I remeber wanting his signature kit so badly although ide never seen it before
and i went to drum wright in reading and i couldnt wait and i remember the guy saying you'll be in for a dissapointment its that much of a great looking kit lol
Probably the most beautiful player I have ever heard. I actually had the honor of meeting him in New Jersey when I was in high school in 1987-88. A gentleman and an innovator.
you can see him, dave weckyl & vinnie play this groove at the same time at the end of the 1982 buddy rich memorial scholarship concert.. 13 minutes, really fun.
steve's timing is just impeccable, and he's so playful on the cymbals
If you don't recognize it, (in the first part) he is playing the groove to the song "Late in the Evening" from Paul Simon. He said he developed the use of 4 sticks over a mozambique groove to make it sound like a whole drum section instead of just one drummer. Steve is still the man when it comes to "layin' down the law"!
It's not quite the 'late in the evening' pattern - but it certainly sounds like a derivation of it. The pattern on the toms is different. But Steve can do whatever he wants...!
uuuhhh well thats why the groove hes playing is called FOUR STICKS originally played by john bonham of zeppelin....the owner of the forum i'm on filmed this. (drummerworld)....and this is not a "jungle beat" as titled
homer, every artist interprets the music in his own unique fashion. Have you ever heard the Gershwin classic "Summertime" performed exactly the same way by different artists?
Why would you expect it of this song? The awesome thing about music is that so much beauty can be found in differences as well as in things that we have in common.
Can't say I understand this relative to my comment. Someone commented that this was the Four Sticks groove, but it is not. That song and drum groove are fundamentally different. I like them both, mind you, but this isn't that - if anyone cares to know.
It's a lot like 'Late in the Evening'. It sounds like he used that as the foundation and created some variations off of that groove. That remains one of my favorite drum tracks of all time.
Come on Patrick,,all drummers Rich, Krupa, Bellson, Peart, they all play the same stuff. Gadd is great

Aside from the fact that Gadd is playing with four sticks, what he's playing is not the groove from the song Four Sticks by Zeppelin.
