i like reels better, but float line systems are good for big pelajics. i typically dive int he 40-80 foot range and find that reels are easier to use because the fish wont swim away with your gun and stuff.
PS. My good friend lives in Puri Gading. I stay with him when I vist, and when I move, I will stay there until I find house closer to beach. Maybe Jimbaran area? Maybe more out Bukit (quieter!).
@royogi wow that was nice.. i'm going to indonesia for spearfishing in december 2010 for a couple of months... can you give me some advice for some good spots for spearfishing similar fish??? thnx in advance... greetings from Croatia...
Hey! I was thinking maybe bigger fish around! :-). I do that, too. THAT FISH! THIS FISH!!
Will bring tips, shafts, and parts. I build guitars, so maybe I will set up a small shop and build spearguns, too :-)
My Yellowfin tuna? I saw bigger - to 150kg +, but down around 200' (65m?), and I can only make 33m or so, comfortably.
I never use a reel. I just like a float line. Have dealt with large sharks in the tropics, and like having my gun free to use as a push rod to push them away :-) lol
Thanks Royogi. miss your laugh bro. you are a true bluewater master

i lived in nusa dua beach
but now i m still in japan for work
i ll comeback on the next september to bali.hope i can meet you in bali bro.
you should try nusa dua area for spearfish.
33 meter dive is too enough for you to shoot doggie or allfishes.
i dive only 8 to 12 meter when i shot doggie ,i am not sure coz i have no depth meter .
but i know my floatline is only 14 meter long

WHAT WERE YOU WAITING FOR!!!???? You had float gear (a good way to drown is with a reel!).
And yes, I know what I speak of; Best fish, yellowfin tuna, 180#, Golden Gate Banks, off Cabo San Lucas.
Moving to Bali in Sept. when the US collapses. Bringing one of my custom guns I make.

with a reel ofcourse more challenge to get these fish but you should bring a lot of shafts for spare .
doggies are stay in shallow water or mid
your line would easy to get tangle on coral

i didnt want to shoot it................... it weight about 20 kg by estimate
coz we saw thousand of it from 50 kg to 80 kg plus.
we get confused and greed to pick the largest one.
but still we get 3 fish up to 47 kg to 63 kg
you should come visit us bro.......we ll guide you to the amazing spot for doggie
100% you ll ignore the doggie under 40 kg
91 kg world record doggie was taken in this spot .........fingercross stttttttt!
