What's my place? Actually I'm a sponsored artist and have won enough guitar competitions to know this is amatuer at best. I'm not against the guy personally, but it surprised the heck out of me that he won 2nd. If you go to the channel for RandolfArriola on you tube, for instance, you'll see he not only blows this guy away, but myself as well.

2. what creates the synth-string sound (the one played around 2:40)? Is it the BOSS GT?

@THEREALMOSH2 It's a Synth String effect, probably modelled after the Line 6 effect on the FM-4. Reverse delay or a slow gear for the volume swells, plus Reverb, plus a shimmery Chorus, plus a harmony 1 or 2 Octaves above. Something like that

This is honestly the best performer I've heard out of all of these. As far as best use of the Loop Station... well, nobody in the competition still comes close to Dub FX.
