@TiconderogaX This test is not bad , but you cannot compare with that of the Mercedes class ml, (I recommend to you to see it) since what a crashtest measures is that lel cockpit remains intact
@stephenleenorman Actually, this isn't a ford, its a chevy, on a serious note thats a 45 MPH collision, because even small cars can come out of a 20ish MPH collision in pretty stable shape, this is a collision at the average street speed showing how well a vehicle is going to absorb all those forces and save your life regardless of the vehicles condition
@83ls No, there are things you can do to get up to atleast 25mpg on the highway I have a 2009 chevy v8 and had a chip installed and had it dyno tuned and I get 24mpg on the highway.
Bear in mind that this is equivalent to a head on collision with an equal weight vehicle. So even though, say, the Malibu appears to do better, this truck vs the Malibu the truck would fare much better purely due to weight.
@83ls My 02 silverado gets 22 highway. Only mods are cold air intake K&N and flowmaster exhaust dumped at the axel. just a few simple mods helped out add 4 on the highway. City is only 15 to 16 though.
@83ls my 4.6L v8 in my 98 f150 gets 23 MPG on the highway if i keep her under 55 mph..better gas mileage then my last car....on the highway that is....lol
@83ls my 1989 chevy c1500 gets 15-18 mpg on the highway in california however in utah on 85 octane gas I got 25 mpg highway going up the i-15 so you're an idiot. it has a 350 5.7 L engine.
@1999z71silverado f150 just plain sucks. I hate it to death. Worst pickup trucks ever from my experience. The differentials in those are just shithouse. The transmission is made in china and the plastic interior creaks and makes noise especially on hot days. Fucking garbage. The electrics would fail on corrugated roads and bumpy roads. I thought I was being chased by a ufo that was turning off all the electrics. fucking shitbox truck. God damn i hated that time wasting piece of shit.
@83ls No, not really. If you put a CAI and a cat-back exhaust and drive on the highway a lot then your probably going to see the mpg in the low 20's. Especially the new silverados with the fuel management.
@zaw1112 Reliable? When I lived in the USA, I had one of those. I sold it for another one because I thought my one had some gremlins from previous owners. Even the second one had issues that pissed me off. So I bought a toyota tundra and so far no problems at all. I'm paranoid about that though.
@LOLDISNEYLAND Well, it depends man, I bought the truck from new and never had a problem, of course, with the proper maintenance. But now I sold it two weeks ago and I'm in the waiting list for a 2011 silverado z71!
@83ls i own a 05 silverado 5.3 v8 i have a K&N cold air intake and flowmaster 50 series dual exhaust and im gettin around 22 highway. its prob cause the combo lol
well if your father were to crash his truck into a wall on an offset at 40mph then he's screwed however if he hits a camry he'll be fine. Crash tests have made vehicles alot safer although they don't always accurately represent real life events despite the deformable barrier that the car/truck hits there is still a wall on the other side and vehicles are more likely to crash into other vehicles.
@83ls my 85 chevy K10 long wheel base with a 6.2L diesel gets over 22mpgs with 31s and straight pipes with no mods and well over 300 thousand miles, my daily driver back and forth to college (20 miles one way). My 04 chevy 4.3L single cab gets about 21 with out footing it but gets about 16 with a lead foot, has K&N cold air, Hypertech tuner, Bosch Iridium Platinum plugs, 40 series flowmaster, royal purple tranny fluid, throttle body spacer and 104 thousand hard miles
@83ls my v8 6.6L crew cab dually gets 21 going 70 on the highway. My dad got 22.8mpg in his mega cab 5.7l hemi v8 on his way to wyoming. there was a tail wind
When they are going to stop puting bodys on a chasis and start making monococks like any other sensible company outside of colonial states then it mught not seperate the body from the chasis on a crash test like this and kill the driver and the dog.Even the Beer might make it.
@83ls How much money are you willing to bet on that?
6.2L GM diesel gets 20city/24hwy
Cummins 4BT averages 25mpg
5.7L small block pickups with low rear gear ratios routinely get 20+(mine gets 22)
And thats just with the crap auto makers with give you!
I built a suburban for a customer with a turbo charged Detroit Diesel 2-71 that gets 48mpg and a pick up with a John Deere 4045H that get 28mpg and will tow 30,000#s
You don't to give up size and power or drive a toy car to save fuel.
You idiots. Any vehicle you drive will crumple like a tin can, old or new, truck or car, even if a vehicle that was absolutely indestructible existed, the force of the impact would injure or kill you, sure some vehicles absorb it better than others, but stupid people are the main cause of crashes, and we have plenty of them at the moment as i can see.
@megadaniel25 I agree with the Honda, but I have a V8 Chevy (old school Carburated) Wouldn't get rid of, a 22re Toyota that gets 27 mpg in a reliable 1993 truck pushing on 200 k miles, I have driven Dodges, and if it wasn't for Cummins, Dodge wouldn't build a truck anymore. Ford is just the wildcard in this case, not my Fav, but deff not bad.
