  • I thought it sounded like Standing Up In A Hammock...

  • almost nobody swings with matched grip ..... yes this guy plays pretty well but his snare sounds really heavy handed .... there are cats that do swing with matched grip but they are few and far between

  • @sweetfly66: Absolutely right sweetfly. But in Joe's case I think the punctuation on the snare works rather nicely. Not typical, but it works.

  • @AFTERSHOCKCEX .... bill stewart is an example of a matched grip cat that can swing ... gregg bissonnette can swing with matched grip .... i really cant think of too many others

  • Hey, I recognize that song! That's "Government Approved Jaunty Theme No. 7" !!

    Io sono felice!!

  • @puujisan: Are you serious? I tried Googling it and couldn't find that name/

  • @AFTERSHOCKCEX Search for "Government Approved Jaunty Themes" and you will find all of them.

  • @AFTERSHOCKCEX : The various government approved "Jaunty Themes" were actually a series of songs used subliminally by the Kraft company in their commercials around the time of the JFK assassination, Operation Northwoods, and the Bay of Tonkin Incident to covertly promote military action against Cuba and Vietnam specifically for the purpose of the Industrial Military Complex's economic advancement. Quite frankly, it kind of scares me that Joe knows #7, the extended 'OBEY' version...

  • @AFTERSHOCKCEX : Notice how Joe is signalling his Kraft Illuminati contacts at the clinic without blowing his cover! At 0:06 he is reading his secret instructions from his chart, then at 0:23 sends out a secret Morse code signalling he has the "stuff". Then, at 0:34 he signals his contacts to "see" him afterwards. Then, at 0:46 he starts craning his neck forward like a cat licking its paw, clearly bragging to his fellow undercover agents that he got some 'pussy' last night...

  • sweetfly66, that notion is becoming obsolete more and more. this guy swings well, and there are many more out there.

  • @diegus012 ... You may be right , and I agree that you see more and more cats using matched grip for jazz playing . All I am saying is that when I play jazz it feels more swingy and jazzy with traditional grip than it does with matched grip . This leads me to believe the grip does have some influence on how the grooves feel .

  • With very few exceptions , i really think you need to use traditional grip if you are truly going to swing ....i dont know why this is , but I do know that there are very few people who can really swing with matched grip

I am not saying it is impossible to swing with matched grip , it isnt impossible ...i have seen people do it ... but it is rare

  • @sweetfly66 As long as you got good feel, why does it matter how you play? This guy swings hard, and there are thousands of other drummers who swing well and swing hard playing matched grip.

Traditional grip was actually meant for military marching drums. It was just adapted for the drum kit.

  • @drumminggod91 ... You are right about the history of trad grip . And I completely agree that as long as you have the right feel it doesnt matter what grip you use . The point I am making is that the grip DOES seem to matter in how the groove feels . I know for me personally when I play jazz it feels much more jazzy and swingy when I use traditional grip , also curiously enough , it swings more when i play heels down on the pedals . But for rock it is heels up and matched grip ..feels better

  • this is great every time I see it

  • WTG Joe!!

  • yeah baby ... very tight
