.

  • @daylight0912 I think science is very beneficial, and I also believe in evolution to a certain degree. Can one not believe in both?

  • @JoM80 It's called being Agnostic, which I am. I believe in God and Evolution. I don't believe in Religion. Agnostics don't believe in organized religion. If you are Christian, Muslim, Jewish etc. You can't. They specifically deny evolution.

  • @daylight0912

Agnosticism is that you find knowledge of whether or not any deity exists to be unknown or unknowable

  • @sunso68 Thank you for repeating what I just said.

  • @daylight0912 If you believe in god but not religion, you're not an agnostic, you're a deist. And agnostic doesn't know if there's a god and doesn't espouse a belief in god. A deist believes there is a god, but not necessarily the god of any particular religion.

  • @ciaochowbella Thank you for repeating what I just said. "If you believe..." Exactly, I BELIEVE! I don't know if God is out there or not, I cannot say for sure. Am I saying I know he's out there for sure?

Agnostic: a person who claims that they cannot have true knowledge about the existence of God (but does not deny that God might exist)

I don't know the existence of God. THAT'S WHY I"M AGNOSTIC. I don't claim that I know god exits or what he wants from us.

  • @daylight0912 Ok, nobody KNOWS if there is a god. It's all belief.

Therefore if you BELIEVE then you're not agnostic. You're a deist. Agnostics do not believe one way or another, but don't deny the possibility.

I didn't repeat what you just said. I corrected you. You're stretching the definition of agnostic farther than it will go. Apparently, precision of language is not something you practice.

  • @ciaochowbella "Ok, nobody KNOWS if there is a god. It's all belief." LOL. Obviously you never debated with a religious person. They will use the word faith, but then they will say "I KNOW god exists."

Agnostic: someone who believes that people cannot know whether God exists or not.

"KNOW KNOW KNOW KNOW." I DONT KNOW HE EXISTS. I never claimed I know he existed. I AM Agnostic and Deist. You can be both. Jesus fucking tity christ do you know the difference between know and believe?

  • @daylight0912 I do understand the difference. It seems that you don't.

    A deist isn't an agnostic. Just like a horse isn't a duck.

It doesn't MATTER what believers SAY. The fact remains that they DON'T know. The fact that they call themselves "believers" is rather telling.

  • @ciaochowbella I gave you 3 definitions of Agnostic. Don't believe me? Go define Agnostic in google.

Agnostic means you cannot prove or disprove Gods existence. I can't, so I am agnostic. But I do believe that there is a god. So I do fall under Deist.

Please try to understand the definition of Agnostic. There is no over-explaining. I gave you multiple definitions of the same word which you keep ignoring. Stop ignoring the definitions I'm presenting.

  • @daylight0912 Deists aren't agnostic.

Thank you for playing....Vanna has some lovely parting gifts.

  • @ciaochowbella Agnostics can be deist.

Thank you for wasting my time, girl.

  • @daylight0912 Deists are not agnostic.

You chose to waste your own time, boy. Don't blame me for your decisions. I had nothing to do with that.

  • @ciaochowbella Agnostic are deists.

    You are hideous, girl.

  • @daylight0912 Agnostics are NOT deists.

You're a painfully ridiculous little boy who needs to mind his manners and respect his betters.

  • @ciaochowbella Agnostics can be deists.

You are not my better and respect is earned. What have you done in the last 10 posts to think you have earned respect? Name one. Times like this with a face like yours, the islamic culture would be good here. Cover yourself up.

  • @daylight0912 When have you earned respect? You want to cover your ass because you're too cowardly to pick a position and stick with it.

If you're an agnostic, you are not a deist. If you're a deist you're not an agnostic. No matter how badly you'd like to be both, you are just not.

Only pathetic, weak men wish to throw in with the misogynistic religions of Abraham. Thanks for showing us JUST exactly what you are. That was precious of you.

  • @ciaochowbella Oooh. Did I push the wrong button? Is my words getting to you? Want a tissue? Women such as your self are such pathetic creatures, so emotional.

Agnostics can be deists. Agnostics believe god is unknowable, not unbelievable. You still fail to see the difference between know and believe.

  • @daylight0912 Your misogyny is showing. The fact you wisht to embrace even a PORTION of an ideology that sees half of the human race as inferior is incredibly telling about your lack of character. Calling all women "pathetic creatures" is also indicative of your weak character and patriarchal bent.