Just a thought, but did anybody ever consider that theirs two versions of a gallon. The imperial gallon(american) and the non-american gallon, which is what Canada uses. For example canadain magazines rate the ford expedtion 24 mpg hwy.But US sources will say 18 mpg. Why,becuase the Canadian gallon is bigger then the amircan gallon. In canada v6 mustangs get 44 mpg.In the states it gets 31 mpg
@83ls the silverados get way better than that ive known of a 4x4 getting 23 and a 2 wheel drive as high as 28 ive got a 5.9 durango 4x4 that will get 25 all day long and i will have it at 30 before i finish ,ive saw a 1 ton 4x4 diesel getting 26 mpg ive saw a show on a chevy tahoe getting 50 mpg! i ve read a article on a 89 mustang that turn a 11 sec 1/4 mile getting 80 mpg!!! you are VERY lost or you just accept that your gas mileage has to be that low
I actually have a friend who has an 05 sierra with the 4.8 v8 and he gets about 22 to 23 on the highway driving lightly. they can get over 20 just not very often.
but I will also mention that unlike the 97-03 Ford F150, the Silverado's cab doesn't really crumple up.. despite its "marginal" overall rating, no injuries were found on the dummy.. so if you hit another half-ton truck you should still be able to walk away fine, even though your truck is totaled.
I will remind everyone that the "barrier test" only simulates hitting head-on another vehicle of similar weight. So essentially, this is like colliding with another Silverado.. if the other object was a car or smaller vehicle, the Silverado would obviously have the advantage. Also difference in bumper height between two vehicles in a collision, and other factors, etc. can affect the validity of these crash test results.
Bottom line: these results are not always what you would expect
@firebirdcamaro1220 of course it does and it is gutless. i've driven an 02 ram with the 3.7 v6 and it seemed underpowered as well. put any weight in em and dont get goin very good. my expierence with em anyways.
my work truck is a 6cyl silverado the motor in a fullsize truck is a joke. its so freaking slow. 8cyl or bigger in a fullsize truck. luckily its not my personal vehicle. decent solid truck otherwise.
@hondacrxd16a6 my daily driver and work vehicle both is a 6cyl Dodge Ram and I think it has plenty of power, but then again, mine is a 6 Speed Manual Trans, the Chevy you drive at work is probably an automatic, right?
@hondacrxd16a6 my dailt driver/work truck is a V6 ext-cab Silverado don't know what GM was thinking putting a V6 engine in s vehicle of this size. Its underpowered and gutless at times{when something is in the bed}but it gets the job done, is better then a 4 banger Ranger I use to have, reliable and gets pretty good MPG{considering its size} I'll probably get the small V8 next time.
who cares im not talkin bout toyota!chevys crash test sucks pretty bad and its cute that your trying to defend chevy but if i were you i would look for a new company
This truck looks bankrupt, just like GM after this accident. Ford trucks have FEWER warranty claims than Chevy. Because Ford builds a better, more dependable product. Chevy can Eat My Acrid, Foul DIARRHEA straight from my Rectum. :-)
@waterfordjim Ooh!!! What an astute, mature and intellectual comment you've posted. I'm sure your Father, if you know who he is, would be proud. You "claim" to be 43 years old...how old are you mentally?
sorry i am from germany, so your jetta is 10 times better than a silverado or a nitro i think, sorry i didnt understood it ;) sorry for the bad words :)
@baujahr90er Why A Jetta Only Old People Drive Those Cars Cause They Get Like 100 mpg what about a z06 corvette 427 cubic inch engine gets like 8mpg but has over 500 hp thats like 400 more than the jetta.
You'd be amazed at what these LS series V8's get with a 6 speed. They're rated at 17/26 by the EPA, And some owners DO get 30MPG on the highway if driven with restraint.
Just because it has a "big" V8, does NOT mean it gets shitty fuel mileage.
How can you drive a corvette with restraint. driving a corvette with restraint is like asking a starving man not to eat a plate of food placed right in front of him. it's nearly impossible.
@RemingtonArms Yeah, a Z06 gets great mileage considering it's amazing performance. And it has a 7 liter V8! This has a lot to do with the fact that it only weights 3200lbs or so.
sorry but this crashtest was katastrophicly bad, this is just a big piece of shit, the silverade, and please amis start to make better looking cars, only the corvette, and the new charger and challenger are looking good, maybe some more, but dodge nitro or so, whos gonna buy such a ugly car, its not more expensive to make a better looking car or is it
There are many crappy American products that were well taken care of that still fell apart. And many Japanese products that were abused and never fell apart. Warranty numbers don't lie, only people in denial lie.
The same could be said about Toyota with there issues with frame rot, faulty transmissions, and their recent issues with gas pedals, also Mitsubishi's faulty gas lines and issues with crank walk. And the American cars with 600K+ miles on them, and all the pre 80's American cars still on the road. There are great and sucky vehicles from ALL sides.
Toyota Tundra wipes it's ass on American trucks. American cars can't compete anymore because of people like you in denial who kept buying them when you should have turned your back on them so they would have improved long ago.
At least it did better than the F-150.

