i think he was not an alian because the evidence against it is more than for it and also his name is PROT while robert porters surname contains the letters PROT-PORTER i think he tryed to get out of the suffering by creating a new identity also the police sheriff said he was smart man thats how he knew all those solar space stars and about bes i have no idea thats the only mystery

u know, russian national football team player Konstantin Zyryanov, some years ago he lost his wife and little daughter (they jump out of window and crashed). this story is private, but i should say... this guy dont seems go mad. Hes brave and just live his life, try to be positive. thats why i think such things not allways drive people crazy.

Did you see the movie? It's revealed that Prot had been friends with Robert long before Robert's most traumatic event. If Prot really was an alien, I'm sure he took Robert's body with the best of intentions.

Or perhaps it symbolizes that consciousness shares a thread with the travel of light. Perhaps consciousness is an appearing and fading property which inhabits organisms. This may explain the ending of the film as well, when Prot says that the universe will collapse and open again for eternity, but you will only get this one chance to get it right before you live it again.... ;)

@Mexiitaa Actually The point of the movie was that Prot was actually just Robert Porter. After seeing what happened to his family he attempted suicide but failed. In order to suppress the memories he basically was driven to be a schizo. He knew all the things he knew about space and everything because he was very interested in astronomy. At the end of the movie, when he tells them a certain time, notice how all the cameras and security are focused on him and not Bess.

Doesn't have to be true at all. The ending is left open for interpretation. As such, one of two things may have happened:

1) Prot did indeed leave Earth to return to K-PAX, taking Bess with him. Porter was just a human host that Prot used while on Earth.

or 2)

Porter suffers a mental breakdown at the end, and is shown later to have fallen to catatonia. Bess coincidentally escapes from the hospital, leading some of the patients to believe that she went to K-PAX with Prot.

Like he had previously stated "A Soap bubble is round, because it is the most efficient energy consuming form. Similarly, on your planet i look like you, and on K-Pax i look like a K-Paxian" He took the body of robert porter.. that´s why he had his memories, and responded to the hypnosis.. In the end he left robert porter´s body, and took bess... CONTINUES.