Agnostics are not deists and deists are not agnostics. The two are mutually exclusive. The fact that you can't understand that illustrates most grandly your lack of cognitive function.

  • @ciaochowbella HAHA! I did push the wrong button. You're obviously new to the internet world and are easily trolled.

You still did not address the argument I brought up. All you do is say how they're not alike. Go to google and type "define: agnostic" If it says anything about believers are not agnostic, then I will admit I'm wrong.

I'll ask the question again because you seem to dodge it. Do you know the difference between 'know' and 'believe'?

  • @daylight0912 I've already addressed it. Just because you ignored it isn't my fault.

  • @ciaochowbella Whoa whoa whoa. Believing in god doesn't mean I believe in religion. Once again you have to draw the line. That is why I'm agnostic, I don't believe religion can understand the mind of god. In fact, I don't believe any human can ever understand what god wants from us. "The fact you wish to embrace even a portion of an ideology that sees half of the human race as inferior" No I don't, where did you get this from? Don't throw words into my mouth.

  • @daylight0912 I never said you believed in religion. You obviously are unable to read for comprehension.

The fact that you wish for ANY PORTION of a misogynistic faith to be instituted in our society simply because you disagree with me is your failing and extremely telling about your character. You said, "Times like this with a face like yours, the islamic culture would be good here." I didn't "throw words" into your mouth. YOU DID.

Stop hating women. We're not that bad.

  • @ciaochowbella women are only 50% of the population, why should they get such special attention ? :P

  • @eat666shit I didn't ask for "special attention" for women. Just equal consideration and rights. Equal protection under the law would be nice too. Equal is not special.

BTW, saying "only 50% of the population" when there are just the two options and as if half the population doesn't deserve proper consideration is indicative of your misogynistic tendencies. Half the population shouldn't be treated as less than the other half merely because of an accident of birth.

  • @ciaochowbella You obviously missed the irony of my comment (hence the " :P " at the end.) .Put into consideration that the 50% of the earth's population is sadly still NOT enough for many "civilized" countries(hint: nearly the whole world) .Allow me to share with you some biblical wisdom; Colossians 3:18 Wives, SUBMIT yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord.

Do you endorse this as the holy word of god ? If yes, then don't blame the other 50% for your troubles.

  • @eat666shit There is a great need for a sarcasm font.

No, I don't endorse the Bible AT ALL. Anything usefule, decent and good found in that particular book can be easily found elsewhere.

All I want is equal rights and protection under the law. It's not too much to ask.

  • @ciaochowbella "Sarcasm font" - that's a VERY good idea, and so we can rest assured that the youtube-team is never, ever, EVER going to implement it... ;D

  • @theanvilcracks Indeed. The YouTube team is only interested in "improvements" that no one likes, needs or wants. But I was thinking of larger than YT.....I think the world could use a sarcasm font.

  • @ciaochowbella lol, well I guess we'll all have to explain ourselves for the time being - Bill Gates controls the world, and he's not into taking suggestions... ;P

  • @theanvilcracks can you imagine how horribly people would use that sarcasm font though? I've heard people claim that about half of us don't even understand sarcasm as it is. Obviously is is a BS percentage as I have no data to back that up, but observing some of the "fake" Christians that are really atheists and their videos it appears pretty accurate since many cannot tell it is satire. We'd have people marking statements like "God is real" with the font when they totally meant it as serious :D

  • @Reip187 You're right... ;D

But that's a problem I'd be willing to live with (mostly becasuse I in fact CAN detect sarcasm quite easily, your mileage may vary..)

With that said, it was a mere whim of an idea, youtube would never, ever, EVER do something like that anyway, so...

  • @ciaochowbella "Just like a horse isn't a duck"

    LOL horrible analogy.

  • @ciaochowbella Do you know the difference between 'know' and 'believe'? Do you?

  • @ciaochowbella agnosticism - a religious orientation of doubt; a denial of ultimate knowledge of the existence of God; "agnosticism holds that you can neither prove nor disprove God's existence"

I deny all religions that say they know the word of god. I cannot disprove or prove god's existence. I FALL into Agnosticism. But their MIGHT be a god. So then I fall into deist. BUT first I fall into agnosticism before anything else. You're just like religious people, can never admit you're wrong.

