i have question, does anyone who has commented on this clip. does anyone have this on dvd and if so. how many of you would say that it works on USA made DVD players? i want to buy it on dvd but people are saying that the dvd copies only work on british made dvd players and that it doesn't work on USA dvd players. can anyone clarify this please?
Interesting tidbit, btw - at one point in pre-production, UP #844 (at the time, numbered 8444) was considered to play the "Gold Coast Flyer"! (Found this out from the Railfan & Railroad Magazine article about the shooting of 4449 on "Tough Guys")
The Movie makers weren't really stupid enough to shoot and risk a multimillion plus dollar piece of irreplaceable historical railroad equipment, were they?
Doyle McCormick Is The President Of The ORHF Oregon Rail Heritage Foundation He Is The Engineer And The Founder I Do Belive Any Other Information You Need I Know
@the1americanidiot I thought years and years ago.. I was under the impression after years of taking care of it he passed away... maybe I'm getting my conductours confused
This is awesome!!!!!!!! They should do that more often with the steamers that are left. I know theyd never actualy reck the real trains, theyd use computer effects.
Doyle McCormack is the engineer with the gun pointed to his head . He is the man responsible for restoring the fine locomotive to operating condition back in the 1970;s.
esta pelicula esta genial yo la tenia en audio latino , pero la preste y nunca me la regresaron alguien la grabo , ojala y la suba en audio latino ojala
Here are some of the best lines frome this movie.Archey walks up the the cab of 4449.(McCormick)Whats the trouble officer?(Archey)Your trains being robbed.(McCormick)Your crazy nobody robs trains anymore.(Harry)I'd say you've been miss informed.(Archey)What took you so long?(Harry)Wanta waste time gabbin or are we gonna rob a train.(Archey)Anything you say Harry.
ahh relax!! its only a movie!! lol they wouldn't shoot up the real beautiful 4449, would they? I'm not a Southern Pacific fan but a B&O fan, but I admire the 4449 because it is indeed a beautiful locomotive!!
That's a shame...a year or so ago the bargain bin at my local cut-price department store had heaps of copies of it on DVD. Oh well, at least you have it now.
This is what i would have did if i was the engineer. I would have hidding 45. in my jacket and when the fucker tried to take over i would shoot him. Then when the dude blocks the tracks in ettempt to kidnap 4449 i just world had run his ass over. my version of the movie would only last 15min lol.
I loved it when the detective shouted "What is this, the gunfight at the O.K. Corral?" If any of you are movie fans too, ironically Burt Lancaster and Kirk Douglas also starred in that movie together as well, LOL !!!!
I like this version of the video because it allows you to see a wider shot of 4449 stopping before the car. I have the VHS version of the film and I can only see 4449's nose and pilot, but not the running gear, as shown at 0:37.
yup, you are correct sir. what i love most about this movie. is that just because you are old. doesn't mean that you can still do stuff physically. and me being a train nut. it's cool to see steam being used in hollywood films. although. it would of been nice if they used the entire 16 car train. instead of three cars. thats kind of a rip off. but hey, it's still a great movie. and from what i have researched. burt lancaster had already experience in running steam locomotives.
The reason they used 3 cars was because they only brought down 5 cars. Those cars were the water canteen, the RPO "Yes Dear", the combine (facing the wrong way and formerly the crew car), a coach and the boat-tail observation car "Vija K.".
Cameo by Doyle McCommick, original engineer of the American Freedom train 1:04. The shots of the train moving again were great, I'd like to see that as either the 844, 3751, or the 3985. 4449 has made a mark in almost everywhere you could.

The SP 4449 is a tough engine, plus those were fake bullets.
In the crash that was a fake locomotive made from fiber-glass.
