  • nice pattern, air force ABU just like my uniform! Kiwi kwik-dry spray can is perfect for your next waterproofing on your next tarp project!

  • @ninjastick419 I used it the first time I water proofed it...but then I did the silicone mix...and it has lasted at least a year now...this tarp is now in England with Sean the Silver Fox...I gave it to him at the Gathering this year

  • what is your recipet for waterproofing

  • @Texasoutback 2 ounces of silicon to 5 ounces of low odor mineral spirits by weight...mix well with a hand drill and paint stirrer, and then you can either paint the mixture on, dip the tarp in it, or spray it on with a garden sprayer....and hang to dry...takes about 10 minutes to mix and treat, and then 4 hours to dry and not be tacky any more.

  • @MrCableguyken What type of silicon are you using. I was thinking of using silicon calk.

  • @Texasoutback cheap walmart 100% clear silicon

  • good 1st attempt.next time try a felled seam where you join the material.

  • I really like that pattern. Did u get it at walmart? Great vid Ken.

  • Where could I find this kind of nylon material, any Internet store that ships worldwide? Today is raining and I'm fired up with this project, very cool stuff. Thinking of custom poncho, with grommets and hood, too.

  • @tekknorat alot of walmarts have it in the bargain section...or you can get it cheap at hancocks fabrics online.

  • @MrCableguyken thanks Ken, I'll have to search more online options, cause I live a few thousand clicks from Wallmart :D Actually found some shops allready, which sell exactly 1.1 oz nylons, coated and uncoated, especialy for outdoor projects like tarps and stuff. And there is coating (silicone for that matter) available to buy too.

  • the 's' is silent..."growgrain" :)

  • Great video, Ken! I need to get busy getting my gear in order. Did you get that material locally or off the internet?

When the video started I accidentally hit the closed caption button. If you want to read something interesting, you need to see how the Google translator puts your words into text.

  • found it online at hancock fabrics online....its no longer available..but they have more to offer as well.

  • LMAO....I did the CC...jeeez....and I thought i was bad before....thats just too funny.

  • Great work!! Where did you find the material, Ken?

  • hancocks fabrics online...they are sold out at the moment....but if they get more in I will hit you up with a message.

  • Great job ken! If you do your own sealant, let us know how it works brother.

  • used spray silicone for the sealant....its working pretty good so far with 2 coats on it.

  • That is something else Ken you did a really nice job making that looking forward to seeing how she works for you afield.

  • Ken, That looks like a great tarp! You never cease to impress brother.-Critr'

  • Great job. Maybe put some pull outs on the side wall halfway between the edge and ridgeline. I like the pattern. Good sewing. Looks strong.

  • Yeah, Im working the pros and cons in my head now...and how I would sew in the patch panels...I am thinking just squares of a slightly heavier fabric, sewn on a 45 degree angle to the tarps edge....then sew on the pulls.

  • Thats exactly how I would do it. I think once those are in place you should have a great tarp.

  • just a awsome job :)

ian working on rotating and organizing my food storage today buy it a big joj in a big job in a small room.. but iam lucky i have the room at all :)

  • Very nice, you've got all kinds of skills!

  • Thanks Brother....only problem is I cant complain to the company if it leaks, or comes apart...lol

  • AWESOME Ken !!!! It looks great !!

How much fabric did you use? It obiviously was 2 seperate pieces, how big was each piece?? Where did you get the fabric?

  • I started with a 7 yard piece that was 5 feet wide....cut it down to 5x10...and stitched the two pieces together long side. hancock fabrics online had it in the clearance section for 1.60 a yard....wish I had orderd more now...lol

  • sweet. I made one out of a rain fly from an old tent. Cut it in half. I plan on using the other half to make a couple hammocks out of.

  • Must have been a large tent lol.

  • Great job. It is always better when you can make it yourself. Just another self reliance skill you have acquired and knowledge doesn't weigh anything. I have enjoyed all of your videos, keep em coming.

  • Thanks brother, and your right...Dave wasnt just talkin about woods self reliance when he started teaching us...we need to be more self reliant in all things.

  • Very true...very true. :)

  • I am working on it...but its hard sewing a 1 foot piece of camo into a dress that wont get you arrested....or did you want total coverage? lol Thanks for the comment...now to make the stuff sack for it and the stakes I am making for it.

  • LOL! Look forward to seeing how you waterproof it and make the sack and wow!...you're making your own stakes....go man!

  • Good job, Ken

  • Great job Ken!

  • nice job!!!!

  • Love the pattern! You did a nice job bro! $11 in material and just a few more bucks to waterproof it makes that a great deal.

  • I found a camp dry type spray at Tractor supply 2 for one...got 4 cans for 8 bucks...but I may make my own silicone spray and use that....silicone sealant, mixed with mineral spirits (low odor kind) and just let it disolve, then spread it on with a brush.

  • good made tarp those ty off loops are nice and heavy duty, cant wait to get my hand on a sewingmachine.awesome thanks.