RemingtonArms 1 year ago
@RemingtonArms I have a 99 Trans Am and get 29.5 highway, corvettes get like 32 highway.
Sisters dually gets 25 highway but most autos get around 22

@firebirdcamaro1220 of course it does and it is gutless. i've driven an 02 ram with the 3.7 v6 and it seemed underpowered as well. put any weight in em and dont get goin very good. my expierence with em anyways.
hondacrxd16a6 1 year ago
my work truck is a 6cyl silverado the motor in a fullsize truck is a joke. its so freaking slow. 8cyl or bigger in a fullsize truck. luckily its not my personal vehicle. decent solid truck otherwise.
hondacrxd16a6 1 year ago
@hondacrxd16a6 my daily driver and work vehicle both is a 6cyl Dodge Ram and I think it has plenty of power, but then again, mine is a 6 Speed Manual Trans, the Chevy you drive at work is probably an automatic, right?
FirebirdCamaro1220 1 year ago
@hondacrxd16a6 my dailt driver/work truck is a V6 ext-cab Silverado don't know what GM was thinking putting a V6 engine in s vehicle of this size. Its underpowered and gutless at times{when something is in the bed}but it gets the job done, is better then a 4 banger Ranger I use to have, reliable and gets pretty good MPG{considering its size} I'll probably get the small V8 next time.

Your an idiot. This isn't that bad compared to plenty of late 90s/early 00 toyota crash tests.
rudolphna54 2 years ago
who cares im not talkin bout toyota!chevys crash test sucks pretty bad and its cute that your trying to defend chevy but if i were you i would look for a new company
hansen71199 1 year ago
This truck looks bankrupt, just like GM after this accident. Ford trucks have FEWER warranty claims than Chevy. Because Ford builds a better, more dependable product. Chevy can Eat My Acrid, Foul DIARRHEA straight from my Rectum. :-)

@waterfordjim Ooh!!! What an astute, mature and intellectual comment you've posted. I'm sure your Father, if you know who he is, would be proud. You "claim" to be 43 years old...how old are you mentally?

baujahr90er 2 years ago
@baujahr90er Why A Jetta Only Old People Drive Those Cars Cause They Get Like 100 mpg what about a z06 corvette 427 cubic inch engine gets like 8mpg but has over 500 hp thats like 400 more than the jetta.
eDGARfROM432 2 years ago
C6 Z06's get around 18 city and ~30 MPG on the highway. They're not that consuming.
RemingtonArms 2 years ago
They Do get better than 8 mpg but they dont get that good
eDGARfROM432 2 years ago
You'd be amazed at what these LS series V8's get with a 6 speed. They're rated at 17/26 by the EPA, And some owners DO get 30MPG on the highway if driven with restraint.
Just because it has a "big" V8, does NOT mean it gets shitty fuel mileage.
RemingtonArms 2 years ago
@RemingtonArms yeah i guess u are right manual tranny get better but auto dont they get a little worse
eDGARfROM432 2 years ago
Auto isn't that much worse, 28mpg hwy is easily achievable with the 4l60e (Camaro/TransAm/Vette/GTO)
Where did you get 8mpg from? Some sort of racing application or an engine in need of a new top-end?
drz400e332 2 years ago
@RemingtonArms
How can you drive a corvette with restraint. driving a corvette with restraint is like asking a starving man not to eat a plate of food placed right in front of him. it's nearly impossible.
atgskater14 1 year ago
@eDGARfROM432 i have a close friend who has a c5 with intake and an exhaust and he is getting 31 average
n9athan 1 year ago
@RemingtonArms Yeah, a Z06 gets great mileage considering it's amazing performance. And it has a 7 liter V8! This has a lot to do with the fact that it only weights 3200lbs or so.

bpack89 2 years ago
its not about the quality of a specific make of a truck. it's more about the owner and how the truck is treated and whatever make you prefer.
xxmetalingusxx 2 years ago
There are many crappy American products that were well taken care of that still fell apart. And many Japanese products that were abused and never fell apart. Warranty numbers don't lie, only people in denial lie.
myphonyaccount 2 years ago
The same could be said about Toyota with there issues with frame rot, faulty transmissions, and their recent issues with gas pedals, also Mitsubishi's faulty gas lines and issues with crank walk. And the American cars with 600K+ miles on them, and all the pre 80's American cars still on the road. There are great and sucky vehicles from ALL sides.
Don't be biased.
RemingtonArms 2 years ago
I'm not biased. Buy American types who insult the competition are.

Dodge>ford,gm
MPLSTORM 2 years ago 4
Toyota Tundra wipes it's ass on American trucks. American cars can't compete anymore because of people like you in denial who kept buying them when you should have turned your back on them so they would have improved long ago.
