It doesnt matter how many people can get on a plane if the plane has 1.issues 2.needs special gates 3.is built in a recestion 4. is built so that only large airlines can afford it 5. so that it can only fly long hauls and 6.it has competition froma 787 do to start flying commercial routes this coming January also the 787 will be sold to all kinds of airlines not just national airlines and is very fuel effecient in a unstable market
@LiamC123321 In a one class config the 747 can hold over 550, but then again the A380 can carry 850! I don't think anyone wants it to crash, well maybe Boeing, but it was the same story when the 747 came out and people still bought into that.
And again, Airbus wants to go fast, In 40 years we'll have a mach 5.3 cruising 100 000 feet high flyer 1000seater... powered by liquid Hydrogen, whilst boeing wants a slower mach 0.65 but silenter aircraft 600 seater...
@Tommiclio i no a lot of pll going to complain about this but i dont think a380 looks safe. After all they have many crashes more than boeing. (i think)
@darkcamry I dont know bout that. All I know is that Airbus have developed 2 of THE most iconic planes .Sure the 747 is a nice craft, but its out of date, the design, the capability. Its only down to technology that the 747 manages to keep up to date.Airbus are the only company to successfully design, develop and fly a supersonic passanger airliner. The air bus A380 only looks a bit out of place right now because it MASSIVE and will take a while for people to see it common place just like the 747
The airline industry is all about moving numbers at the lowest possible cost. A380 is still the best aircraft in existence for this purpose. With an average fuel consumption of around 363 liters per passenger, the A380 easily beats the 787-9 by a margin of about 90 liters per passenger (over its max theoretical range).
Only a few airports can accommodate such a large plane, the wingspan is too long for most airports right now. The 747-8 will out due this aircraft until airports grow larger.
@shqipe1996 accually that is not true, because the A380 as more a larger wheels than the 747 (not 787) its weight is spread over a much larger distance so the weight of the aircraft is of no concern!
lol they act like on the first test everyone is biting their nails since there is only a 50/50 chance it won't crash immediately. and the spruce moose was the best plane ever.
What an idiotic narrator! "Will it fly? Will it fly?" OF COURSE it will, that's why it is built for! "Does anyone want it?" Why do you think it was designed, because there was no interest? Jeez, I need to punch something now!
@Twinman2 Exactly right!!! What did they think was going to happen?? "Oh well, we have designed the biggest plane EVER, spent millions, but we are not really sure it might possible take off?" I'll hold them while you punch them!!
i hate these documentaries that pose a million rethoric questions. they spend most of their time asking "will this huge plane fly" or "will customers need it"... YES you fuckin idiot!!!!
why is it that it only costs a third of a billion to build one of these things yet Nasa needs a hundred billion dollars to land a few people on the moon again? it costs 300 times as much to land a few people on the moon than it does to build an airbus? come on man thats pathetic.
@mattmopar440 It's already obsolete - the 747-8 is going to murder it on the bottom line. Despite still being a 747, it's really a new airplane in terms of efficiency and systems integration. The A380 cannot be made in numbers large enough to serve as freighters, and as airlines upgrade from 747-400s to 747-8s, a large number of 747-400s will be around for cargo operations - meaning that the A380F freighter version has a dismal future.
Man all I am gonna say is this has given airlines an awesome opportunity to get one of the best seat layout for the first class!!! A380 is the future!!! Time for Queen of the Sky (Boeing 747) to sleep around the produce some babies lol.
It actually can, but not today because air travel has gone down considerably. All economy can fit more than 800 passengers. However, I'm sure not many people want that to happen because baggage claims must be an extreme headache!!!
that can't be right because there is about 200 countries in the world and each one has at least 3-4 airports, unless it is in a 1st world country so 4,000 airports is about right, if there were 24,000, there wouldn't be anwhere for people to live!

Is it really a good idea to be carrying this many people around on a single plane though? If the plane crashes, you're talking a HUGE death toll!
Also, I thought the 747 could hold over 500 people?

A380's 1st flight is 30 years after 747's 1st flight. It is normal that it is more efficient, more soundproof, more confortable, more secure, ...
I will be happy to fly onboard one of a380s - especially if it is one of the A380s with bath and shower cabins offered from Emirates airlines