  • @daylight0912 You're really over-explaining in order to redefine "agnostic". You can't be unsure and believe at the same time. You said yourself that you believe in a god. That means you are simply NOT agnostic. I notice you now change it to "might" believe. Perhaps you should decide what YOU think.

Don't blame me if you're unable to clearly communicate your ideas. I can only go by what you have written. If you say you believe in god, you're a deist, not an agnostic.

  • Fuck that politician with the glasses is a spineless coward.

  • The brown-haired lady suggested that God is not real by human terms. He is basically an idea that comforts people and gives them a sense of purpose. I think this is the proper way to think. The trouble is, Creationists do not agree...

  • I don't like the last politician that spoke, not because he's a Christian, but because he has no spine.

  • At 5:00, the witch in white straightens her back uncomfortably because she knows that a man not prone to her spin is talking intellectually, something she has no capacity to do.

  • "Reinterpreting God" as you get older is the definition of a fool in so far as doing the same thing and not learning from your mistakes.

  • watching Fielding trying to articulate himself is so stupefying I can actually feel the synapses disconnecting in my brain. He is a cheesy lump of gormless rectal ejections that couldn't run a shoe factory, let alone act as the leading figurehead of a bigoted Christian lobby group. Thank God (pun intended) that he is not in the front line of politics these days. Besides, he needs to save all that breath to blow up his wife.

  • Richard Dawkins is so refreshing! It´s an absolut pleasure to watch him speaking! :)

  • dawkins looks pissed off haha, poor guy, the annoying shit he has to listen to

  • Mr. Fielding is not answering *any* questions. Every single sentence he utters is blabbering apologetic rubbish. All other panelists state their point and are open for discussin Mr. Fielding is just trying to evade every question concerning his own views. A politician by design - but mind, not *intelligent* design.

  • i feel sorry for fielding he should be in hospital.

  • most people who believe in god are told if u question or doubt in god, u be burn in hell.. for those for believe it for all their live, friends and family in god..it is very hard for them to leave ...

  • @charitycloud

Aye... it's very sad. I have a friend who is religious, and she refuses to talk to me about it because even the idea of questioning god is a great offense; because she's been taught that way, and she even admitted it.

I honestly can't understand how someone could follow something they weren't willing to question or validate. It is such an alien concept.

  • Tony Burke is a burk.

  • I just LOVE listening to a scientist. They say, "the more you know the less you don't know," and that is quite true. I want to know EVERYTHING but my feeble human brain can only absorb so much information at such a slow rate. If I could have one wish I wouldn't ask for riches or power but I'd want to know EVERYTHING...the absolute truth about EVERYTHING.

  • "Steve, what do YOU believe in/ what is YOUR opinion on ________?"

    Steve Fielding's comment formula:

"Look, I think different (insert group/individual) believe different things. For example; (List examples of groups/individuals with differing beliefs) "

  • haha dawkinson is actually hilarious, he could be a comedian, really

  • Once again, Richard is accused of being "strident" despite his polite tone. It's only "strident" because they don't like what he's saying. They want him to be more polite - and by polite, they mean Richard agreeing with them and going to church.

  • @JQisAwesome friendlyatheist[dot]com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/unholy_trinity3.jpg

  • High Schoolers should be taught what Creationism is and why its bullshit!

  • Everyone wants Dawkins to answer their question.

  • Santa and God are not real. The child grows out of the belief in Santa because it is obviously not real. Adults cannot grow out of religion because social acceptance and personal integrity are perceived to be more important than truth. All on this panel are behaving in the same manner--they are trying, more than anything else, to gain or at least maintain accumulated social status. The "idea" of the truth holds no candle to the "thought" of social humiliation, huh?

  • what did that woman stick in her mouth at 1:48 ??

  • I wish they had shows like this in the us

  • Dawkins is my hero... people don't know how to appreciate such brains.... unfortunately

  • chick at 4:00 is bangin

  • children manage to grow out of Santa Claus... brilliant. Sums it allll up. perfect.

  • Professor John Polkinghorne , KBE, FRS, MA mathematics , PhD physics, Cambridge University, who is one of the world’s renowned quantum physicists wrote. “The exacting precision required to produce the result for the evolutionary big bang theory would be like taking aim at a one inch target on the other side of the universe and hitting it dead centre.” The mathematical correctness necessary to support this theory is entirely unattainable. Big Bangers please recalculate your theory.

