To strengthen Indian-White relation, the Powhatans (the tribe that Pocohantas belonged to) set up a "mock-execution" on John Smith (who was a leading figure in Jamestown because he introduced
military discipline into the colony, "No work, no food" kind of thing.) And they had Pocohantas "save" him from execution. Wooh. More peaceful relations.
Pocahontas eventually becomes a "peacemaker" so to speak between the Powhatans and the new settlers (which, by the way, Native-White relations would still be rocky even from this point and on in all future colonies due to western expansion and the Native's philosophy over land and whatnot.)
She furthers her role as a bridge between white-native cultures by getting married to John Rolfe, who was also a leading figure in Jamestown because he introduces cotton growing to the colony (which becomes a huge success and eventually becomes a staple crop in the South and is a leading factor towards the development of the Civil War.)

Well I think we have improved. Now people are aware of eachothers rights. We watch this video and can understand that yes, there were mistakes in the past.
