At 42 days that took a long time. If you were to block out all the light and use plant nutrients designed for hydroponics, and put an airstone in there, you could have roots like that in 7 days. Just look up DIY deep water culture systems on google. I would love to see a stop motion of that :) Plus the experience will teach you a lot.
