Hmmm...I have a thought, would it be possible to use four VIC II chips and let each one render one 160 x 100 multicolour screen, then link the four areas together. (VIC II chips 1 and 2 handle the top, while 3 and 4 handle the bottom)
It's really one of the best synth music I'v ever heard. I play synth and tried to play this theme several times on my Korg with programming Arpeggiators and modifying wavesounds. I thought that I did once and then listened to the original, It's far to be the same. This song is Epic and I could never understand the complexity of its sounds!
How do they do that bit during the music where the loading screen is being drawn on the screen about 3-4 multicolour pixel lines at the time? And can it be recreated with 16 or 32 bit graphics with other computers/consoles?
My God. Commodore 64 and these Ocean Loader tunes. Brings me back to my childhood and they make me forget every little trivial problem in my life. I feel like a goddamn child again.
I love these tunes, there's nothing better in the world. Thank you for uploading these.
great tracks on ocean, always used to turn volume right the way up when i was a kid then listen to my parents scream at me to turn it off lol........ what ever happenend to ocean??
Crazy comets is already uploaded here. I never played either of these game myself, but I can upload the music from Zoids soon. It certainly isn't a bad Hubbard track.
Ocean Loader v2 is bar far the best one of them all. Such a lonely tune. Like a depressed android completely alone on a vast spaceship, lost deep in space. Wandering around the halls of the ship knowing he'll go on until the end of time without ever having any company. This tune makes me think of this. It was the loader for the greatest C64 game of all time too: HEAD OVER HEELS. Love it, thanks for posting !
Very interesting to read that. i find there's something melancholy and distant about a lot of these tunes. Perhaps it was less so when the music was contemporary?
I agree that was probably the case. Though, judging by this particular tune would it be fair to say M.Galway would have been influenced by New Romantic bands like, say, Visage or even i could liken this melody to David Bowie's 'Ashes to Ashes' in a vague sense? I doubt i was old enough to understand the concept of melancholy when i first heard this (i think it is the 1st C4 tune i ever heard). It's quite upbeat on reflection despite the moody chords, Maybe more intended as a 'hero theme' ?
This is the music that will always stay with me as it is/was so well written.

The best Ocean Loader by far, and the most epic.

Ocean Loader 2 is my favourite of them all - slightly more refined than #1 but not as overblown as 3,4 and 5. Galway rocks!

From wikipedia:
"The last game released by Ocean was GT 64: Championship Edition in 1998, for Nintendo 64."
"Ocean was acquired by Infogrames in 1998 for £100,000,000 and renamed to Infogrames UK."

@einokeino303 Ha! Ocean's still a bigger name than Infogrames UK :)

This is one of the best original C64 tunes, perhaps second only to Rob Hubbard's phenomenal LightForce. Thanks for posting.
