This concert was shown on tv many years ago. i video taped it but it got worn out as whenever i had mates round for a drink it was requested. Nice to see it again great band and annabella at the front topped it off. You dont have to love the band but you must appreciate the part they played in the music scene of the day. If you cant do that then stagnate with the x factor.
How brilliant is it to put a Duane Eddy guitar sound, a funk bassist and an Afro-Cuban drum style together and have it all work perfectly? I think they were extremely underrated but unfortunately only known for 'I Want Candy'.
WOW! Cant' believe I found this clip - didn't think we had video in those days! I was there on the hill - didn't realise the iconic nature of some of the bands we were watching at the time of course. Great gigs Larks in the Park - some great bands for free! I think I remember seeing Pete Burns in the audience at this one too. Anyone out there at these gigs? Remember seeing Big Country & Echo & the Bunnymen too?
This stuff is great! Too bad there isn't a diffinitve live album / DVD with great sound quality! The 80s in their prime were awesome, because they took the rawness and CREATIVITY of 60s and bypassed the guitar rock of the 70s. You look at the 80s and you have Garage, Punk, New Wave, Reggae, synth pop, Ska, Rockabilly, folk influences all taken up a notch. And all singers sounded different. just look at US festival 1983 the diversity of bands and styles esp. the punk and new wave days!!
& btw you didn't read what I wrote after that I retracted the whole statement because I agree with you even though you forgot to mention mother love bone or soundgarden, and for the record green day SUCKS ASS go listen to the groups they imitate the most stiff little fingers & the greatest band to ever walk the face of this earth The Clash
@djuri0612 yeah green day after their first couple albums started being really terrible I admit. I didn't mean to come off as a douche. Although, I'd like to respectfully disagree with you about the clash. I like them but I'd say that Led Zeppelin was the greatest band to ever walk the face of the earth lol.
Hey james FUCK YOU TOO you fucking douche bag you WOULD like all those lame bands I bet the first nirvana album you bought was nevermind and you couldn't believe how BRILLIANT it was HA, HA- you LOSER go watch mtv
Ask a 40 y.o. in 1980 what the best era for music ever was or ever will be, he would have said the 60's, and he could have proved it. Ask a 40 y.o. in the 90's the same question, he would have said the 70's and could have proved it. Ask a 40 y.o. today and you'll hear that grunge and hip-hop changed the whole game and he can prove it.
Get my point? It's the same with cartoons, video games, you name it. We aren't hearing the music or seeing the visuals, we are remembering our YOUTH.
How underrated is this band?! Fucking brilliant stuff man. I can't believe I've turned into one of those old farts who thinks the music of his generation is the best and will never be outdone. BUT AM I FUCKING WRONG? Didn't the 80's children give birth to garage, New Wave, house, hip hop, goth, techno, synth pop, chill, etc. What has the 90's produced? Gangsta Rap? Grunge? 2000's ummm... I dunno, coldplay? hip hop is a joke at this point. Oh god listen to the old man toot his own horn ha ha!
@djuri0612 um okay. you're just being pretentious. fuck you. The 90's has produced some quality music. nirvana, pearl jam, green day, chili peppers. you're just being really elitist.
@djuri0612 Look, I'm not downplaying the 80's because I appreciate the music as much as you do. If I didn't i wouldn't be watching this video would I? I'm not one of those douche-bags that goes on videos to talk crap about a band, that's just ironic. The only thing I'm saying is that every generation has music to be appreciated. I'm sure each generation thought that their music was the best and had facts to try to prove it.
@djuri0612 - RHCP actually gives a respectful shout-out to Bow Wow Wow - "Swimming in the sound of Bow Wow Wow" in the Red Hot Chili Peppers song "Suck My Kiss"...
Me too. I should have married her when I had the chance...well I knew someone who knew the bassplayer and I'm sure if she had in fact met me... My mate said Matthew (RIP) was a stroppy little git. Could play though.
You chump. If only I had known someone who knew the bass player then I would never have let that girl go. Bet you feel such a chump chop now. Imagine eh? You and Lwin and your cute kids.........
Realistically, though, and having thought about this a lot, Annabella being a musician would most probably have just used me for a couple of days of unbridled orgiastic excess and then moved on.
I've got to say this was one of the best gigs I ever went to. Even though I was trippin at the time. Bow Wow Wow weren't that well known at the time - it was a free gig so probably most of the crowd were comatose because they didn't know what they were getting. I was just hypnotized by Annabella's every movement and the amazing stereo sound and lights. Magic! The other highlight was hearing Grandmaster Flash with The Message echoing around the park, probably for the first time. More Magic!
You're so lucky to have seen them! I too was completely mesmerised by Annabella. My god I was like 14 or 15 and she was GORGEOUS and always naked and rumored to be younger than me... lol the band was just as fucking great too I had pictures of her everywhere and I used to play that WORK! single over and over and over
Too bad Matt Ashman is no longer with us. I've never seen any footage of them live, and I have to say they were consistently great live- the musicians were well tightened and Annabella just got better as they went-- Brings back so many memoories -Love them!!
Another band from the soundtrack of my life. They were around from when I was in 8th grade or so until junior year in HS but found out about them summer between 9th and 10th grade and loved them. Met her once.