  • @janneyisin

Simple. Maybe if you'd actually read ALL the material, you'd also note that within his hypothesis which he is describing there are an INFINITE number of universes (due to the nature of Quantum Mechanics, and this is most likely very, very true due to the uncertainty principle). So, if you take an INFINITE number of universes, and you take a tiny, tiny, tiny, IMPOSSIBLY TINY fraction of infinity it is still...infinity. Problem solved. Scientists are stupid.

  • richard is using logic

  • dawkins is tha man!

  • I love how Richard Dawkins is described as "strident" or "outspoken"...i think people just want Atheists to shut up because they don't want to hear dissenting views. People give all respect to religious people giving their views in a firm manner but when it comes to an Atheists it's a different story.

  • Santa isn't real?

  • No one in any audience attending an event with Dawkins and Hitchens as an attraction cares what anyone else says, they are only there for Dawkins! So the rest of the panel are left looking awfully political and depressed when question after question comes in for the great 'Professor Dawkins' as opposed to 'Tony' 'Steve' and his ilk!

Keep it up, Professor Dawkins, and the same to you, Mr. Hitchens!!

And Steve Fielding is a fool.

  • "i happen to believe that the bible is one of the all time best sellers", when will the liberals drop this moron

  • That guy at 4:00 was raising his hand for the past 10minutes. I saw it in part 1

  • That last guy was a pollie?

Those voters should be ashamed of themselves. What a fucking rat.

  • australians....YOU NEED TO VOTE FOR A NEW PRIME MINISTER.

  • an anogram of fielding is retard

  • How would you rank the monotheisms in terms of acceptance of scientific understanding? Here is mine (lowest=most acceptance):

    1. Judaism

    2. Christianity

    3. Islam

  • @metaserve

This is a meaningless scale. All three believe in Adam and Eve. Say no more. Whatever else they may claim that alone debars them all from any mention in the same sentence with science.

And you are merely comparing which quadraplegic is the most athletic.

  • @Hypoguest good answer. All of them ultimately believe in magic, which is of course ridiculous.

  • I wish the volume was a bit louder. It's had to hear here in Starbucks even wearing ear buds. Or maybe they could their damn music down. :-p

  • all your children will be taught by the lord is a paraphrase of a scripture. too bad the "religious" guy doesn't know that.

  • steve fielding just avoids confrontation in every question.. out of his depth.. no idea what he is on about

  • That rabbi woman's eyes look like the red-haired actress in Glee.

  • i love how Dawkins gets uncomfortable and moves around when these people give retarded comments

  • I could ask him questions ALL NIGHT and see what kind of nonsense he comes out with. I think he's probably a nice man. I have met people like him, Mormons actually, and they have an attitude like his. I think sometimes it extends from a genuine belief (i.e. because their brains have been shaped in certain ways) that God is love.

I kind of think that Love should be god/dess, so we'll get along. :)

  • everyone just wants to talk to Dawkins.......nice!

  • Nicholas Wade's "Before the Dawn" is a great book to read... it talks about the evolutionary need for religious beliefs and its role in sociability in early human groups. I strongly recommended it.

  • why is the minister of agriculture there? is he really qualified to answer these questions?

  • Love Dawkins' tie! :)

  • when so many people believe in god,

we ( everyone ) are forced to accept it !!,

the question has to be: How does this happen ?.

It is very disturbing to me that so many people still follow religion.. and if given the power, would subjugate people like me who are atheists.

  • freesalvation, sounds like an atheist taking the micky, if so keep up the good work, as such rambellings only expose the ubsurdity of religion. good on you comrade.

  • Steven Fielding's backbone is made of cotton candy.

  • That Steven Fielding guy is insultingly stupid. How could someone like that have the audacity and even temerity to go outside, let alone on television, with that brain!

  • if u met one person who believe in evolution u would say the same thing that they are mad like the case of one person believing in religion.

4 those who want to argue against me evolution was introduced in small bits were ppl agreed with it on a slow basis then to the whole theory in the same way religion was introduced in bits. so dawkins is being silly in making a comment like that.

  • @mem521 No. You're illiterate.

  • @EclecticSceptic

care to argue against my point? no ges u dnt. its youtube wat is wrong with writing things in short text? im not writing a formal letter so wats the problem?

  • @mem521 I won't argue against the mess that you call your point because it doesn't deserve the respect that I would grace it with. Evolution by Darwinian natural selection is nothing like religion. If you don't like reality, jump of a cliff but don't say that the cliff isn't there.
